And that's a bad thing? Competition drives innovation.

The problem is that Android isn't a gaming platform and I don't think that there are more than 10 games available that support controllers.

So it's basically Onlive, but without the need for high speed internet, includes the capabilities of a mobile plattform, but without adding the phone capabilities?

One phrase: Jack of all trades, master of none.

It's not trying to be a phone. It's a gaming device and that's what its focus clearly is. How does removing features make it a jack of all trades? It's an android gaming device with the streaming feature. That's the only "new" thing I see here. Personally I'll have no real use for this and suspect it will suck but I don't think it will be because it's trying to do too much. The problem as I see it is that this device is attacking two different markets.

  1. Mobile/casual gamers - These gamers are the ones that will be playing your typical Android game. They won't be buying dedicated hardware. They also likely don't have a PC capable of playing AAA games.
  2. Mid/hardcore gamers - These gamers will buy dedicated hardware but probably have no interest in most Android games as anything more than a diversion. The device itself is too weak to handle real games. If this can't stream over a broadband connection the streaming feature is useless except for bathroom trips.

We've been able to do that since the Blackberry. Poker, anyone?

The Ouya should be able to do that PC game streaming as well with the Splashtop THD App. That seems more useful to me, being able to easily stream PC games to a HDTV rather than a handheld screen. I guess there could be a market for that too though.

Umm... It's got 1280x720p (16:9) aspect ratio.

Did you even read the article or are you just hating on something new because you fear change?

Am I getting this right? It's something to play at your house (at wi-fi router's range) but not at your computer. Do people really need something to connect to their computer while being at home?

Why do we need this? There aren't many Android games that support game controllers and there is already software that can stream things from a PC to phones and tablets (VNC, Splashtop, etc.).

BTW does that thing even has a touch-screen?

Maybe there is some soft already, but it isn't comfortable to play games on the phone.

And it doesn't have TS. Why do you even need this?

You could play any Android game when it has a touch-screen but without one you can only play games that support controllers.

"5” Retinal Display
SHIELD flips open to an integrated 5” 1280x720 HD multi-touch display. With 294 dpi and 921,600 pixels, SHIELD has the highest resolution and pixel density of any handheld gaming device. In addition, Tegra 4’s Direct Touch technology gives SHIELD touch response three times faster than other touch devices."

Looks like it has touch screen controls to me. o_O (Taken right from the article that I posted in the OP)

I fully agree with you on that, it looks really bulky and to me it looks like the screen doesn't fold back any further than 90° which would make holding it while playing incredibly uncomfortable for me.

Definitely. I also hope that p.c streaming at least goes a bit far, because what's the point of playing a p.c game on Project Shield when you can just go on the p.c itself?

Going outside, and just generally being not stuck in the chair where your PC happens to be.
OTOH, laptop. But this sounds a little more wieldy.
