Hello, I made a simple extension for Chrome to automatically join every giveaway from a main page (or page 2, 3 etc.). I waited for Easy SteamGifts to be updated for some time, now decided to make it myself (it's simpler than easy steamgifts by far and has just one function).

You can use it on wishlist only (click the button while viewing your wishlist page). Not sure about firefox, I'll reply later.

I think the crux of the issue is whether taking the time and effort to manually select "join" on multiple give-a-ways is...like essential. Or that using a script to do the same thing is against the "spirit".

Honestly, I don't really think it's a problem. This just levels the playing field for people who lead busier lives. Are those with more free time more "deserving" of a free game then anyone else? I don't think so. I can kind of see the argument that you're just entering for games you aren't even interested in however. Then again, maybe most people are just entering those give-a-ways manually anyway, and if so, what's the difference if they do it themselves or if it's a bot so long as they have the same odds as someone who really wants the game? steamgifts doesn't classify people by their desires for a game. If we're going to do that, aren't we just limiting who gets what based on morality? Maybe I drowned a puppy before winning a game. Steamgifts doesn't discriminate.

But it is against the rules, so it should be a problem

the Content is not spam, is not machine or randomly-generated, and does not contain unethical or unwanted commercial content designed to drive traffic to third party sites or boost the search engine rankings of third party sites, or to further unlawful acts (such as phishing) or mislead recipients as to the source of the material (such as spoofing);

It's been mentioned by the mods already on other threads

I do not think that your presented view is the factor that the majority here has resentment for. Short duration giveaways are sometimes short just to increase the odds of those who manage to be in time. There are many reasons why one could be allowed to enter a giveaway and luck is one of those.

The major point many here have presented is that auto-entering enables flood of bots to enter all giveaways regardless does the user even want the game or not. I think many frown upon the idea that people would win games they do not even desire. In such a scenario pretty much everyone loses - in some manner. The contributor, the winner and the person who wanted to win.

I know that people have stopped making public giveaways because there are too many problems associated with it. This does not improve the situation.

That one's easy

  1. Search for giveaways with no entries
  2. Enter giveaway
  3. Monitor entered giveaways, if entries > 1, leave

It's just not gonna happen very often... or ever :)

The new Terms of Service states:

  • the Content is not spam, is not machine or randomly-generated, and does not contain unethical or unwanted commercial content designed to drive traffic to third party sites or boost the search engine rankings of third party sites, or to further unlawful acts (such as phishing) or mislead recipients as to the source of the material (such as spoofing);

cg says this does include bots that will enter and/or comment for you. That's why I'm closing this thread.
