Not sure if its 100% rpg but dark souls 1 and 2 have amazing soundtracks. Also red dead redemption. I work with music for a living (audio engineer) and these game soundtracks are next level. fallout also has a massive soound scape I would call it as it doesnt really consist of conventional "songs".

No one mentioned Skyrim and the approching to the dragon? Also personally I liked the Gothic 1 and 2 heavy and mysterious soundtrack.

Fallout, Arcanum, Vampire the masquerade: Bloodlines, Planescape torment, Dark Souls, System Shock 1+2, Deus Ex series, Mass Effect had some cool tunes also, and some others I guess :)

I don't know, there isn't really any "best" rpg music. All are amazing in their own ways. I mean if you wanted to argue which rpg plays music at the best possible times. There's that.

It's a MMO, but I have to mention Lineage II.

Sacred 3 and Sacred 2

Skyrim's theme is pretty awesome, I listen to it on my phone quite a lot. Bastion also has a pretty good soundtrack overall

um runescape and fallout 3 for me. Oh and legend of zelda is pretty good.

The Atelier and Ar Tonelico games have some of the best overall soundtracks, I've found. Other games may have individual songs that may be better, but these don't really have a single song that isn't top class.

Come on people, lets be serious now. We all know Final Fantasy X has the best soundtrack ever. Period.

Gothic 3. One of the best soundtracks ever by Kai Rosenkranz. Music from Gothic 1 and 2 is brilliant too, but it's more ambient-like while Gothic 3 is more epic.
