I tried and I was asked to pay a 20% monthly VAT on this donation. Explanation on their site: it's determined on account creation and never updated after that.
So I tried to delete this new account, only got an option to disable it permanently. New account with the same email is forbidden. And it is my pp email. Well, I guess I have to keep adblock unless there's a new solution that is europe-friendly...

?? I don't get what you mean.
By the way, paying VAT when buying something (goods, services) is understandable, but not on donation / charity.

I'm not getting into this since adam and Starwhite have already wasted spent several hours discussing this very important issue but I wouldn't necessarily call gifting money to a gambling website charity :D

Charity was about being generic, I agree it doesn't apply to SG patreon campaign, the relevant part was indeed "donation" in this case... I didn't read the whole thread, so I had no idea I was stepping into a hot subject :)

Everything is a hot subject here on SteamGifts or at least it can be if somebody spends enough time thinking about it :D

You can see it that way. From my side, it is a donation, dot. I'm not foolish enough to buy something that Adblock and Ghostery do for free, and I don't want the star (nothing else in the 3$ tier). To be crystal clear, the day I'll have the feeling SG is selling something will be the day I'll leave SG.

Gambling site? Is it really gambling if you're not risking anything (other than site-specific virtual "points")? Is sticking your business card in a jar at a Starbucks for a chance at a free coffee "gambling?"

Couple of things...
What happens if someone makes a script that offers the same cosmetic rewards as patreon offers?
I hope it gets over the inevitable initial hump of dividing the forums because it seems like a good idea.
I don't like the rewards in each tier so I will not be subbing right now. I think you need to offer much more content for $3-$5-$15, sub only section om forum, dev blog so i see how my monies being spent etc. However it sounds like thats never going to happen.
Can you "hide" the donator star tag if you wanted to donate and get everything other than the star?

yep - that is the first thing that bothered me - if we could afford it on top of the games purchasing, which sadly we cannot at the moment, I still would not want that star next to my name

You're welcome to write scripts for the same cosmetic rewards. However, the difference is that only users with the script would see the results.

Aww, no old school forum style quote under our comments? And no separate pic from steam profile/profile gif? The rewards are kinda dissapointing tbh.

Really nice update! Thank you CG.
I'd love to see more rewards for customization but so far what I've seen from peoples profiles are nice! Like Jennifer said a forum style quote etc would be awesome, but so far I approve!
Despite the initial hate towards the star, I think that will die down and won't be as divided. Just like the levels divide died a little after it was created.

And for anyone else who wants to block this ignorant crap, just add the following lines to your filters.

Blocking the star will also block the wishlist stars, use at own discretion.

It's very easy if one can bypass the few usual and inevitable trolls in this and other SG threads, who after the CV levels, blacklist and whitelist, group giveaways, high level giveaways, SGTools (giveaways), referrals, 10 cent bundled giveaways, scripts, flame threads and imaginary SG rules have found a new bone, Patron, to chew on.
Those that want to support Cg and SG can do so out of their own free will, it's 3, 7 or 15 bucks and 3 bucks is the price of a very nice coffee here. And at the very same time those that don't like it or don't want to be a Patron for any reason don't have to be a Patron because nobody is forcing them to be a Patron and get a few cosmetic only goodies.
Everyone on SG is free to choose\make a decision in his or her own time but clearly not everyone likes that SG users can choose for themselves on this matter. That's all! :O

If nothing else, maybe this will mark the end of years of "Steamgifts Premium" jokes...
Now you'd have to explain umm, ok, yes you can give money to the site, but it's just cosmetic, it doesn't improve your chances of winning giveaways. So it's just a joke. Ha ha.
Just hoping the future isn't lockboxes, subscriber-only giveaways, "random key" sales, etc. :)
Actually, aside from this one forum topic, it's hard to imagine anyone even finding the thing. I mean, all I do with those settings is sync my Steam account to make the fresh bundle stuff disappear. :) Pretty sure I'd never notice that "Patreon" link without already knowing it's in there somewhere...
It would be interesting to hear monthly updates if possible, i.e. to what extent the donations are helping to keep the lights on, but I guess it's too early to know...

it was already decided that beside ad-free all possible rewards gonna be purely cosmetic and no bonus functionalities or better functionalities will be offered as rewards. Getting more slots would mean getting better SG basic functionalities if you pay for them.

I've got to say though, I have to agree with the lack of rewards for the prices....I was always a fan(as I've said before) of adding much more to the patreon rather than just cosmetics. I think more features would be needed long term as the cosmetics are pretty minimal as well for the price you are paying.

You should add the $1 tier, and give just thanks and a little star

Awesome! Gonna subscribe as soon as I get my paycheck :)

it doesn't need to do anything imho. Patreon is not a kickstarter, it's not a fundraiser platform, it is platform when you can decide to chip-in and pay to creators of content you enjoy. So something like cg getting paid for the work he's doing ana all the time and funds he invested into creating and maintaining SG.

Hi SG,
I'm excited to be sharing our Patreon with everyone today! If you're unaware of Patreon, it's a platform for users ("Patrons") to support and subscribe to their favorite content creators and services. Our Patreon is arranged into three reward tiers, and it offers a number of fun rewards without giving anyone an unfair advantage towards entering or winning giveaways. The reward tiers are as follows:
Outdoor Cat ($3/mo)
House Cat ($7/mo)
Space Cat ($15/mo)
Our Patreon covers all of the specifics, including further details about the rewards and how they can be redeemed after subscribing.
https://www.patreon.com/steamgifts
You'll also notice the Patreon button added to the account page of our site. This is where you can redeem your rewards as explained above.

A big thanks to everyone, regardless of whether or not you decide to subscribe. It's been a lot of fun working on SteamGifts over the years. I hope to see the community continue to grow, and I'll keep doing my best to release new features and improvements for the years to come. Thanks!
