Which one is better for a newbie in melee fighting?

Mount and Blade isn't really combat oriented. I prefer it, but you may want to see some gameplay to see if its the kind of game you would like.

Make sure you watch the singleplayer, not the multiplayer.

I meant compared to WotR. WotR is straight PvP while M&B is a lot more than that. It is also more of statigic combat than simple hack-and-slash.

Ah, I just noticed you meant the singleplayer. In my opinion, Mount and Blade has a lot better combat, and a lot more fast-paced than the War of the Roses. I have both games, and MB seems so much more responsive. And yeah, War of the Roses is pretty much hack and slash because blocking is clunky.

Though M&B Warband has the inferior graphics, the gameplay is much better + You have also Singleplayer + there are a ton of mods for the game (For example Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones...etc.)

You can try both games (demo to level 6 in warband, and some limited features in wotr). I own, play and like both games, but tbh if I were you I`d save money / wait for bannerlord.

Mount and Blade! I got War Of the Roses for free some time ago and i'm happy that i didnt spend money on it. For some reason i just dont like the combat. It doesnt feel... meaty? i guess. I cant really explain it, but i just dont like the combat at all ( my opinion i know that some people like it).

Don't be fooled by the shiny graphics. Mount&Blade is better, not to mention singleplayer.

Well, Mount & Blade ( I have Warband ) is a fun game, but it seems more like an army-in-a-war simulator, rather than a fun combat-orientated game. When you get into a battle, you can lead your soldiers into it, send them into the battle without you( Usually when you are injured enough, or if you choose to do so, but it results in WAY more casualties than if you were to actually fight in the battle) and then the obvious, you can flee or surrender. Surrendering does have realistic, but extremely shitty feeling to it. You lose just about every single soldier you have with you, when you flee ( companions stay but eventually they leave after once or twice of becoming a prisoner )and you lose a few items / denars ( money ). The sieges are unique. Towns can have 3 levels, and castles/forts can have 2 levels. Villages, you can loot and pillage ( raid, basically )and you can also force them to give you supplies, steal their cattle, etc. You can lay siege in two ways. A ladder, or a siege tower. I don't know what determines what method you use, but currently it takes about 66 hours to build a siege tower, and 6(or 7) hours to set up the ladder. And, of course, there's quest. There's too many for me to really want to go into details. Unless I'm missing something, that's most of the big details. You start out having to do a quest to get a merchant's brother from bandits, and you build up from there. My suggestion would to do Guild Master quests ( They're found in towns. )and eventually mercenary yourself to a kingdom. As a mercenary, you can explore the several kingdoms to see which ones you like the most. There's also a morale system. Variety of food, what units are in your party, leadership, etc. Several factors effect morale. When your morale hits low, ( 1 level under below average, if I recall correctly )units start leaving your party. There's also a party-size system, but that's just depending on leadership, fame ( or renown ), etc. When you become a Marshal, you'll notice a specific stat on your character page. Controversy. When you are a Marshal, if a fief ( towns, villages, castle, etc. )is looted, taken, etc. - YOU are blamed for it. Yes, kind of stupid, but you're supposed to be the campaign leader. It's capped at 100, and it lowers you chances of getting a fief, and you can't tell anyone to support you in a fief. Personally, I'd rather let the NPCs do the marshal-ing, because they seem to be good at it. Because they're NPCs.
Swadia - General English / France / etc. kingdom. I like the Knights and Sharpshooters, personally. They just really pack-a-punch with their crossbows.
Rhodoks - Not sure how to explain these guys. I suppose they're kind of a none-horse kingdom, and they tend to use polearms. (E.g., Glaives, Halberd-type weapons, etc.)
Nords - Well, as you could probably assume from the name, they're the Vikings kingdom. They have great archers, and their Nord Huscarls are just... Terrifying on the battlefield. Even if you're at war with the Nords, and you're suffering a morale loss due to having Nord Units, I'd suggest to get a group of Nord Huscarls. Definitely worth it.
Khergit Khanate - Ah... The KHANS. Yes, horse-only units, generally. They're a pain in the ass to fight against if you can't catch up to them. Their horse archers are VERY accurate, and their lancers are just purely a pain in the ass. Personally, I'd just get a bunch of horseback units for these, just in case. It's why I hold onto Knights equivalent to about 20% of my army( Or try, I currently am just replacing the rest of the amount by mercenary cavalry ).
Sarranid - Kind of unique. I suppose. They have these archers called 'Master Archers'. Yeah, their name is accurate. They're sadly very accurate and do a decent amount of damage. They also have throwing-units (e.g. Javelins) and they aren't nice. Throwing-weapons tend to do more damage but are a lot less accurate, though. Just try and circle in on them. They also have enemies called 'Marmalukes'. Imagine an armoured guy with a metal harem hat on with a giant metal club. Oh, and he has a shield. And he's kind of hard to kill. It's their 'beef' of the infantry, basically.
Vaegirs - Russian, China, etc. I think it's more keyed towards Russian, but eh. They have amazing archers, if I recall correctly. I, personally, don't fight these guys a ton, but they're annoying with their constant archer / cavalry mixes. You would fight these guys the same you would fight anyone else. I'd have to really say that Vaegirs are one of the easier kingdoms to fight.
That's the 'summary' on the Vaegirs. Here's some other stuff I may have missed:
-You can go into a 'fast-mode' by holding Ctrl + Spacebar when moving. Spacebar by itself is just a hotkey for 'wait here for a while' action in the camping screen.
-When using a lance-weapon, if you're moving a certain speed, you will hold your lance up. Don't try and use it, but instead just try and hit the enemy by 'aiming' for him/her. This is called conching your lance. It's generally what you would do in a jousting tournament anyways.
-When you have enough money to spare, buy some businesses in towns. I'd have at least 5000 to spare, because you don't want to go into debt because you can't pay your soldiers. I've noticed that the velvet business tends to give the most, on average in the 500s, but it's not always the case.

TL;DR Buy Mount and Blade Warband.
