nope. I looked it up.
As long as I'm in-country when I activate, the game will get activated to my account. If I leave the region, it'll lock up; I'll only be able to play while in the U.K.
But 3 months after activation, the region lock ends.

The game is activation lock only. You just need be in EMEA to activate.

Such a scam they pulled on you. Not even refund? WTF. Have you bought it with PayPal?

Not from the UK, so I won't be joining - but one thing for you that might be worth considering (seeing as you seem to be quite the Civ fan, and probably wanting the copy you give out to go to a good home) - how about having a requirement that the entrants should have played Civ V if they own it? My thoughts? Someone who have Civ V in their library and never bothered to play it probably won't be that interested in Civ VI either. You can easily check someone's Civ V progress by looking at the achievements:
The two of us as examples:
http://steamcommunity.com/id/calculatebitch/stats/CivV/?tab=achievements
http://steamcommunity.com/id/tso184/stats/CivV/?tab=achievements
If someone has a decent amount of achievements gained before today (since it's easy to gain lots of achievements by using hacks and inflate the achievement percentage - they will be registered on today's date if someone were to do it though), chances are they will play and enjoy Civ VI as well.

Achievements don't unlock while playing online either, somebody could easily have lots of hours of gameplay with friends and 0 achievements. Personally, unlike earlier Civs, I don't find single player games of Civ V that interesting, and only play multiplayer.

I'm in the UK. At least, until Scotland gets independence and becomes something less...united. Then I'll be some sort of Free Scotsman, I guess.
But chances are, that wont happen until at least the weekend.

Sorry to hear that but they refused because GOG key comes up as revealed. There was a recent incident with CIV dev/publisher with gamesrepublic site where there was a price glitch and gamerepublic sold civ deluxe edition for $15? And even after they announced this was a mistake and they will revoke the keys, offering users a free copy of anomaly and coupons but dev/publisher refused to revoke keys, hence gamesrepublic ended up paying the loses and they recently announced they are closing their website in january.
So i assume GOG isn't taking a refund because it was revealed and they cannot guarantee it is used. or any assistance from dev to revoke if needed.

Almost all of who purchased activated it immediately, or after they heard of the announcement from games republic. Sure the site gone outta business for the incident but the dev could have done something to prevent that, because they could afford to. But they rather wanted to save their ass, and games republic paid the price. It's not a rubbish site, they have offered many good deals before, for some good titles they were the ones that had the lowest price among all .

I joined games republic first week it was live and bought zero games as their prices were never the lowest compared to bundles / grey key sellers. If you dont use those avenues then sure. Yes 2k probably messed them but they didnt want the goodwill hit either.

Sorry about what happened to you, mate.
Anyway, I am in the UK, not planning to leave in the next few centuries, and I'd love a chance to win that game!

hi, so i preordered civilization 6 deluxe from the dodgy site green man gaming, and unbeknownst to me id left modify headers on to watch a region locked video. now at no point in the purchase did the dreadful website green man gaming let me know i was purchasing a region locked game, and after if found this out, the rude customer service staff told me (after about a week to 10 days from submitting my support ticket) that they would not replace the key or refund my purchase.
now whilst my main goal here is ensuring that no one get scammed by the awful website green man gaming, im also left with some cd keys that i cannot activate. they are region locked to the uk. now if you would like the chance to enter this giveaway, you have to be a resident of the uk, and want civ 6. thats it. reply here, and if enough people join the list i will set up a whitelist or somesuch and you will have a chance to win the game
BUT YOU HAVE TO BE FROM THE UK, THATS THE RULE.
