I don't smoke, but I bought a cheap cigar to roleplay (my group was an A-team replica). I had no idea how to keep that in my mouth, so I ended up chewing the bottom part, making it all wet and having it fall apart. If anyone ever suspected me to smoke, my complete inability to handle that thing would have been sufficient proof of the contrary. :)

as far as I know, "told by a friend" you have to wet it. once I heard that "and seen it" I regretted ever putting a cigar in my mouth

Yeah, you gotta cut it. Also many people put a toothpick on it so that they don't wet it.

I thought so, in fact that's what I know and what I told him but he seemed too confident in doing so that I stopped even thinking of ever smoking it again,,, just "ewww"

I didn't and I don't plan to. My father is addicted to smoking. His addiction is really light, but still he isn't capable of stopping smoking. Since I can see everyday how hard it is for smokers to struggle with their addiction - I don't want to try it.
Plus, it makes you stink. And it's not cool anymore. There are no reasons to try.

No, it isn't. Unless it's in a noir(-ish) movie, then it is.
But life isn't one, therefore it really isn't cool. Quite the opposite. And no, I haven't tried smoking anything (well, shisha 2 times a couple of years ago, but that's far from cigars/cigarettes) - too many of my friends have tried quitting smoking... multiple times. I learn from others' mistakes.

How's that? Please go ahead and complete the explanation. I'm curious.

Although Sixsmiths was a bit "harsh" about it. Cigars are pretty strange, I can tell you that they don't take as much a toll as cigarettes do to a person. If you truly do have a craving for Cigars at most I've seen people smoke 2 per day (usually it's 1) whereas cigarettes people can go through tons of packs per day. You don't really get the craving you would get for a cigarette as you would for a Cigar.
Cigars are kind of like ice-cream or eating at a restaurant, it's more of a luxury item that you'd think "Sweet, I'll take some", but you only take "some" and not overtake it. It's really quite hard to explain. Either way it's best if you don't do either Cigars or Cigarettes, some people don't really like the taste/feel of a Cigar anyways.

Oh, right. I completely misread cigars for cigarretes. Your explanation does make sense.

In movies. Smoking people might think they look cool smoking, but they really aren't. Smoking seems cool when you start, but then it becomes a nightmare. You can't live without it. Going outside during a damn cold winter just to smoke. It just makes you suffer.
Of course some people have strong will and smoke only on special occasions - good for them that they can do that. But it'd be even better if they didn't smoke at all.

The car I just bought smells like old smoke. Bunch of engine work recently done so it runs great and I got a good price on it, otherwise smoke is a deal killer. :I
On a completely unrelated side note: Does anyone know/recommend ways to get rid of smoke smell from a car?

The smoke is disgusting, it leaves a bad smell in your clothes, haven't heard anything good from them, so no, not even interested in trying it, and I hate the idea that my gf smokes when she's with her friends, there's nothing good about it, it's like cutting yourself when you're with your friends.

I'm sorry, but that's how I see it. It has no benefits, increases the risk of lots of types of cancer, stroke, heart attack; creates addiction, stinks... I could understand people that smoked some years ago, but nowadays when everybody knows the consequences... And I also love people who say "well, there are people who don't smoke that also get lung cancer".

I used to smoke regular sigarettes. I have also smoked cigars, and I cant say its anything special. It feels like a regular sigarette but the smoke feels much "heavier" and "dirty" kinda in comparison.
But when I play poker with friends, we kinda need to have cigars and whiskey, just to help set the mood.

It's amazing how many do not understand that you do not fully inhale smoke from cigars. I used to smoke (for many years) but gave it up (Yes it is hard to do!) due to understanding the health issues. However cigars are not like smoking, they are more like an inbetween once you realise it's about taste and smell.

Eh, I inhale cigars when I smoke em, doesn't bother me in the least. No choking fits, it just agrees with me I guess.

Came here to say the same thing. The cigar shouldn't be smoked the same way you smoke a cigarette.
I don't smoke in general, but I tried a cigar once or twice. It was rather nice.

It leaves you an horrible on and around you. If you want to be left alone that's a benefit I guess. LOL!

I'm not exactly answering your question, but I've found that cigars smell AWFUL. I get very annoyed by people smoking around me, but when someone smokes a cigar it's absolutely intolerable. So, yeah, don't do that around me unless you want me to shove it down your throat. Non-smoker, btw. :D

First, you need a good cigar. If it isn't good, it's crap, period. Safest is to go Cuban first.
Second, the goal is to taste and smell but not to inhale. Unless you want to cough your lungs out.
Third, it's a leisurely thing. Get friends, grab drinks, and sit down. You'll be in for a long haul.
Fourth, actually keeping cigars is a task in itself. You'll need to get and maintain a humidor if you plan to collect.
Fifth, there are actual techniques to both getting the most out of your cigar, how to keep the cigar burning properly, what cigars go best with which drinks, etc. You may need practice before you can properly appreciate it.
Sixth, you might feel sick after your first few cigars.
Seventh, a few cigars won't kill you. But of course if you overdo it you'll be shaving your lifespan. Smoke responsibly.
Lastly, every kind of cigar is different. Try to experiment and see what you prefer.
I don't smoke much, usually saving it for hot humid summer evenings on the deck with my old man. Love it.
