Speaking of Kickstarters, here's one recommended by the Steamroll team, and also worth looking at if you're into stylish puzzle games [like Steamroll]:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/731043103/renoir
"a story-driven 2.5D noir puzzle platformer"
"James Renoir is a private detective with a dark knot of a past struggling to stay afloat in a city sunk to the floor by crime and corruption.
[...]
James Renoir wakes up. Nothing is unusual - not the place, not his condition.
Except that he’s dead. "

There will be at least 6 game options per day for each of the remaining days :)
Also, hm-
If any game gets at least 5 votes, and isn't the first or second in its poll ranking, there'll be a good chance I'll post it as an 18hr flash giveaway [not-whitelist, invite-only via this thread].
[The nudge-nudge here being, 'get more people involved in the event if you can' :) ]
Comment has been collapsed.
Nope, you're totally solid. A game is a game, regardless of source; And our anticipation is the same no matter where the game comes from, so long as it has the potential to be awesome :D
I didn't really care for Fallout 3- unsurprisingly, given that it was basically an Elder Scroll-structured game with a different face, even using the Oblivion engine. Just, didn't feel like Fallout, it felt like Elder Scrolls after you became The God of Nuclear Armaggedon and reshaped the world. :P [And I dislike Obsidian games as a rule. :/ ]
New Vegas, though.. now that's a game I found appealing :)
So, whether I'll like Fallout 4 or not, will depend solely on which direction they'll take it..
Which way do you prefer? :)
Comment has been collapsed.
I love 'em both. Actually, I love all the games (except Tactics, which I own but haven't played). I started playing the series in 1999/2000, and each of them has something I really like about it.
Objectively, New Vegas was the better game, if for nothing else but the engine. I think it has better DLCs and a better storyline, too. But Fallout 3 has a decent amount going for it, and I loved that there were so many places to find. (My favorite things about gaming are stories and exploration.)
I'm pretty excited about some of the stuff they're doing, even while I'm skeptical about some of the other stuff. I'm kind of mixed on the voiced protagonist; on the one hand, I'd love if they didn't, but since they clearly are, I must accept it. And seeing the E3 stuff, it seems to be pretty decent. I like the system to give Dogmeat commands, it seems like it has a lot of potential. But the things I'm most interested in are, of course, the story and the exploration. I love seeing how each area has its own culture and how everything fits together.
They've come a long way since Fallout 3, though, and it looks like they're going the New Vegas direction. Or, more accurately, they're continuing in that direction.
Comment has been collapsed.
I own Tactics on console and PC both :P
i initially got it because I thought it had co-op :X
Then I never got around to playing it..
It looks pretty good, though- okay, well, no, bad phrasing, it looks like someone tried to make an RPG using an especially grainy variation of the Starcraft 1 Tileset.
But the tactical elements seem solid, and it definitely seems to follow the spirit of the first two games; in sum, seeming to be a richer, more involving game [as far as gameplay is concerned].
And, while not what I expected, the multiplayer seems a reasonable time-killer for a couple of nights, if you have a friend interested in it.
Vegas just seemed richer, more focused, more driven, more engaging, more.. yeah :X
And I realize now, I goofed up and swapped developers. Bethesda is the one that did Fallout 3 and Elder Scrolls, not Obsidian. Obsidian is the one I like, the successor to Black Isle Studios, and who did Vegas [as well as Pillars of Eternity].
I'm also not big into expansive open world games, I prefer games that focus on giving a really rich, condensed experience [perhaps why I'm so into point and click games], so my perspective of quality is likely heavily skewed in that regard.
Also, I think Fallout 3 was more action-emphasized and Vegas more RPG-emphasized, perhaps.
You're doing a good job getting me intrigued by the new game :)
I heard it's going to be set in the same timeframe as the last two games, so it should be interesting seeing what gets tied in together in the new game.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, same timeframe as Fallout 3 (I don't recall offhand if New Vegas was also 200 years after the bombs), but set in Boston. There's at least one settlement in Fenway Park, and we learn more about the Replicants and, more importantly to me, the Institute, which is the remains of MIT and has something to do with the Replicants, probably producing them. In addition, there's a whole lot more to the whole "crafting" thing, including actual scavenging and rebuilding and making communities and stuff, as well as customizing weapons and power armor.
I keep meaning to play Tactics, and then I don't. Not sure why. Still, it's not considered canon.
I was wondering why you were talking about Obsidian. Obsidian isn't really a successor to Black Isle, though, just that several of the Black Isle people joined Obsidian. "On December 8, 2003, in the midst of serious financial difficulties, Interplay laid off the entire Black Isle Studios staff. Following these layoffs, some former Black Isle Studios employees took the opportunity to form Obsidian Entertainment, a video game development company. Former Black Isle staff joining Obsidian include Feargus Urquhart, Chris Avellone, Joshua Sawyer and Tim Cain." (from http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Black_Isle) Which isn't unusual; they are gamemakers, and Obsidian makes games.
Vegas did have a much stronger story than F3. I hope that F4 has a good story; I can only imagine that they've taken the criticism on board, since there's actual COLOR in what I've seen of F4 so far.
Comment has been collapsed.
Vegas was set 4 years after Fallout 3, iirc.
I referred to them as the successor to Black Isle, because that's what they promoted themselves as. It was a big part of their Pillars of Eternity kickstarter pitch. "You know what we did at Black Isle, we can do it again, you know you want it, give us your money" ;P
And yeah, here's hoping for the best :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Just Cause 3. I just had so much fun playing Just Cause 2, driving cars off mountaintops, stealing helicopters mid-flight, causing explosions everywhere. The map is huge with tons to do, I hope the next one is just as good.
Comment has been collapsed.
Ha, I loved watching clips of the JC games, they're so over the top and ridiculous, just what I loved most about GTA-style games [other than the excellent driving mechanics most of the games (but not at all GTAIV, ew, terrible) have, which is also a major draw].
I did finally get copies of both games for myself, but only just after my processor started burning out, so I can't play high-demand games anymore :X
Typical, right?
Well, eventually I'll grab a new PC, and that'll be on the list!
After, y'know.. Thief... Tomb Raider.. etc :P
Comment has been collapsed.
Star Wars Battlefront. I couldn't keep from drooling a bit when I watched the E3 stuff about it.
Comment has been collapsed.
It's about time that they came out with a new one!
/Especially since the PC ports are shoddy messes that not only removed the co-op campaign but often don't even work properly at all/.
Tsch, and I loved both games on X-Box, getting the PC ones was such a massive disappointment.
But, hopefully, with modern PC in mind from the start this time, they'll make it work smoothly-
And boy does it look fantastic.
No way in heck this old computer can handle it, though, so definitely need to sell a kidney for an upgrade :P
Comment has been collapsed.
Right!? My frame rate would be around "Look! I think it moved!"
Comment has been collapsed.
My main issue wouldn't be graphic capabilities, but the fact that my processor and RAM overheat easily these days, so about 10 minutes in it'd crash my computer, regardless of if my computer could run it smoothly or not :X
Hard enough swapping out the processor and motherboard on a PC, quite impossible on a laptop, no matter how capable the laptop is :P
Comment has been collapsed.
Uncharted 4. I know its a console game you're probably more interested in hearing people's PC game answers, but I try not to look too far ahead when it comes to games. I'm pretty far behind as it is, and every time I look forward to something (/cough Batman:AK), it ends up having a poor result. Plus, the previous Uncharted games have all been terrific.
Comment has been collapsed.
No, any answer is fine!
I've been intrigued by the Uncharted series since it came out; I was always into that roguish, Indiana Jones style adventuring. Tomb Raider sorta fits that bill, and thankfully made it onto PC, but, lacking a PS3+, Uncharted and The Last of Us are two notable game (seriese)s that I'd love to see ported over.
I really liked the first Batman Game, really well done, but I found the start of City really awkward and unfocused and unfun- except the Catwoman parts, which were /a blast/ but very limited in duration.
If I could just play the entire game through as Catwoman, I don't think I'd put it down..
As is, I'm not at all far into the game, and I just can't get the motivation to pick it back up.
A far cry different from Asylum, where I played the game through with minimal delay.
Comment has been collapsed.
It definitely has an Indiana Jones-type feel, which is exactly what initially drew me to the series. The action is a bit over-the-top, just like Dr. Jones, but its a blast! Unfortunately, there's no chance of Last of US or the Uncharted series coming to PC, since they're Sony properties. Still, I'd say it would be worth getting a cheap PS3, whenever they end up getting phased out. I think the exclusives have been well worth owning one.
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't get a lot of gaming time, and have both hundreds of (PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, Wii) games as well as hundreds of PC games, that I have yet to play; so it's hard justifying a console purchase of any sort (and Wii U looks really good on selection!), especially with my limited finances.
Still, I can't argue that there's plenty of reason to get the PS3 at a good price if given a chance, there are plenty of oh-so-tasty games on it :)
Comment has been collapsed.
While PS2 backwards compatibility sounded great, it kept the price too high and really wasn't that useful. Plus, the revised PS3 was much more reliable. Honestly, there was only one game on PS2 not available through other means that I might have used it to play, and those can always be played on PC through other means.
While I'm never really an advocate of such things, as I see it, if companies aren't willing to take my money for a product, I shouldn't feel bad for not paying for it again.
Comment has been collapsed.
There's actually a decent-sized list of reasons why torrenting and the like can be legally and morally valid. Of course, now that good games are so easy to get [through giveaways and bundles], unless you're torrenting [decommissioned games or games that are broken (eg, due to DRM) otherwise] you're likely in the wrong :P
I want them to put the Deadpool game back on PC :'(
It's worth noting, if it's a game you already personally own, and you torrent a game for your own personal use, you are always in the legal and moral right; And I know I've had to personally do that before due to my Steam copies of a game not working correctly.
..which happens altogether too often, unfortunately :/
And, eh, I'd not argue your sentiment on backwards compatibility, except that generally the console-maker stops making last-generation consoles pretty soon after a new console is released.
Which, I'm not really sure there's a way to avoid, in a business sense, but it does mean that it gets harder and harder to play your older games.
Moving to hard-drive based gaming is definitely a step in the right direction, in theory, eventually all our console games will be able to be cloud-registered ala Steam Library, and we'll be able to download them on internalized emulator software on future consoles [and if costs are an issue, just charge to buy the emulator each new console].
And as far as emulation goes, I think you're basically always in the clear to do so, if the console in question is no longer actively being produced and sold [aince you can't very well be 'taking money from the company' at that point].
Comment has been collapsed.
First I've heard of Inside!
It looks FANTASTIC, graphically, but I'm having trouble getting any details on what kind of game it is/gameplay it has.
Limbo is in my library, but it's among the hundreds of games in my backlog, so I haven't played it yet. :X
Oh, if you're interested in other good Kickstarters:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1719693924/regalia-of-men-and-monarchs
and
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/731043103/renoir
both look really good.
You'll have to jump fast if you want in on the first, though- it's down to its last two days.
The PS2 Half-Life 1 game had a co-op campaign.
Absolutely my favorite part of the series :D
The game style- a tension+action+thriller+story driven game- works really, really well for co-op, with each event getting the benefit of two reactions, each amplifying the other.
If they ever do that again, that'd be near the top of my to-get list =O
Comment has been collapsed.
 I hate platformers- a few exceptions like Mario games aside- unless they're co-op or puzzle [rather than rapid platforming, ala Sonic games] based.
So it's always a "Ehhhh, I dunno' when I see a platformer with a cool concept and aesthetic, like Limbo, because I SHOULD like it, but I always worry the platforming'll be too annoying.
And, it's not that I'm terrible at platforming, I just don't find it compelling. I like things with story, and atmosphere, and slowly exploring those, not dashing along crumbling platforms and avoiding pitfalls.
Of course, when you do it co-op, it's different, because you can treat it more as a puzzler, by co-operating with your partner and having the fun of bouncing ideas back and forth..
or you can have an endless supply of laughs as you sabotage your partner [Oh Trine games, I love you so]. :)
Stealth-based games are also a mixed bag for me- if they're genuinely stealth based, they're usually a lot of fun, but when they're about 'memorize the guard's patterns' or 'okay, no more stealth, FIGHT FRANTICALLY NOW', I don't like them.
But give me a good stealthy exploration, detective, or ninja-assassination game, and that's good for me :)
Ha, yes, I remember the Odyssey games. Well.. I mean, I remember they existed, and that I played them, not, like, any details :X
In fact, my eye is on the 'New n' tasty' remake, but so far I haven't seen a decent deal on it on PC yet :/
Comment has been collapsed.
^what she said. You should really download Limbo, it's one of the best 2-3 hours of gaming I've had. So much atmosphere. Also, holy shit, Inside looks amazing O.O Also, holy shit, Regalia looks amazing O.O lol
Comment has been collapsed.
Sounds good, definitely a convincing argument to play Limbo soon!
Yeah, New n' Tasty and the Secret of Monkey Island remakes, are definitely blasts-to-the-past I've been hoping for sales on :D
Well, I've my own financial issues, so I generally only get $20 of disposable funds a month, and a fair portion always seems to end up going toward bundled game sales :P
So I know what it's like to wait..
Then again, sometimes you get something worth spending something extra on [like, say, an intriguing Kickstarter? :) ]
Comment has been collapsed.
Tales of Monkey Island was 90% off during the GOG summer sale, but I passed on it because I figured I should get copies of the remakes and replay them first :)
And yeah, I usually do decent on bundles, especially if all the games I want are in the first tier. Sometimes I even have a bit of money left over into the next month, and can afford to splurge [on a more expensive kickstarter or bundle tier].
It's pretty nice, being poor, yet having more games available to me than I could have ever imagined having as a kid :)
And, well, this is only my second backed game, so don't think too highly of my Kickstarter saavy just yet :)
Also, seeing as this was your first comment today, I take it you haven't looked at the top of the OP yet. ~.^

"my monthly budget is probably 10% of yours"
:points up: You get $2 USD to spend a month? That's harsh :X

Besides- Luck is on your side right now, right? :)

Kingdom Come: Deliverance which was on kickstarter too. Looks pretty realistic from the gameplay demo vids so far.

I'm looking forward to "Firewatch" ( http://www.firewatchgame.com/ ) and "Unravel." ( http://www.unravelgame.com/ )
I like the historicity of the visual style of "Cuphead," ( http://www.cupheadgame.com/ ) but apparently the style might also adhere to negative portrayals of minorities. So I'm not looking forward to that, if it's there.
edit: forgot to add "Land of Eyas." Which was Kickstarted. ( http://thelandofeyas.com/ )
Comment has been collapsed.
Unravel looks good, still not quite sure about Firewatch, hoping to get some more info soon.
Cuphead looks good for the co-op, I generally don't play platformers single player unless they're more puzzle based :)
Guess we'll find out about the rest of what you mentioned soon :X

A big round of applause to Hakunamatata, for joining Barter.vg in generously donating games to the bonus game list!
As a sort of 'unlock', I've updated the MVP prize section to clarify just what exactly the prize is!
I've also edited my post directly under the original post on the first page, to keep a record of any ongoing giveaways promoting the event, for those interested!
Finally, as a show of gratitude for all the support the event has received, I'm going to offer a 20 questions game for the next poll's games!
See the next post, below ;)

Special Event #1: 20 30 Questions
Guess what games will be in the next daily poll!
After asking a question, ONE of the two following conditions must occur before you are allowed to ask another question:
Only 30 questions may be asked, so think carefully!
Anyone correctly guessing a game will gain 5 entry points and the option to give 5 entry points to the person whose previous question they felt contributed the most to figuring out the game!
If you all manage to figure out half [3] of the games for a day, everyone participating in this special event will get 5 entry points!
As a special last day bonus, you will gain 1 entry point per question asked.
Each participant in the game may make a single guess of the letters composing the names of the games, ala the Hangman game, to a maximum of 5 guesses.
Questions Used: 6/30
Unlocked Hints:
The games are:
? ? ? ? ? | ? ? ? ? | ? ? ? ? | ? ? ? | ? ? ? | ? ? ? ? ? | ? ? ? ?

There are 6 games in the poll.
The games may or may not be bigger than breadboxes.
There are no RPGMaker games in the poll.
1 game is a Point and Click. 1 other game has Point and Click elements.
4 games have Very Positive reviews, 1 game has Positive reviews, 1 game has Mixed reviews.
0 games are FPS games.
0 games are Sci-Fi genre
3 games are platformers.

No one tried? is this gonna happen again for next giveaway, cause I think this would be fun.

Only have to guess 3 of them to 'win', though :)
I was hoping more to get good dialogue going [over which questions to ask] than anything, so as to generate more discussion in the thread [and more chances to give comment-gained entry points to people].
Going to make questions count for multiple days, makes it more interesting :)
Also upping total questions to 30.

So we're not limited to yes and no answers? Sweet. So, what are the names of the games for days 4, 5, and 6? ... Lol jk.
ummmm.... What is the name of a developer for some of the games?
Comment has been collapsed.
None of the games have clear examples of futuristic sci-fi advanced technology concepts.
[or put less vaguely, for sure none of them involve laser guns and trips through space and whatnot :P
They may be set slightly in the future though (which isn't a hint, just me being unsure), hence the vagueness. ]

The Steamroll game looks good. I like what you are doing here to benefit a game you believe in. How do I go about donating a game for you to add to your prizes or giveaways? Or is it better if I create a giveaway and put a link to this discussion in the description to attract more people?
Comment has been collapsed.
At this point it's still a pretty cozy affair, so giving it some more face time (via giveaways) is probably best.
Otherwise, feel free to add me on steam (leave a comment in my profile first so I know who you are) and send me the keys you wish to donate.
And you can thank Mr.Monttu for the motivation, his regular enthusiastic efforts to promote Kickstarter games is what got me involved in doing the same.
There's a post two below my original post on the front page, that shows some ongoing giveaways related to the event, if you need an idea of how to format giveaways.

I'm all for Steamroll ~ It seems to have a neato pinball aspect to it. Reminds me of the good ol' "Marble Madness" days. Steampunk art is cool. The trigonometry aspect of the game is fascination. I really like the items used to change the levels.

Exact formula being, everyone gets a 1 to 100 check; if they score under their bonus entries, they're eligible to win; in case of multiple eligible individuals, highest value wins.
So to win with a 2 absolutely required both you to have a low roll and everyone else to roll high.
So yeah, very low chance of winning indeed. :P
Yep, pick any number from that list, and I'll send you the relevant keys through Steam.
In the case of any bundled sets of items, please let me know which ones you already have/don't want, so we can keep them available for someone that needs them :)
Also, buy me a lottery ticket while you're at it, I want in on this luck of yours :X

Only interaction I've had with the creators is a single comment I made on the game's Kickstarter comment section :)
I'm just a big fan of puzzle games, steampunk, and bouncy things :D
Besides, they're doing such a great job presenting the game, it's a pity they're getting so little attention.
