do you like it?
I can see it now so it probably just a delay due to server overload.

I like that you can acquire points all year round, and I like that you can use those points to reward others.

My thoughts :D Especially the "Starry nights" one which is animated but barely got its animations mainly in the center and almost none on the sides.
I got myself the Oceanside one tho 'cause it's not too much movement in general and having those waving banners and the air vent on the side looks pretty nice. You can see it in action on my profile.

Does that mean that we can use a GIF as avatar now?

Emoticons and Backgrounds that were previously associated with trading cards can now be directly acquired by using Steam Points
I wonder how this will affect the market price for these items; and whether devs/publishers will be compensated for items purchased with points (like they are with market sales).

A centralized points system is smart thinking from their part, at least we won't have to wrestle with several seasonal currencies that might or might not carry over to the next seasonal sale, they can just have seasonal rewards instead.
But dammit, that shop page is a literal CPU killer, thanks to all those uselessly fancy animations... if it ever bother to load at all, that is.
Being able to buy emoticons and backgrounds you want instead of gambling with crafting is nice, though I find it odd that prices are fixed regardless of rarity, it literally kills the meaning of "rarity" if all items can be generated indefinitely for the same price. And even if they cannot be traded or sold, this will still deal a hard blow to the community market, since now you can effectively buy anything you want for free*.
Because who in their right mind would buy those pretty $20+ anime backgrounds, when you can just buy the game for $5 or so and get the background for free*?
* free = free with purchase, but I'm assuming you would buy stuff because you want it, with the points coming as a bonus, and not the other way around.
In that case, you can just check those $10 per level badges instead.

Since the sale started card price of certain games has already dropped by 20%, and gems are following accordingly, they're down by 15%. This is going to cause a huge market crash.
In a way, it might be for the best, since this rarity thing causes huge distortions, like the P4G rare background that sold for $50 on the first week. On the other hand, I'm afraid that will cause interest in card farming to dwindle, making foils harder to find and shooting their prices up.

I've been sitting on thousands of card drops because I don't like 'idling' my games, maybe it's time I work through some of them and sell the cards asap, at this point I've probably already lost hundreds of Steam wallet holding out and it's only going to go lower :(

i listed a few a while back after a lot of idling .
I now have £80 sitting in my steam wallet with more to come no-doubt
Saving it for cyberpunk ...probably but i'm a cheap-ass patient gamer so i dunno :)
Takes a bit of time to do it though (not counting the actual idling).
You can list them reasonably quick ,well ,quicker (with script help) but it's also going through all the confirmations that eats up time.
PS.:
It can bug out after a few hundred even though it appears to have listed the whole lot.
Probably due to doing so many at once.

It seems like cards prices are going back up again, as is usual, as interest in making badges increases with steam sale cards. But considering the initial dip I'm afraid of what will happen after the sale ends. Now might be the best moment to get those cards, look up ASF, it can idle cards while you're not playing.

Yeah, my cpu went 100% load to the point that mouse cursor and sound (if played in background) just froze for half a minute...

overall, it's a positive for me.
Don't really like flat design when the buttons blur with the background.
Steam points is a welcome addition. I don't feel like missing out now if I buy before the Major Sales (Lunar, Summer, Winter)
I see they've reverted back to purchase = point instead of wallet top-up
It's interesting they provided this alternative. I wonder if it's last minute addition or has been planned for quite a while.
Background $5 (500 points), Emoticon $1 (100 points). Finally, I can buy :weed: at a reasonable price.
"no plans to remove them at this time" 🤔😔🤔 hopefully never

TBH, I like it a lot. Neat, clean, easy to read Profile setting, and really modern.
Made my Gman GIF extra wide/buff but I'm sure the community will find a way around to fix the showcase thing later

Man, I just waw this and Im so glad I dont sell Steam backgrounds anymore because this will kill the price of many items.

I like the new profil and even the shop but: I'm happy that I got rid of my cards in the last week.
Emotes, Backgrounds, Gems and Cards are hidden reserves on steam. It's money that is on the plattform, that is out of steams reach.
With this move steam destroyed the worth of some inventories and users can't do a lot about it.
Sack of Gems dropped around 10% in just the last hour and it will go down even more.

In the past, steam did suggest that removing the market altogether might be an option to counter phishing and scamming. By reducing the overall worth of these digital items they might also reduce the amount of compromised trades and accounts.

So,
this will not be about the Sale but about the new Profil, the new Pointsystem and the new Itemshop.
The Profil got an update, you can now change colours and stuff
there is a pointsystem that will stay even after the sale. for each dollar you get 100 points
with these points you can buy different items (backgrounds etc) from games you own
items will not expire (except for the Golden Profile that you only get in the event)
you can't trade these items
cards will still be a thing and can be used to get badges and items
items from badged creation can still be sold, traded...
You can check the pointshop for a game with:
