i feel like i should just quit, after like an hour of searching i found a random wall that you had to blow up with a pipebomb... made no sense, but i guess thats how old school games are. Im enjoying the game thus far but, taking this long just makes me want to give up. Anyone else have a durr moment like that especially on an old game?

Am i a noob?

Just keep going. The old style of the game may take some getting used to if you never played games like Doom/Quake before. But once you get into it, you find that the game is a blast and the levels are extremely well developed. Allen Blum was a genius with level design, which also shows in DNF but sadly not as much.

Actually games based on the build engine (Duke, Blood, Shadow Warrior) were famous for large levels where you can get lost easily. Quake 1 that came out not long after was a lot better in this regard.

Yes, you are a noob for not playing retro games.

If you are having trouble on the first couple of levels, prepare yourself to get lost and lost and lost!

Sounds like piss poor design to me. I guess reading up on a walkthrough should be in order.

Except there are branching paths and player choices, just not all in one level.

And you're using the wrong genre.

You're bad at this.

That level actually has branching paths, you can either go up or down.

This is why Duke Nukem 3D itself has a joke when you press on an inanimate object. "UNGH. Where is it?"

When you play them more you'll figure out what to look for, no worries, Cap'n.
