Have you ever played a racing game with records and ghost cars?

The thing is: that ghost car represents the record for that track and it appears every time you play it, representing the current best time for that particular track.

The person who wrote the original comment saw the video and thanked the filmmakers :)

he also said he's recently been accepted into uni and is studying to be a video game designer :D

I think it's just the feeling of his dad's spirit still there with him... enjoying the race with him like he used to

..and him letting the ghost win despite beating him - was like him saying he's still holding onto his memory - didn't want to create a new ghost
