I just think Giana has the wrong aesthetics to appeal to the wide audience, Towns and Miner Wars had a much more appealing aesthetic to the 'average' gamer- aka not girls on the store icon.
If I didn't hear friends talking about Giana I'd never click on their store page just because first impressions are everything in the retail world.

That's why.

No, I am totally with you on this. Although I think it's quite possible that all of this could just be the stupidity of the masses. Who else could have bought all those copies of War Z, making it the Nr. 1 selling game while it was on sale? Why shouldn't they try the same with Towns.

You do realize that Towns is a functional game and not a cash grab, right? I voted for it despite its unfinished state, I think the devs deserve a break. But if they don't reach release quality within the next few months, they'll completely lose my support.

making it the Nr. 1 selling game while it was on sale
AFAIK those sales figures actually factor in how long a games has been on Steam, so that new games have a better chance on getting a good ranking. It's not just the absolute number of sales.

I had never heard of Giana Sisters, and TBH, it looks like shit.

Lol, Towns, a "lesser known game"?
Aahahahahhaahahha. Nope. Towns has quite the following actually.

I still think Giana Sisters would have a broader appeal than Towns, hence my comment about the popular vote.
I'd love to see the breakdown of votes and units sold for these flash deals. I believe that the push to get people to vote in order to obtain a badge means a serious misalignment between votes and actual purchases.

I voted for Ginna Sister, in my opinion is much more appealing than the other two and I do not see how it can not have won. Moreover Miner Wars was on sale somewhere for a couple of bucks and Towns has already been given away by some Indie thingie. So I dunno.
Unless Gaben puts on sale the least voted game so that the majority of people have to buy the others at full prices. Yes I know, take you all out your tin foil hats!

It was on some Indie Gala or something as far as I know. And Gianna Sisters is a visually appealing plataformer IMO. At first sight I'd vote that one over the other two.
And for what I've heard Towns is a bit broken.

If it had been featured in a Gala, I'd own it already. And how would that be "given away"? You do realize these bundles cost money, right?
About appeal, a platformer is the least appealing genre imaginable. It would take something epic to make me interested in one. The visuals are ok, I guess. Not my idea of appealing though. At first sight I was disinterested and felt like moving on without even watching the trailer. And that's exactly what I did back when I ran across this game in Greenlight. I only took a more thorough look at it when it got greenlit. At the time I was puzzled as to why this seemingly boring game got so many upvotes. And I'm still puzzled. Why does it have such a fan circlejerk around it?
Now let's look at Towns. It's a game where you manage the typical RPG town. That's such a poorly explored setting that the game is very appealing just from the description, without ever setting eyes on it. It would take massive screwing up by the developers for this game to become less appealing than a platformer.

I said in my opinion. Our oppinions differ and there's no problem with that.
But as Towns had already been featured on a bundle (I might have used a bad choice of words there) I though that the ones who were interested on it would probably already onw it. Nothing else.
And as far as I know, Towns is quite screwed up.

Well, Indie Royales aren't that popular, and an alpha bundle that didn't include Steam keys at the time was never likely to get much attention.
"I said in my opinion. Our opinions differ and there's no problem with that."
Sorry, then. Your original comment made it sound like you didn't think the voting was legitimate because it doesn't match your opinion.

Well I gave several reasons (Towns being in a bundle and Miner Wars being on sale a few days ago) but it's true that what I like does not have to be liked by everybody else. So I understand why Towns may have been chosen. Moreover I was half joking on my comment
And yeah, one of those Desura or Greenlight bundles is quite easy to skip. And no need for apologies :)

I had my CC ready to buy Giana Sisters the second the deal came up. Pretty disappointed. That's THE game I've been waiting for since the beginning of the sale.

Unfortunately My CC wouldn't work with GMG -for some reason my bank thinks they are a scam ;)

I've heard this can happen. You should be able to sort it out. I guess they think the "gaming" in the site means it's a gambling site.
I've used paypal from day 1 with no hassle. With their vouchers and cashback/credit, they're sometimes pretty hard to beat on price.

I think you guys get out from under your rock. I don't like any of those games, so I wasn't biased with voting. Hell I just randomly picked one. But really? "I had never heard of Giana Sisters, and TBH, it looks like shit." "You should be ashamed of yourself, sir!" "Wow, you must be close to being fucking blind." I really hope this is some fucking joke. The world doesn't revolve around what you all like to play, nobody fucking rigs these contests. If a game you like wins, then whoopee you can go buy and save some extra money for your online porn subscriptions. But a game you like didn't win? "Boohoo gayben(lolo troorlrlrlrr) rigged the conetst fuck u all gib money". SHUT UP PLEASE.
Ok that was my rant if you looked at it you owe me 20 dollars or you are getting sued. Going by the honesty code here.

Can you think of a more appropriate word for what's happening? To quote:
And that's just the replies to people who don't like the game. Let me also list people encouraging each other's belief that GS couldn't possibly have lost in a fair vote.
And here's some outright slamming of Towns:
Edit: Oh, and I forgot the opening post!

Haha! Suspended for insulting the Great and Glorious Giana Sisters :D
Just checked my calendar. It says "Winsday"...

I voted Towns randomly because I cba to check what games are on the Poll, I just randomly click one and fire away the Vote. Just want that "Vote atleast 15 times" achievement :P got the other 5 already + not bothered with purchasing anything.
Comment has been collapsed.
See, this is actually the problem. People shouldn't be incentivized to vote when they don't care about the outcome. All it does is skew the voting in favor of something that will now have less appeal since it was voted in by people who don't have any intention of purchasing anything.
Comment has been collapsed.
No, more likely than not to be the first in the list. Basic human response like saying the first thing that pops into your head in a word-association test. Based on some of the responses here, didn't know/care so picked Towns, that would appear to be true to some extent.

Giana Sisters was actually the only game I wanted to buy this sale... Well crap.
Comment has been collapsed.
You ever notice underneath the games it says, "In the event of manipulation or technical difficulties, Valve reserves the right to decide what goes on sale." Maybe, just maybe Valve is actually doing that.
Maybe all those TF2 bronies' votes (I love TF2, but I ain't no brony) with multiple accounts all coming from the same ip address got thrown out, and the least voted game won. Seems plausible, no?
Comment has been collapsed.
Trust me, don't buy it. This game is really broken and since release there was not a single patch.

ivoted for towns, yes i have it it is a decent game. plus miner wars was 80% off after a week of it comming out, and i just wanted to piss off everyone that wanted the giana sisters. and if you really wanted giana sisters you should have gotten it in the bundle it was in so merry christmas cry more for gifts you cant/didnt get.

C'mon, Gaben, at least try to pretend this shit ain't rigged.
Not to say Towns and Miner Wars 2081 don't have their fans. But at the very least it seems highly implausible that lesser known games of their respective genres would capture 73% of the popular vote!
Yes, I'm sure some of you disagree. Let me have it.
