Those here for GAs look below

Kind people of SG, I need some help.
In a few weeks I will be having an operation on one of my eyes with the post op effects including sight loss for up to 2 months. I also have to avoid pressure for 2 weeks around the eye, e.g. picking something up, reading. I need games to play in this time that follow a set of guidelines.

  • Slow paced / Low Intensity - High speed gameplay is a no-no
  • No focused viewing - Sniping, watching the background and searching the screen for things is a no-no
  • Large text and easily readable - small text causes strain, colored text causes strain, no-no-no
  • Controller support or intuitive controls - this is optional but useful

Game ideas so far (haven't played them so do not know if they are truly suitable) :-

Stardew Valley
Euro Truck Simulator 2
LEGO Star Wars The Complete Sage
Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC

TLDR
Recommend me games I can play with one eye, low intensity and large text.

Thank you GAs (lvl 3+, end Sunday 19th)

Lego games are probably too fast paced and crowded on screen so I don't know about that.
Stardew Valley has some fighting activities similar to Legend of Zelda - a Link to the Past so you have to try it for yourself.

Some games you own that I recommend:

  • The Mysterious Cities of Gold
  • STAR WARS™: Knights of the Old Republic
  • Finding Teddy
  • The Old City: Leviathan
  • XCOM: Enemy Unknown / XCOM 2
  • This Is the Police

Good luck and hope you get well soon :)

Portal 2? easy to control with a controller, campaign is fun to play and there is lots of user made content as well. Should be easy on the eyes too but not sure, played it long time ago.

I think any classic LucasArts adventure is perfectly suitable. Those games don't require much pixel hunting and in any case the item names are shown when you hover the mouse on them. More importantly, they're fun, which may actually help you recover faster!

Some physiological outcomes caused by humor include improvements in immune system functioning and increases in levels of salivary immunoglobulin A, a vital system antibody, which serves as the body’s first line of defense in respiratory illnesses.[33][34] Moreover, other health outcomes include faster injury recovery rate and lower readmission rates to hospitals for the elderly, and reductions in a patient’s stay in the hospital, among many other benefits.

  1. The Novelist: fits a lot of your criteria.
  2. Over The Hills And Far Away: another good choice.
  3. Star Sky
  4. Costume Quest (Possibly? You may want to check the trailers)
  5. Any of the Telltale games: The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, Game of Thrones, etc. Fits some of your criteria
  6. Submerged. It is a really fun game, and quite relaxing.
  7. Message Quest. Very easy, very relaxing.

That is all I can think of at the moment. Good luck with your upcoming surgery, and I will send good vibes your way and I wish you nothing but the best! Take care!:)

I have a very varied taste, I'm willing to play nearly any genre except sports games (in general but I do like golf and American Football)

Then how about....

If you want a VN: Fate Stay Night, Grisaia Series, Steins Gate, Corpse Party, Danganronpa (this one is not an actual visual novel but you will read a lot).

If you want an Strategy Game: go for card games like Magic Duels or Yu-Gi-Oh!. You can play as slow as you want. Other possibility would be Plague Inc. (You can play the flash or mobile versions since those are free).

If you want an RPG: Well, here you can play almost any game you want but you want a recommendation I would say you can give a try to a flash game named Sonny (also has a sequel) that for a flash game it's quite good. Other good options could be FF1 and FF4.

If you want a graphic adventures game: Monkey Island Series, Day of the Tentacle, Gabriel Knight or any other game which requires only point and click.

If you want an adventure game: Silver would be my first pick since it's old and won't be a burden to your sight (at least that's what I think), other options could be Inside or Syberia Series.

That's all that comes to my mind right now. Hope you find it useful.

People mentioned Visual Novels but i haven't seen yet any CYOA yet- on my opnion better then VNs because they tend to include more gameplay challenges within the frame of narrative/imersion.

Choose your own adventure, aka stoy books. Pretty much any and all of then fill the requirements, also they have good sized text (most aim for tablet release). Too many to list: i will go straight at the best ones i know:

Sorcery!
This might be the best of the bunch. Parts 3 and 4 also great. Each part is a self contained many hours replayable adventure- other parts are more akin to sequels after mild cliffhangers then just episodes.
This world oozes with charm and character. The encounters you face are varied and wildly imaginative. It somehow manages to be both classical/oldschool and different with its fantasy.
Seriously, stop reading and go buy, trade or wishlist it. Not just you Kwagmire i mean YOU reading this right now. Howhever you are. Few titles i recommend to any and everyone, this is one of the few.

PS: I own it on steam just to give more back to the devs- if you're into tablets for gaming Sorcery is perhaps one of the best purchases you could make for it.

Lone Wolf
Imersive, creative 'puzzle solving' in tabletop rpg fashion - that means no weird solutions but logical in-character ones: will you try to sneak, distract, climb over the insecure cliff, try to talk? Each and every affected by stats and a variety of skills/perks that make impact in way more sensible way then most big budget rpgs do.

Then it couples that with a kinda of action turn-based system in 3d that is cool and good.

Warlock over the firetop mountain

The most oldschool of the bunch and also the most slick. Game books started being pretty much all about dungeon crawling in the most traditional tabletop sense of this chest is a monster, hidden levers opening walls and salivating monsters in ill lit places. Both lone wolf and sorcery are adaptations of the second wave of game books that included more plot and character (but were still very much about adventuring).

But not firetop. Oh no, this is as classic dungeon crawling as it gets: tales of riches about the mountain that no one can pass. Will you dare? Theres your plot. Its also adpted from a dungeons and dragons adventure i think (for a tabletop rpg player im not much of a dnd fan).

What they did was mix the CYOA of the original game-book/adventure with an actual dungeon to explore and one of the most fun turn-based combat ive seen: all of your actions are done on the next move. That means you don't hit 'this character' but rather aim at tiles the next turn- so you have to predict where your enemy will be. Its great fun.

PS: only one i don't own yet, played at someone else. May the gaming gods help me it gets discounted on this sale o/\

I would say a lot of simulators in general, but here's what I can fit from my games:
Farming Simulator series (text is small-ish by default so you might want to set it up beforehand)
Civilisation series
Banished (again, small text, best google if can be modified as I'm not sure)
Game Dev Tycoon
Merchants of Kaidan
XCOM and XCOM 2 (the turn-based strategy ones)

Might want to check up on all of them beforehand for small/coloured text just in case, but outlined what I remember anyhow.
