Games disappeared from my library a few times as well, but I never got any notification. Ofc I was too lazy to contact support, did it just once when Sniper Elite V2 disappeared, they removed it because the german keyseller who sold it to me sold uncut keys, which isn't allowed in germany, so they deactivated all of them (didn't even get a refund and I don't even live in germany..)

What annoys me the most is that Steam just deleted it without any notification or announcement. Is this even legal ?

Yes, steam owns the rights to all your games.

Point of order.
1.) It would be Valve, not steam. Steam is owned by Valve.
2.) Valve owns the rights to its own games, not the rights to other's dev's games.
3.) The have the legal right to delete every game from every user's account w/o prior notice. They can shut their doors right now and wouldnt have to refund a single cent. No wallet funds, no refunds of past purchases either tied to an account/library or in gifted form/inventory.

Valve and Steam are interchangeable if you ignore the technicality that steam is a program made by Valve. And I meant the third thing you wrote. They own the right to distribute/remove any game they choose without the user's/dev's consent.

That is ridiculous. I don't know why everbody loves steam/valve so much if this is the case.

Don't blame Valve, it's not their fault. Every piece of software since, oh, sometime in the 1990's has had this thing shown to you when you install it called an "End User Agreement." That text in there says you do not own the software; you instead own a license to use the software which may be terminated at any time.

On the note of Valve, when you go to activate a key, you are even prompted with their "Steam Subscriber Agreement" before you can enter the key. The agreement states (quote):

"2. LICENSES

A. License Terms.

Steam and your Subscription(s) require the automatic download and installation of Software onto your computer. Valve hereby grants, and you accept, a limited, terminable, non-exclusive license and right to use the Software for your personal use in accordance with this Agreement, including the Subscription Terms. The Software is licensed, not sold. Your license confers no title or ownership in the Software. To make use of the Software, you must have a Steam Account and you may be required to be running the Steam client and maintaining a connection to the Internet."

In conclusion: We don't hate Valve because it's not Valve's doing. It's lawyers doing. Hate the lawyers.

While this is true in terms of how your rights are defined in the EULA, the EULA does not override regional consumer protection law, hence the cases which are currently rumbling on in the EU courts.

In a number of recent cases, courts have found in favour of the consumer, deeming the EULAs to be, in layman's terms, "bollocks" and in direct contravention of customer protection laws in the locality where the software was sold.

Oh I certainly don't disagree that law takes precedence over a companies legal clauses, this is true anywhere. I'm not arguing that...

But to use your point against you, note that the people had to go to court in order to get their software back. Until our Governments agree that EULA's are garbage and the consumer, in fact, owns the software and not just a license, we will be doomed to continue this chain of going to court over our buying rights.

Personally? I don't have the money to do that. Should Valve remove games from my account, I'm kinda screwed, as are a lot of us.

The fact remains, however, is that I was reminding the OP that currently, as it stands, we are buying licenses and not the software itself.

Hello ***

I can confirm that the maker of the game banned this CD-Key. You will need to contact the seller to find out why. If the seller was just a random person on Steam, he was probably a scammer.

If you can provide the seller's name, we will investigate this user and take appropriate action. Please note that you will not receive a notification about any action taken as a result of this report.

Some examples of trades that you should not agree to are:

  • Trading items/gifts for money outside of the Steam Community Market
  • Trading items/gifts for CD keys
  • Trading items/gifts and expecting them to be returned to you through a verbal agreement
  • Trading items/gifts for nothing in return in the first trade and expecting to get an item or gift in a later trade

For more information on our Steam Trading Policy please visit the following FAQ:

Does anybody whose game got deleted have any new information?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

There's not much more to say. The dev/publisher found out about an exploit or theft of their games and had Valve recall all the affected keys.

Whoever was selling the keys was the one exploiting/stealing them, and whoever bought them from him were scammed :/

Makes me think of this. It also notes that Amazon didn't reserve themselves the right to delete those books.

Also steam T&C section 2A defines that you have no right to the software, nor do you have a right to use the software without their permission(which can be revoked at any time). That means even if valve dissolved and tried to delete your games but you turned off your internet connection you still couldn't legally play any of the games. They sure do cover their bases.

Well I talked with mine (we have same trader) and asked about refund/new key. Answer was that he/she is thinking how to deal with this situation. He said there's 7 customers with same problem. So we'll see what happens, hopefully a new working key! =)

I thought I should comment. Mine just disappeared. I do not know when this happened but I just noticed it. What I am ticked about is that steam also seems to have taken my season pass from me which I paid for (bioshock infinite) through green man gaming. I contacted them we will see if i get bioshock back but i definitely expect my season pass back.

I do not know who you guys got it from but I found the guy I got it from. I am interrogating him and if he does not give me my money back or a new key i will leave bad feedback on steam trades plus report him to steam.

My trader got this mail today:
We are still working to deliver the BioShock Infinite game key and will send you a separate email containing this key as soon as it becomes available. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

Regards, AMD Gaming Support

So maybe there's still hope, we'll see.

whoever you recived the key from probably bitched to steam saying his key won't work...having the records of buying it, steam probably banned you from that key thinking you stole it from him...thus returning the game to him?
