If you hit the reply button under a comment by a user the user you are replying to gets a notification that you answered him/her. Very useful :)

Doesn't matter either how long it lasts or how many entries you get aslong as it's public GA.
If it's for a group/whitelist you will need atleast 5 to entry if you want any CV for the GA. = )

Others have covered how much you need to give in order to level up. There is one detail worth keeping in mind that might result in some wonky contributor value, if you're not aware of it, and that's the fact that SG gets its values from the US game store, and sometimes prices differ. Space Quest collection, for an example, gives you $20 in contributor value, yet costs "only" 10€. That's because it's one of a small handful of games that's actually cheaper in EU than in the US.

As long as it gives contributor value. There are a few games that have their CV set to 0 (either because they've gone free to play, like DOTA 2, or because they're not released yet, but in the database).

There is Letter Quest: Grimm's Journey Remastered that you can enter for 0 points. It's not free afaik but there is something weird with database I guess.

You're incorrect about SG not allowing you to give away games with 0 CV. Epic Quest of the 4 Crystals is an example of a game that was giftable pre-release at 0 CV.
