Yeah this is something I've feared for a while with the privating feature. It's very unfairly stacked against the GA creator.

I hope you reported the winner to jiggakills to have them kicked and banned from the group.
One of the requirements to remain a member is:
Respect the gifters (thank them if you win, and play if they ask you to in the GA description).

Can the moderator kick that person out so that it doesn't happen to anyone else. The private groups are supposed to be trustworthy and to avoid this crap.

But privating definitely made it a lot more easier though.

That's just argument for argument's sake, whoever wanted to abuse the system by 15 second hiding loops already did, and nobody panicked like the hysteria is about a slightly faster method. It just shows how the standard user has no idea of Steam's features - the features that cheaters had to know to cheat even before. Now that people see what is and was possible, it's like a peak behind a Lovecraftian veil, to see how little control we had at any point. Meanwhile nothing changed (except all the topics spelling out ways to cheat for all to see :D )

Security through obscurity is not exactly best practice.
Comment has been collapsed.
It never was. SG doesn't care about the private feature like it didn't care about the remove from account feature. The problem already existed and wasn't cared about, I see no reason to get my panties in a twist. Either it's a non-issue because of the clear lack of care from admin (I doubt that), or just shows how much they value giveaway creators.
Comment has been collapsed.
It's natural for people to only care about an issue when they affect them, even if it was clearly existed before. Similarly, things often are bad enough before it gets worse and gets press/public attention, that doesn't make the past non-existent.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, I am 100% sure people have been cheating like that on sg before. Like recently there was a guy who [REDACTED TO REMOVE ADVICES HOW TO CHEAT].
Maybe I am just upset for being scammed for first time. Or maybe I am just an ass who likes to calling out cheaters. Yeah, most likely the second thing.

Valve really complicated things with that "little" change, didn't they? I also wonder if there's anything that can be done on our end here, the ability to hide games from view completely screws with how this site works.
I hope you manage to find a solution.
Comment has been collapsed.
I mean the easiest solution would be instant perma ban of anyone caught doing it.
That should definitely curb most of the excess due to the punishment outweighing any benefit of trying to trick the system.

The winner of my last giveaway marked the key as recieve but when I check his profile, it does not show up in his steam games. Plus he has created his own giveaway of the same game he won.

It's not even worth any contribution 😠why even do this

I caught a level 8 user. She used 3 accounts and made a lot of invite only/WL GAs that only her accounts entered. So she don't got cv, only +1's for delivered games for her main account.
The 2 small ones entered nothing else.
She done it for years.....
So better not question for the gain that someone have from doing XYZ.
It's sad but on sg are the cheaters the majority, not the minority.

When the fee makes more sense than human actions xD
Nothing new (you could do this and prior to the new feature). SG can do nothing about it unless they bring on more stuff and a couple different coders (yeah..... it's noooot happening). No, like you couldn't before.
Just hope you won't land on the worst of the worst shrugs
I don't ga "gold" but all my ga's are public (despite the advice of some good friends) because I don't believe we should fck everyone for a few (ok many) bad apples. Yes, there are times you wanna punch the screen^^ But usually, it's ok :) You made someone happy.. (even if it's the master of bot that wants trading cards - it's a huge and totally off-topic convo so I won't go into details or more examples)
BUT having this being done in a group........... Meh.................
You can't totally avoid shit (like in real life), but just because you stepped on a few, it doesn't mean you won't go for a walk again.. All you can do is try to be more careful without becoming paranoid. Enjoy the ride!
PS. It's one of the few times that I have nooo idea why I commented at all xD Probably because I liked the fee and then felt I should say and something relevant xD
Edit: Now that you fixed the link, I sound like crazy :P Tehehehe

Yeah but they gave the received feedback and then took it back. Really decreases the chance of it being a mistake, doesn't it?
Though yeah the Wishlist thing is a good one. Nice litmus test.
Comment has been collapsed.
It really isn't.. Steam many times can't update properly when you get a game from a key. I have a big library and wl and many times there are things in my wl even though I own them.. Old steam bug and it's insanity to try remove them by hand..
Comment has been collapsed.
I've seen that bug though it did sort itself out for me after a day or two.
Comment has been collapsed.
The Wishlist test might stump the less experienced but it's not perfect. A game can still be wishlisted if it's removed from an account the old fashioned way.
Comment has been collapsed.
If the winner viewed the key and marked the game received, only to mark it as un-received later, it might be a case of "misuse of giveaway feedback" that leads to a permanent suspension. You might want to create a ticket if it has been more than 1 week.
Comment has been collapsed.
Thank you, will make ticket when it will be set to unrecieved, in that time I should have answer from steam support of key activation time. These are actually a good news people can't manipulate feedback and priviting games for personal revenges, but I assume prooving part is the worst.
Comment has been collapsed.
What an headscratcher. Gotta start taking screenshots of every step of the delivery as proof from now on.
This reminded me of an unrelated story, one time I won a giveaway, but was blacklisted before I could even thank the raffler. I added him on Steam to thank him there and know if I did anything wrong, but it turned out he would just BL every winner by default. I was removed from the BL after that interaction.

We had exactly this behavior in U7 group some weeks ago. One that activated his wins , set the games as received, then unticked received (to get more games than the 8 limit in pur group)
Another played with the sync function (+"forgot to mark as receieved' some games to obtain the same result)
People are mostly nice here, but this kind of behavior really tires me when it happens.
Comment has been collapsed.
Have you already tried to report your case via a ticket?
I would have tried that, let's see what comes out of it.
If you can't do anything, you probably have no choice but to keep him on the blacklist.
Btw for what reason did you actually put me on the list?
Comment has been collapsed.
I am curious how does steamgifts site fight users who removes games they won from their account.
They don't.
If you don't present them the bad guy with a 100% evidence (which is nearly impossible), nothing happens.
Clear lack of care from cg as admin.
And it shows how much he value giveaway creators because he don't wrote one sentence to the multiple threads about the new "private feature" or the old possibility to do the same.
And let's be direct, nothing will change in the next years, if the site still exist so long, if the owner will be the only admin.
Ps.: You have a good bunch of bad apples in the pillars group because a lot fake their ratio with overpriced crap game and games that are in the wrong category (full value instead of free/bundled). A lot of them are very easy to spot, if someone care....

I think since around 2 years, everytime i done public GAs, about deleting my sg account. Because of all the cheaters that i still see on level 5 and higher, after around 1,5k that are blacklisted or blacklisted me.
But never thought about deleting my steam account because steam don't stress me, don't force me to do a lot of extra work and not, more or less, spit in my face for doing (public) GAs.
Comment has been collapsed.
This also happened to me once. I blacklisted the winner and he changed the game from received to not received. I warned the winner that once activated, if not marked as received I'll open a ticket and he might face a suspension, since the game was in the library. Since that problem, I only blacklist people one week after, so they can't change the received mark. I suggest you do the same.
But now? How can you prove that he activated and then hid the game to SG? It is a BIG problem for SG and to my knowledge, no solution has been found.
At least whenever someone marks something as received, SG could do an auto sync behind the scenes.
Comment has been collapsed.
The website needs to get rid of "Received" and add "Received and SYNCEd" so that the moment they receive them then they force a sync. With this, it may stay in history where if some removes the win - it will say "previously won - game not located" then flag the user for mods to take action
It can work for hidden games , so after an auto force sync, it wont let the user to join another "Previously won - hidden library" and auto flag the user again for mods to take action
to be honest I thought this system was already in place but with same thread opening every day I understand it is not working.
Comment has been collapsed.
As far as I know, SG only syncs data from Steam. For this to work, SG needs to log user data for owned games as well. This would work for current users. However from a new user bot perspective, they can hide games until they barely fill the 100$ requirement and join the site afterwards. With current API, there is no way to prevent these kind of things.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, I am not really a big fan of private games either. I guess I need to start checking my winners.....What is the website to check the winner called again? SGtool something?

There are plenty of ways to scam, just like there are plenty of ways to be petty about BLs. For myself, I dislike leaving or receiving thanks, and won't join a group that requires it. A shame there isn't a No Thanks group.
While I don't retaliate against BLs, or scam, you really shouldn't be surprised when people do. Of course proving scamming, and getting it dealt with is a whole other thing. Good luck getting that to happen.

So, I am curious how does steamgifts site fight users who removes games they won from their account.
Yesterday my giveaway ended, game marked recieved, was in library of winner and I waited a while if he will bother say thank you. Haven't happend, so I blacklisted him.. now is giveaway feedback removed and ownership of game is hidden on steam, pretending I haven't sent it. What now? How does steamgifts solve that? Can we do giveaways without that happening again?
Here is giveaway fee for posting a thread.
Looks like there is no escape from Boyard, winner changed his mind again.
