What is better skyrim or witcher 3?
Skyrim.
It is waaaaaay cheaper and it's full of awesomeness.
Witcher is awesome too, but I would suggest to complete 1 and 2 first and then - whey it would be for less than 15$ - buy Witcher 3 :)

I bought Skyrim because I heard that is great game, oh, and, ah; interesting story (yes, of course) etc.
Well it's boring for me.
Witcher, hmm. I know that story is great (I haven't play 3 yet but I know 1, 2 and books).
And story is the most important thing in RPG, isn't it?
Well, story is one of the most important things for me at all.

I'm really loving the Witcher 3, but it needs some work. Nonetheless it's way way better than Skyrim, imho.
And reasons are really simple. I've never bothered to complete Skyrim's main storyline because of how boring it was, go there, kill someone, go back and that's it. Combat is boring as fuck, just spam left and right click, and drink potions in the middle of the fight. Enemies are either OP or weak, zero balance. What I like about Skyrim is the loot, getting unique items and storing them in my home, I also like first person exploring.
On the other side, combat is simply amazing in Witcher 3. But currently.. I'm not fan of the graphics at all. All people look like they're made out of plastic, and vegetation is just pure bad. And controls are having some weird delays that need fixing. A couple of more game patches and game's gonna be 11/10.

Both are worth trying, but they're very different games and it's really down to one's taste. It sounds like you'd already made your mind up before starting the thread, but since I like the sound of keys clicking:
I've played 60h of the first Witcher before giving up to yet another swamp and insane amounts of drowners and mind-numbing backtracking. It was terribly ambitious and uneven and full of bugs even after an Enhanced Edition and stupid decisions and worse writing.
I'm currently making my way through the sequel, and the first time I entered a sewer and met a drowner I almost uninstalled the game (yeah I'm that sick of the damn sewers and swamps). Well, it's got loads of ambition this time too, it improves on the first game under many respects, and it's STILL failing epically at an alarming rate, whether it's writing, game design or simple QA testing, again, an Enhanced Edition later.
From what I've been reading so far, the Witcher 3 sounds, this time too, like an improvement and still suffering from many of the same problems as the previous games, while adding new ones.
At this stage I'm a little skeptical that any Witcher game will manage to win my admiration, although judgment is suspended until I either finish or give up on 2. As for Skyrim, I hadn't much trouble putting together 225h: I haven't finished it yet and that's without content adding mods. It's not a perfect game by any stretch of the imagination, but definitely one that gave me a lot of enjoyment.

"failing epically at an alarming rate, whether it's writing, game design or simple QA testing". What??
Skyrim's main storyline is boring, The Witcher's story, lore and universe are awesome. It's a book adaptation so of course the writing is great. Can you elaborate?
Skyrim's is repetitive as hell, it has great longevity if you're willing do to the same and travel to the same dungeons over and over again. Atrocious game design. On the other hand The Witcher has great longevity (more than 230 hours of gameplay), truly interesting and diverse sidequests, different scenarios and a great game design overall. Again, can you elaborate?
QA testing, really? Bethesda games are known to be bug ridden fests, I think they don't assure quality through tests at all lol, and Skyrim is the worst of them all, there's a bug every few minutes. I am yet to experience a bug in The Witcher 3. Maybe it's your computer's fault?

Thanks for making me realize I have no taste in games and like boring, bug-ridden games whereas I have trouble playing the real cool ones, the only thing that is about within reach of my limited intellect is repeating the same task for hundreds of hours, my computer has huge problems that only emerge when confronted with the witcher games because of their incomparable quality.
I realize now the error of my ways, I am only a silly fanboi whose only purpose in life is defending some firm's perfect entertainment product from the vicious attacks of the infidels on Internet forums
Also agree that playing the same two narrative lines 6 or 7 times will net you more than 230h out of The Witcher 2, and actually I believe you can get more than 1000h (assuming you can play it 25 or more times)

Since I've finished W3 yesterday I feel like not playing this game again in the near future, Skyrim on the other hand always stays installed on my PC. 1000h+ & I still find new stuff now & then. The bugs make it unique, fun to exploit & to mess around with.

Skyrim isn't even the best Elder Scrolls.... much less best RPG. It's unbelievably awesome for modding, but that's that

Skyrim is one of my favorites, but it's 4 years old, that doesn't make it bad, neither outdated, but wicher3 is the new guy, and it sure is impressive, both are time "wasting" machines, wicher as a newer next-gen game is far more beautiful, that's why imma pick wicher 3. I hope Beth will make more TES games.

Wait, is this seriously a question? Best RPG ever? Wat? This is getting ridiculous but I'm starting to think it's mostly a kid audience saying this. Skyrim has already revealed itself years ago how monotonous and plain it is.

Implying that other games have better combat? Maybe Dark Souls, but that thing is an exception :P
True, running feels cumbersome at times, that's why I use walk mode when looting/going through tight spaces

You shouldn´t compare Witcher 3 with a game from 2011 (Skyrim).... I mean Witcher TWO was released in 2011....
I´ll wait for the E3 Fallout 4 annoucement and than it´s time to decide which studio made the best western 3d open world rpg up to date :)
