Enjoying the new event?
When I remove the faster friends, get I place 1? :D

I'll just be buying keys from Humble Bundle and Fanatical from now on, and cutting Valve out of the picture, other than their client. Most of my games are there, the ones that have DRM have to sue the client. But I don;t have to give Valve money for the games if i can get them elsewhere, cheaper, without the "Buy games to earn points/tokens/complete disrespect from Valve, your family and your friends!" gimmick. :)

The rules are confusing at best, lots of people dont understand what the hell is this, worst, they removed the trading cards and my main source of income for my wallet. Booster capacity should have been named as Fuel tank and Boost Points simply as FUEL.
You start with a car with a "small" fuel tank (base on your previous purchase, more or less a p2w system, but here there're no guaranties to win anything), and you have "access" to several fuel pumbs (like games, for me was BL2, Killing Floor 2, Depth, Thronebreaker, games i play in the last days), those fuel pumps are filled with gas based in the amount of achivments previously unlockd, once you choose your TEAM you need to fill your fuel tank with one of those fuel pumps, but if your tanks is smaller thant the amount of fuel in the pump, you will lose the exedent (tank = 4k, 60K for achivments, mean you will lose 56k of "fuel" or boost points).
Ok how i can get a bigger "fuel tank" by wasting money on the store buying games, for me every ARS$ 10 = 91 points capacity. Also each day our tanks will increased by 100 for free.
Using software like SAM will not give u nothing.
GRAND PRIX QUESTS
Complete Quests during the Grand Prix to get rewards and help your team place in today's race.
if you read those quest none are Steam Achivments, are TASK, like Earn five points in a TF2 Casual match, Complete a Mann vs. Machine Mann Up mission in TF2, for me i try to complet quest for Deathwing and none works, i mean steam give me nothing by hacking a door, killing an enemy with melee weapon in SP, etc. those thing are unlocked or completed using SAM.
No trading cards = Worst sale ever (also they affected the selling of the other trading cards, people already know that by crafting a game badge you get those useless discount cupons, trading cards are selling much at much slower rate than it does during this special times)

For Killing Floor 2 Achievementsi get 62035 points, Borderlands 2 16833 points, Thornebreaker 235 points.
I use the points i get for Depth achivments, since i dont understand how it works by them i waste lots of points cos my tank was smaller.
With the points/games left i can refill once per day, so by the end of the week i will not be able to refill, im not sure but i read something like you have to play a game for 30 min during the sales to get the points for the achivments you have unlocked for that game. If this is right we will need to play some "older" game with previous unlocked achivments. I was idling the cards for Yakuza 0 and now i see Yakuza 0 i shown between those games (of course i still have 0 achivments) i will try to idling a game like L4D2 to check if i get the points for those achivments

I watched Gaming Taylor's 10min vid explaining the event and I'm still very very confused.

1) you need to buy games to increase capacity of the your car, so you can get more tokens
2)launch games with many achievements, where you got them and redeem tokens from there.

The whole thing is borked. I've now hit 15k 4 times now (and redeemed 4x $5 tokens). Have not done anything really, apart from clicking boost 60+ times, and claiming points for previous (pre-event) achievements. Not bought anything, apart from adding a little from wallet to get over the value of the $5 tokens.

is better to have community complain about an event, than have it complain about lack of discounts sales for the epictencent action stuff, nothing that happen is casual, and with long years experience as steam have is not possible that this event is a mistake, this was planned very well (discourage customer in understand something, marketing of confusion tecnique so that gamer customer think what him get is better than nothing is the same pratice used by ubisoft when sell watchdogs multiple versions etc, also the various team corgi tortoise etc is for make people think is "something better for him")and is needed for brainwash the community, for keep it quiet and not ranting about lower volume of discounts sales, btw epic has not all faults services like xgp, uplay+ etc not help stores sales too.
this said i start -3800,reach around 4400 by do some achievements of games i have, speed up team tortoise just for fun and because i like to stay with who lose(yeas i was brainwashed too)use points for up my level just for fun because the discount that steam give is offensive for me i prefer to level up rater than have a little discount, personal point of view.
At least users/customer have the freedom to choise to not partecipate to this event, this is not to understimate in my opinion, what we today think is "normal" (not do something for need to buy or play) one day in vg business can be a "privilege" especially when will shift to cloud,so im happy that im lucky to live in this moment where if i not want to do something i can just not do it.

'than have it complain about lack of discounts sales'
Actually, most of discount are not historical low, not even better than it was on normal sales

i crafted 271 badge that i wanted to craft during this Summer sale in hope for the event trading cards..that got removed this time..
This is my protest to Gaben effing with everyone... cuz i saw i wont get cards anyway.
Last event he "gifted" money for everyone who got a lot of cards every day and now he calculated that Valve should get money, not the players.
One of my friends even said "now i'm thinking Epic store isn't very bad"...

It reminds me of the older events. Back then, there was a focus on actually playing your games to get achievements, an astronomically low chance of winning a game or two from your wishlist, and the whole racing thing is straight-up just the 2014 event (they're even cheating it the same way, by organizing users to join one team). Except that Valve seems to have forgotten what made those fun and just made it overly-complicated and confusing.
Also I'm pretty sure it's bugged, I joined a team before buying anything, but it hasn't registered I was part of a team when I bought anything so I didn't get any tokens or boosts or anything from it, and I've started out at zero everything even though I'm looking around and seeing that other folks started this event with at least SOMETHING. Then again, I joined late because of work, so it is entirely possible that I'm playing the fixed version and yes, we really are supposed to start with nothing. I'll have to try getting achievements, see what that does for me.
I just wanted to craft a badge, Gaben.

Keep in mind this is pure speculation but... It was rumored the Sales would be 4 weeks this time (instead of the usual 3 EDIT: it's 2 weeks, normally, not 3) and the Grand Prix event ends July 7th (so it runs for less than two weeks). The homepage does say Steam Grand Prix Summer Sale: Jun 25 - Jul 09, though.
So what will happen after the event ends? There's still time left for another 'event' or even Sale Cards; though that would be unlikely.

No idea about the rumor (when has the Sale been 3 weeks instead of 2?), but the 2-day difference is because the game drawings will be held within 48 hours from the end of each period: https://store.steampowered.com/grandprix/rules.

I've yet to understand where I can see that "boost meter capacity" they talk about. I only see some kind of speed dial, an odometer which goes down instead of up, a "nitro speedmeter" (whatever that is) and a "boost" button.
They probably thought something like "we have to make a casual racing game, let's ask Paradox about it".

From what info I gathered, it works like this:
And that's it.
Pay2win in its purest form, with a bonus of Reddit rigging the race, in addition to the ever-present glitches and screwups.
And of course, there're prizes just for participating... but it's gonna be like the Saliens event all over again.
Not to mention that there're, what, a total of ~13k prizes over the course of the sale, for 15 MILLION users?

Alright, thanks, it's becoming a bit clearer. It seems weird that using "fuel" would decrease max capacity though (I'll see how things evolve this evening, maybe it actually won't). I seriously hope Valve will never expand into building cars, between that and the whole "need to empty a whole gas pump in your tank everytime you want to refuel, with 99% of if spilling everywhere" thing.
(I don't think I've seen a single Steam event where Reddit didn't rig the odds. Why Valve still bothers with pseudo-"competitive" events is probably harder to understand that the Grand Prix mechanics.)

If only it were like a tank whose capacity you can extend and then fill each day.
But as you empty the tank, it shrinks again and the capacity disappears too. Have 2000 capacity, do 2 full boosts, now your tank is at 0 capacity and you either have to wait a day or spend a dollar to get a measly 100 capacity back.
If the capacity would stay, the event wouldn't be so bad at all .... (And if they had limited the 15k discount prize to one per customer, and maybe made the badge levels not quite so cheap, they could also easily afford it, I would think.)
As it is, I'll end up with a couple of emoticons and a badge level or three, and a hole in my budget where the earnings from trading card sales used to be (both those from the event itself, and those I would sell while other people were crafting their badges for the event).

I genuinely dislike the event. Valve had enough time to introduce the changes and the grand prix event but decided to confuse us all.
I'm not inclined to waste my time on understanding a game that is boring as well as irritating.
...and I really thought Valve would come up with something cool. :(

So apparently I started with -3k token, and had 2.7k points from achievement. I don't understand anything.
Comment has been collapsed.
well the event isnt any fun, at least it wont be won by scripters/cheaters like most of the others
Comment has been collapsed.
the only real question is are they going to be fixed like that summer event bullshit that let each team win one time then the same team won the rest of it

This is quickly becoming one of the worst events in the history of Steam. If boost capacity doesn't reset daily there is no salvaging it.
But hey, at least we get a 1:20,000,000 chance to win a free game.
