If you want xbox 360 or PS3 has a main platform xbox totally destroyes PS3. If you want them as a secundary platform then see the following list of cons and pros on each console.
xbox360 -pros

  • better online -> xbox live has demos on most games, has party chat, has better layout and more search options.
  • better exclusives but fewer exclusives-> Has the best racing game and shooters with LOTs of content (halo and gears have singleplayer campaign +co-op+competitive and casual multiplayer). It has some of the best JRPGs (blue dragon, lost odissey).
  • controller with removable bateries -> no need to have cables attached to the console
  • Can recharge gadgets even when the console is turned off
  • Most multiplatform titles are superior on the xbox 360
  • The console can auto-update itself. In fact even when powered off it will power itself on, apply the update and turn itself off. So it's always ready for playing games.
  • the controller has "analog" triggers so you can press a little for a small effect in game.

-Cons

  • You have to pay to play online (however it's on sale at least twice every year so you would pay for around 3-4 USD/euro per month)
  • Is region locked. If you are into Jap games this console is not for you.
  • The controller has a very poor D-pad. Want to do those combos on fighter games? this controller is challenge for that

PS3
-pros

  • Lot of exclusives but worse quality -> while games like last of us and uncharted are suposedly GOTY material you'll probably be desapointed by their content. When compared to their xbox exclusives content they just lack. Both uncharted and last of Us have an excelent polished SP campaign but have little more then that. They have no co-op and their multiplayer is much weaker than their xbox counterpart.
  • Excelent untraslated Jap games -> games like gundam extreme versus and robot wars are easely enjoyable without even knowing Japonese. To my surprise people give more attention to uncharted than gundam extreme versus. I was bored of uncharted in around 20 hours, Gundam i played around 70 hours.
  • Free online -> you can play for free! just expect a lot of downtime for server maintence.
  • It's region free-> you can buy anywhere anytime for your console.

-Cons

  • No compression system for games -> why should you care? i have around 50 games on disk for PS3. Out of my 250 GB they use around 160GB. Why do they ocopy this much? because of the following point
  • Mandatory updates and install -> do you think Steam is anoying with first time setup? well, PS3 blows it out of the watter with mandatory instals and patches that are as big as half the game. Let say i buy tales of vesperia on xbox, i insert the disk and i have a patch of around 12MB and i canplay the game. On tales of Xilia i had a 3,7GB patch then i had to install the game BEFORE i could play it.
  • You can not susbtitute the bateries of the PS3 controller -> you need to recharge your controller well you need to connect it to a USB device. Also the PS3 only recharges it when it's on so you can't let it recharge at night on the PS3
  • multiplatform titles generally run worse like bayonetta
  • the console only auto updates it's software if you pay for PS+
  • the controller has the thumbsticks near each other. If you got big hands yoru thumbs will "crash" into each other all the time. It also has digital trigger.
  • PSN doesn't give demos to most indie games so you are always buying "blind" if you don't have another platform to know more abou them

I think i got all of major features that should be taken to buy the console. I didn't had kinnect and PS move because i feel that they are to expensive to be compared however kinect does make you feel all trekkie with the voice commands with work very very well for controlling and searching stuff
In short PS3 is better for Jap games and worse on almost every other aspect to the xbox 360 console. I have both consoles so this are just "facts" that you should take into consideration on these consoles.

seriously you disappointed by the last of us and uncharted content????(+u3 has a co-op mode)

you ever played the last of us multiplayer????

removable batteries as an advantage??? unlike ps4 ps3 controller batteries lasts long enough that its less likely to forget to recharge it.....

to be honest after long expreince with both of live and psn yes live is better and has its advantages but psn in not that bad....

about racing games you play gt6 its enough.... dont need anything more....

on 360 while its an option to install game data youll end up with installing most of games data on your hdd its alot better that way .....

i played with both of them lived with both of them but if you asking me im gonna say get a ps3 th last of us itself is enough for me to completely ignore xbox360...(360 exclusives are good specially gears of war but not enough to make it better)...

feel free to mention Ps3 non jap exclusives that have the same content that Halo 3 or GoW have. SP+several types Co-op + survival + multiplayer.
AA recharable batteries last at least 24 hours of (continues) usage on the xbox 360 controller and i can just switch those ina few mins to get the controller at max battery. On the PS3 i have to use a cable. On the 360 i at least have a choice, on the PS3 i have to have internal batteries, my oldest PS3 controller last around 12 hours of continous use at the most. If the battery use diminishes in a few years i'll only have a cable controller.

"SP+several types Co-op + survival + multiplayer."

Because a game needs these to be good....? Since when exactly? Personally I HATE GoW, terrible game, Halo 3 was the worst in the series, liked the other ones but this is one series....so what? The good ones are on PC already. Since when does japanese make a game not worth it also? What are you on?

No good series or games? Seriously?

  • Killzone series
  • LittleBigPlanet series
  • Resistance series
  • Heavy Rain
  • Uncharted series
  • Ratchet & Clank series
  • Infamous series
  • Demon's Souls
  • God of War series
  • Metal Gear Solid 4
  • Beyond: Two Souls
  • The Last of Us

I'm probably missing a few also...just because you prefer shit like GoW does not mean its a better game btw....

I am not even that big a PS fan, I don't own a 360 or PS3 but have had both in my house from visitors for months, the PS3 got more use for sure. 12 hours of gameplay and you need to charge it and thats after long term, seems good to me, you're free to disagree....

i never mentioned that the games were bad just that i was disapointed by the lack of content.
The game doesn't need what i mentioned to be good but an excelent gameplay with those features is an amazing experience for me.
I wonder why you hate GoW and like uncharted? gameplaywise GoW is much more fluid then uncharted. Most of the GoW universe is also better detailed then uncharted.
I actually said that the Jap games are what made this console worth a buy and not the western ones that most people (like you) say it's better then the xbox counterparts.
If you actualy weren't very biased for the PS3 games you would never use heavy rain as an example of a good exclusive. If you aren't offended by that game then you really should have played farenheit before...
you are free to your opinion but if you look at those games (without demon and MGS which are Jap games) they have LESS content then their xbox counterpart. If you think they have better story, well that depends on your opinion but you cannot deny that gameplaywise and contenwise xbox exclusives triumph that.
A short commentary on each series/game

  • Killzone series - Gameplay equal to halo but the universe is vastly inferior
  • LittleBigPlanet series - xbox has no counterpart. Personaly i prefer sonic to these series. i have them free and i didn't like them. I'm not much of a creator
  • Resistance series - Inferior to halo in every aspect. The first game is a joke. The second is actually very good, excelent campaign and co-op. The third never happened for me.
  • Heavy Rain - Inferior to farenheit in every department. Choices are simple and almost without consequences. The way you discover the kidnapper is beyond stupid in my opinion
  • Uncharted series - the first game has reletevly clunky gameplay but the 2nd and 3rd are very good however their gameplay is never as fluid as GoW.
  • Ratchet & Clank series - never had the chance of buying or playing any PS3 versionj (unfortunatly)
  • Infamous series - I never played the second so i'll not comment on this series
  • Demon's Souls - excelent hard game from a japanese developer
  • God of War series - god of war 3 is an excelent beat them up. I never played ascension.
  • Metal Gear Solid 4 - another game from a japanese developer.
  • Beyond: Two Souls - still fell "burned" by heavy rain, until this game is "dirt" cheap i'll not touch it
*The Last of Us - Great story gameplay very similar to Uncharted.

My question to you is why do people insist in games like resistance and little big planet when you have tales of xilia, gundam VS, hatsune miku, super robot wars, etc for PS3? why use games that have content of less then 20 hours instead of these masterpieces?

I hate GoW because its garbage to me, control wise its garbage, I don't know what else to say, I played plenty of it over friends houses and it just feels like a slow third person Unreal Tournament to me, the characters perform actions way to slow and you walk like a damn tank, the first game really really lacked in content btw, me and my friend finished it in a couple hours and were left confused looking through the menus thinking we missed a couple chapters or something. I remember the sequels being a bit more content wise but not by much....

"you cannot deny that gameplaywise and contenwise xbox exclusives triumph that."

Quality over quantity for me though and I think you are wrong anyways....I don't hate Halo(Truly disliked 3 though...), its an average shooter that is actually quite fun with friends, almost everything else is sorta shitty imo.

You bash Little Big Planet which is praised for its creativity and hell it has more content then GoW and Halo if you ask me....You seem to get confused with amount of content and content you actually like, most of the PS3 titles I listed do not lack content, some you haven't even tried it seems.

It's really down to what you like exclusive wise, I am not a fan of the big exclusives on Xbox, I think they are very lacking, I know for a fact that many agree on that here alone. I don;t think that they are bursting with content like you say, I am not sure why you think that even, I mean games like Stalker are bursting with content, games like Skyrim and GTAV are bursting with content, I don't feel like Halo or GoW from what I recall are bursting with content, more so lacking....

But whatever, all opinions, It just made me chuckle a bit is all.

1) yes, i was disapointed by UC and last of us. " GOTY, great story, etc" most people said. Story is great even if a tad predictable on last of us (uncharted was really over the top, i loved it) however the gameplay for me just feels slugish when compared with gears of war/ tomb raider.
2) i have yet to play last of us multiplayer. I played uncharted 1/2/3 and i consider it very average. Personally gear of war 3 has better modes and more enternainig gameplay.
3) by no means that PSN is bad, if i made it sound that way i'm sorry and i'll try to find i way to edit it in anotehr words. I just find it inferior on the lack of demos and the high ammount of downtime
4)I played both GT6 and forza 4. For me forza wins in almost everything but where its most important is the variety of cars (forza has hundreds and hundreds of excelent detailed cars and not 13 variants of certans cars)and the ability to customaze the dificulty of the game, a friend arrives you can just turn most assist and that person will not feel a loser in the game, once you are alone again you can turn everything off for a better gameplay)
5) if you install a game on the 360 you will reduce loading times for a few seconds at most. why bother?
6) how many hours did you play last of us? 100-300? you can easely do that on games like super robot wars, ACE , gundam VS. Those JAp games are what make the PS3 a great platform almost close to the 360. 360 has games like halo and gears which have a lot of more content than last of us. Halo 3 takes around 10 hours to finish campaign then you can play with friends, play survival mode, play competitive Co-op, play competitive multiplayer, play casual multiplayer and above all of that you can modify almost everything in each mode to your liking! Does last of us or uncharted give that much freedom?
By no means you are not entitled to your opinion but i would preferred if you worded it less "offensive" when you probably prefer sony to MS.

idont know why do we have to compare uncharted with GEoW?? its like comparing cs with cod(both are just FPS nothing more similar)....

yes GEow was a real good game i enjoyed it and loved it but as i said above its not enough...

i play The Last of us multiplayer anytime i can its reall fun and i really like it....

almost always you endup with installing games on xbox 360 hdd(even for a few seconds) ....

and what is a great story in your opnion bioshock infinity imo is bioshock story was 6 the last of us story is 11 in bioshock all interesting things revealed at end but in the last of us any moment is great....

the last of us gameplay has nothing to do with uncharted series or tomb raider or ....

icant understan what is this content thing for you???? halo multiplayer??? everything you mention about 360 is halo and geow sometimes forza so where is the more CONTENT on 360 ???? halo multiplayer???

i would buy a ps3 only because of TLOU or beyond or Useries but i wont buy 360 only for halo(but Geow maybe) ....

im not a fan and i dont want to be i played with both but if someone asks me i would tell him to get a ps3 .... youcan ignore halo but you cant ignore The Last of us and U and beyond and.......

i like gt more...

u3 multi player and campaign is good it has a survival mod too....

You forgot to also mention that the cable provided for the wireless controller is really short so if your batteries run out you'll be sitting right up against the TV pretty much. My console is maybe 5-6 feet away from where I normally sit and the cable doesn't even reach that far. The 360 having a removable battery pack is definitely superior. I have two rechargable battery packs so if one dies out I just pop it into the quick charger and grab the other one.

Of course you can probably buy something longer, but that is still pretty much requiring a purchase of an additional accessory when they should provide a cable that is at least 10-12 feet long.

Neither is inherently better than the other, despite what a lot of people here are saying. Nearly everything is multiplatform these days, so it really comes down to what exclusives you like. If you like FPS, then XBOX is for you, as the vast majority of Xbox exclusives are some flavor of shooter, though there are a few JRPGs from when Microsoft tried to get Japanese game players to buy the system. If you prefer ANY other genre, the PS3 has a much larger library of exclusives compared to the Xbox, especially Japanese games*.

On the other-other hand, if you want pure quantity of exclusives, get a Wii. :P

*Note: while the PS3 has a lot more non-shooters, not everything is good, same for the Xbox. But, out of the (very) small number of JRPGs on the Xbox, all of them are really good in my experience.

It all depends on which genre of games you like more. The 360 has tons of shooters, with barely any exclusive RPGs, whereas the PS3 has a lack of shooters, and more RPGs, notably jRPGs.

The UI sucks on both, and the PS3 controller is pretty damn uncomfortable. But I'd go for the PS3 as it offers more variety in its exclusives. Unless you love shooters, then get the 360.

However, don't leave the Wii U out of consideration. That's got quite a few nice games coming up, though they won't be out for a few months/year.

I don't get how people find the PS3 controller uncomfortable. It's more comfortable than the 360 pad, even ignoring my preference for the dualshock stick layout.

Do people, like, wrap their first two fingers tightly around the bottom of the controller and try to stretch their thumbs up to use the buttons?

Permalink

I have long fingers, so the PS3 controller is just too small for me to get a comfortable grip. I like how the 360 pad is chunky, so my fingers are spread out more rather than being all bunched up together.

PS3 has more and better exclusives, and Playstation Plus (if you do decide to pay) remains pretty great for getting more games. Things you'd definitely want to play include Journey, Tokyo Jungle, and Demon's Souls. If you didn't play them in the previous generation, you really want to try Ico & Shadow of the Colossus HD, and Okami HD.

Better is subjective, but I feel there are more great PS3 exclusives than there are decent 360 ones. A lot of the reputation each console got dates back to the first year or so, and things changed a lot over time. Take a look at this picture with the 2010-2013 exclusives for each, conveniently colour-coded by metacritic - if nothing else, something might catch your eye.

Both consoles has their own pros and cons so I find things about both about them I like. PS3 has free online but the 360 doesn't, but Gold membership can benefit if you can afford it. Both have a decent amount of exclusives, 360 is my go-to console for third party games but I have the PS3 for exclusives, especially Ratchet and Clank, The Last of Us and others. PS Plus is sort of like Gold, except there are better prices when there's sales going on, you can also play full game trials for an hour. But I'd recommend you go with whatever your friends have, otherwise you'll have nobody to play with and/or have to find friends who have a 360. I unfortunately have no friends with PS3s anymore, just 360s and PCs.

They're roughly the same but since I got my 360 first, I prioritized it so the PS3 was only used for exclusives...which meant it just gathered dust in a corner most of the time. I hardly even used the thing at all.

Just look at their exclusives. Buy the console who's exclusives you like best. Don't look at hardware and raw power because that's fucking idiotic, this isn't a PC. I'm guessing you aren't looking for an "entertainment center" that offers some other bullshit besides gaming. When it comes down to it, only games mater so go over each consoles exclusives and go for it.

I own both but if I were buying now, I'd go for a PS3. 5 years ago, it would be a 360.

I went with PS3 without even checking. Because I wanted those exclusives. And the best games for 360 are probably remade for Xbone anyway.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I have both and truly it depends on what sort of games you enjoy and how much you care about multiplayer. I dislike multiplayer so the requirement of having gold to use it means nothing to me (I actually do have it, since I have gotten it for free for the past few years). However, I also like JRPGs, so the number of games I enjoy are pretty sparse on 360. Though I'll say the ones on there are very good. Keep in mind that gold also does net you some free games each month as well, that you can keep after your gold runs out (PS+ takes them away). The free games can be hit or miss, but there have been some nice ones and enough to have made an annual membership worth it.

But in the end when it comes to a console, what should win out is the one that has the most games you want to play on it. Both are equally good consoles with some great games on them but that matters little if your preferred type of game to play is severely underrepresented on the console.

I use to love everything about the Xbox 360 but Microsoft killed it for me once the dashboard became unbearably slow and filled to the brim with their spammy advertisements. I personally was never a fan of the PS3 for a number of reasons; I wasn't a fan of the GUI, the controller never felt quite right to me, and none of my friends played on it.
If I had to pick one over the other I'd have to pick the 360. Otherwise I'll be sticking to PC gaming!

I have both and I prefer the PS3 over the Xbox 360.

The PS3 imo has a better controller, free online (PS plus is absolutely worth it btw), better exclusives, doubles as a blu-ray player. One of the cons is the time it takes for you to update your PS3 system, with the Xbox it's a breeze.

The Xbox community is larger, their online is much more reliable (less downtime and such), they have an okay amount of exclusives. The major downside is paying monthly, but in return you get a free game each month, and unlike PS Plus, you get to keep the games after your subscription expires.

Depends on the games you want. The PS3 has more JRPG exclusives. The 360 has more Western exclusives. Basically the question is whether or not you play a shit load of JRPGs or not because most of the games, now-a-days, can be gotten on both consoles.
