It's no secret that Double Fine is having great success with their Kickstarter to fund an old school adventure game.

Well Chris Avellone (the creative director at Obsidian) has taken notice, and is now asking fans of Obsidian for suggestions for a kickstarter project.

So you can either comment at the link posted above, or tweet @ChrisAvellone with your suggestions.

Why should you care?

Well Obsidian has made many great RPGs! In fact before they were known as Obsidian, they were Black Isle Studios, developer of Fallout 2, Planescape Torment, Icewind Dale, and a publisher of the Baldur's Gate series.

Were they to be funded on a kickstarter project it is very likely that they would be making a new RPG in the style of old-school favourites like those listed above, considering the budget allowed by a kickstarter would be suitable for such a game.

If you still have love for Planescape Torment, Fallout 2 or others in your heart, then please make your suggestion. The time is now!

Asked for a new IP. Hopefully in some cyberpunk or steampunk setting.

Yeah I asked for an RPG that is like Planescape Torment, but a new IP. I think a new oldschool style RPG would be the bomb, and it seems many others agree :D

Ya I would love to have PT's dialogue system in a modern game again. 3 or 4 'choices' do not depth make for NPCs.

Well as long as it's not another fallout, i'm fine with that, will definitely throw a few bucks their way

Indeed, the last thing I want right now is the 'post-apocalyptic' setting.

I'm extra picky about my subject matter and those types of game just aren't my cup o' tea

I wouldn't mind another Fallout, as long as it would go back to it's roots - isometric and GOOD.

I don't think Obsidian really needs a kickstarter project anytime soon. They've been signed on with major publishers before and I don't see why this wouldn't happen in the future. Hell, Fallout NV sold really well so I'm sure they've got a foot in the door.

If we're talking a fully independent project (which I doubt we'll ever see)things could get more interesting. Obesdian is in no ways a perfect developer which is shown by their often shoddy coding and poor engines; but I do respect a developer that focuses on great story telling and settings which modern gaming really seems to be looking over (in my opinion).

So after all that let's talk about what would happen if Obesdian did decide to make a new RPG. I personally wouldn't like to see a rehash of the old classics (PS:T, BG, etc)but rather a whole new IP.
Personally I would love to see a cRPG of the Dark Sun setting of DnD. I suppose you'd have to (somehow) get a hold of the ruleset/setting off Wizards of the Coast and then you'd be forced to use that terrible 4e rules (again opinion)

I do hope we'll see a new RPG released from Obsidian in the future. Something with a more oldschool cRPG feeling that Fallout NV and even Dragon Age failed to capture for me.

Theoretically their games wouldn't come out with so many bugs if they didn't have publishers forcing their game out the door... just a thought

Aye, definitely want to see more companies focus on the story, one of the few reasons I have a hardon for BioWare, if they didn't have good stories in their games I would have lost most of my respect for them when they joined EA, I can look the other way if they continue to make good games like Mass Effect.
