I won a giveaway yesterday and it was indeed Civ5, and after a short download I started up the game. My first impressions were that the game is hard to understand and learn, for someone like myself who doesn't play a lot of strategy. However after completing the tutorial and starting my first game, I begun enjoying the game so much and I have to admit it's truly fantastic, there are no boundaries and the fun is constant. I don't doubt I will be spending a lot of time playing this game, what do you guys think?

I like IV better, really but, yeah, any Civ game is destined to be awesome to anyone that tries one, and can get over the comparatively steep learning curve. The first one was fantastic at it's time, it spawned an entirely different way to think about video games back then, imho.

Game is really interesting, and really complete but... too much. I played the tutorial, but the game is sooo freaking long and i don't even have any idea of what to do nor how to do it u_u. Saddest thing is that you can't save (i looked everywhere and didn't find it), making my 2hrs of play pointless ><

So you played for 2 hours without knowing what you were doing and then you couldn't save even if you have a save buton in the menu?!(at least I remember there is one right in front of you when you open the menu). And yes...the game's objective is to win, you can decide roughly how much you want the game to take and I hope you didn't expect a corridor-strait objective game, it's more like a sandbox game where you try to win.

What I meant is that the menu isn't really intuitive, I basically just did what the AI told me to do. If I wanted to get some info or do something I had to search again and again about how to do it, sometimes without success.
And I'm affirmative, I had no option to save the game (first thing I did was ESC, but no save option), but that may be due to the fact I was in the tutorial and not in the regular mode.

Civ 5 is the Civ:Rev of PC

Simple, not as complex as 3, 4, etc.

I like the game, but I liked Civ IV more. The combat in Civ V makes me want to throw my controller across the room.

Civ 5 multiplayer does have problems but it is still fun with a group of people to play with so far the max people/friends I have played with was 6

I really liked 4 much more than 5. That said people say the expansions are awesome and I have neither(have a bunch of the other DLC though).

Probably the problem really is that Paradox Development Studio have spoiled me - if I'm in the mood for grand strategy I'm likely heading for Europa Universalis III or getting back to work on making a triple crowned(Bohemia, Italy, Sicily) independent medieval state in Crusader Kings II.

Great game. Fun to play, maybe it can be a little overwhelming at first, but that changes soon enough, and then you get right down to the dirty business of taking over the world... and nuking Ghandi ofc.

My problem is my laptop CAN run it. I was sitting in lecture one day "well I will just do a few turns." Well three hours later and the next class coming in I was like "shit."

I think I need to get the DLC during the next Steam Sale. I got this game from per-ordering Xcom Enemy Unknown and it sat in my library for a long time. With the release of Steam Trading Cards I took the opportunity to play games I haven't touched in my steam library and I am finding all sorts of gems. See I am not one of those people that just idles a game in the background while I wait for card drops. I actually play the game and enjoy my time getting cards. Thank you Steam for giving me a new way to dust off my library.

Has anybody here played the older games? If so, how do you like V? I've only played Civilization II and Call to Power. Civ V does look pretty intriguing.

I played a ton of 3 and 4 back in high school, and I love 5 as well. Got almost 200 hours in 5 now. The combat is a lot more fun without unit stacking, imo.

I always found the turns of the Civ games were a bit strange. 300 years to make a unit? SURE.

It did but the game required an update, when I let Steam update the game it crashed and wouldn't start back up. Recently I was forced to reinstall Steam completely removing all the games, my issue still persists. So Steam remains out of use until support gets their heads out of their asses.
