So now the community market is dead for me. Prices for every item are now dictated by point shop so no item can be more expensive than in point shop. I'm kinda sad because I was able to earn quite a lot of money by crafting badges , but it might be for the better because it was literally gambling.

For me it shows my recently played games. Like 10% or less of my whole library.
I think, hope, that if I start a game it will show in the shop.

They're getting very close to it already.
There was a great community that built up on steam through the trading cards ,mostly died off now.
I made a lot of steam friends and got involved in steam in ways i wouldn't have otherwise. .
All they had to do was find a workable solution to the scammers.

Its interesting to me to hear how important they trading cards are to other people. They've never been a key part of my Steam experience. Do you use them as a revenue source, or is the collecting a draw in its own right?
Anyhow, I know Valve struck gold with the cards. But I wonder if they aren't trying to get out in front of the turn against gambling mechanics (loot boxes and etc.) in games. There's been more public scrutiny and even talk of regulation. Valve seems to have kept its head down and not come up too often in these discussions. But I'd speculate that they're planning for a world where this sort of thing is no longer acceptable.

Started off as an easy revenue source:)
But i used to spend so long on the forums i ended up as admin mod on a Steam group and also running giveaways for for another group checking entrants and handing out steam keys e.t.c. ,moderating chat and stuff.
But i also ended up buying a lot of games on the steam store as new games were always getting mentioned in the groups.
I made a huge amount of cool Steam friends as well + we used to give each other Steam games in chat.
So.. to sum up,
We all benefited ,had fun , received steam keys regularly ,built up a large list of good Steam groups / friends and a lot us were also buying games on the Steam store we probably would have missed otherwise.
It is /was what made Steam different but anyway i don't care so much any more ,the party stopped a while ago tbh.

Another mediocre steam sale unless you go for the hidden gem deals near or under the $5 mark. I only got 40something points and I realised I haven't spent much money on steam on recent years even though money is not an issue as it used to be the previous years.
So this Points Shop has a $10 worth of points every badge level, a $10 worth of points for some stickers, a $50 worth of points for the golden profile which lasts for 30 days??(wtf) and so on... I find it ridiculous because I think steam is rewarding the elites of its community that spend a lot of money on the platform with a new meta game of collecting points or are more popular than others and their reviews will reach more people hence more probable of getting awarded. New or lower level users are not favored.

Yeah that happened to me too when I bought the OST of something, it just annoys me that they literally got their money from me already for my funds, so it's not like they came from marketplace sales (which they take a cut off too, mind you) which may not have required me spending real money. Like, I can understand if you don't get points there. But every event they seem to get stingier with how to earn points. D:

I get points for using my wallet on games, yes. I'd rather have gotten points on the full sum I charged my wallet with though, since that is real money that went to steam already. During the Grand Prix, they eventually changed it so that wallet charging also gave points, I was hoping that'd be the case this time too but it seems unlikely.

Need some advice on what to get. I would like an avatar frame and also an animated background (I like the lava lamp one a lot). The sad part is that I also found a static background ezclusive to the coin shop, Portrait one. I'm planning to get Doom 64 and right now only have 2724 coins. Not sure if I would be able to get lava background, anime frame and the static background

this will not be about the Sale but about the new Profil, the new Pointsystem and the new Itemshop.
The Profil got an update, you can now change colours and stuff
there is a pointsystem that will stay even after the sale. for each dollar you get 100 points
with these points you can buy different items (backgrounds etc) from games you own
items will not expire (except for the Golden Profile that you only get in the event)
you can't trade these items
cards will still be a thing and can be used to get badges and items
items from badged creation can still be sold, traded...
