Protip: Make sure your script is 100% functional before using it :(
I lost all my giveaway slots to glitched giveaways I had to delete (Support gave me 3)
Now I have 3, which isn't enough to make the train I wanted to, so I have to spam giveaways again :(

(I did this too)

if you make tests with invite-only giveaways, you can wait till they end so you don't lose slots.
don't share the links so they end up with 0 entries.

Unless someone brute-forces them.

That got me thinking about how hard it would be to brute force a giveaway.

  • There are 916,132,832 possible giveaway url's.
  • You can create a giveaway for up to a month and last month there were 100,683 giveaways created.
  • I think that means that on average you would find one active giveaway url for every 9100 url's that you tried.
  • Considering only 9.4% of all giveaways last month were invite only, you would on average have to go through 96,800 url's to find 1 invite only giveaway.

And then considering the site will temporarily IP block you for too many invalid url's, I see it very unlikely that anyone will have much luck with brute forcing.

I am certainly no math expert, so I'm not sure if all the math or the logic is correct on this.

Edit: It also looks like if we stayed at the current rate of giveaways being created, there will be enough unique giveaway url's to create giveaways for another 756 years :)

Yet we have seen people saying their giveaway was brute-forced, as they never posted the link anywhere and it got an entry. The entry account even admitted the brute-forcing.
I guess it all depends on how sensitive the site is with invalid URLs.

A couple possible explanations. Very unlikely, but someone that has access to the url's could of leaked it. Or did this situation happen before the server started IP blocking? I don't think the IP blocks started until SG started switching to new servers.

Edit: Another possible explanation would be that someone hacked the site or an admin/mod's account.

doesn't matter, the ga will be deleted since the entry was invalid.

Don't take it so hard, everyone makes mistakes and doing so is actually the best way to learn and improve.

Just be glad it's not mission critical financially linked code we're talking about here. Those types of mistakes are hard lessons to learn... but damn if they don't end up making for an unforgettable learning experience.

Yeah, this wasn't as bad as when I accidentally wiped a production database... Never gonna edit anything without backing up ever again ;_;

Data loss can teach so many things. Like, for example, keeping a backup, a shadow backup and a tetriary backup of all the documents one makes. I love my sync software. ♥

I'm more than sure one day soon you'll get it right.

Tell that to someone that makes 100+GA trains. I hope they don't manually enter all the info.

Didn't someone recently make a 500 GA train? Wonder how they did that ;_;

At the beginning of the year there was a 2016 GA train, but it was compiled by several people.
