A lot of people are preordering because they liked the first. The preorder bonuses really vary. The early access equipment is stupid, undermining the entire purpose of Dark Souls by introducing an easy way to start the game. Yes, you can get it later, but you should have to earn it; the point of Souls games is that they're punishing, but fair. Preorder bonuses take that away. The soundtrack, however, sounds super appealing.

Wouldn't you have to buy the soundtrack later? If so: preorder and don't utilize the weapons/items obtained via preorder.

We dont really know how effective those early weapons would be. Or that you can start equipping them right from the start (maybe they have high stat requirement).
If thats the case, all is good. Otherwise yeah, this shit is fucked up.

I haven't heard any evidence for that, and there is a major difference between starting with a sword, or a sword and a dagger and an axe and...
Even just extra weapons of low strength are significant, and I'm pretty much certain that these are not purely cosmetic items or the devs would have tried to assuage our fears with that statement. If you have a source, link it, but I'm pretty sure they're not, and I haven't heard of anyone getting their hands on them to test in the console builds people have been previewing.

A) Nope, it's just early access to gear and some digital junk.
B) Souls has a huge following among the hardcore crowd, I don't think it is just hype.
C) Nope. Gonna play DS1 when I get the time instead.
Yeah it's not blocked for me too like the first game.

Pre order bonuses are nothing fancy. Here is a subjective video(you can check the other videos I even subscribed the channel)
I think about pre ordering and Dark Souls 2 will be my first pre ordered game.First one was port and still one of my favorite games. Why do i pre order because I will be first one to post writings(I don't remember the exact word but you would know if you played DS1) and discover that world.
PS:I won't pre order if I can't buy new computer(because I can't play it on this one. What's the point of pre-ordering then right?)
Comment has been collapsed.
That should be the case everytime. Preorder things should be total cosmetic junk, so that late buyers dont feel left out.

i like the borderlands 2 approach, people like me that wait a bit shell out a little for dlc that was free with the pre-order, i mean i loathe dlc and day one dlc in particular but if your gonna screw me at least let me choose when to buy a game to get all the content

Absolutely!
Publishers have developed that pathetic habit of offering every single game for pre-order with some kind of benefit (aka pre-order "bonus").
And many people just fear being left out, as you said. That's just a sad marketing strategy.

You know what you get for pre-ordering a game? A big dick in your mouth. (c) Southpark

Trustworthy site? I am unfamiliar.
Edit: Nvm, looks like US buyers are not supported anyway.

I pre-ordered it on amazon months ago, mostly because I had around 60$ left on my gift card. I would of pre-ordered it on steam if I didn't do so on amazon already. It is one of my most anticipated games but if it does end up sucking, well, it comes out on consoles first so reviews will be out long before the PC release.

Sadly I can't afford it right now, so I'll have to pass the pre-order

It's actually been reported that the extra weapons are total junk. By that I mean they're nearly useless and they look ugly.

I'm going to preorder simply because of the first game. I have a blackout policy when it comes to new games I want, where I avoid any and all news/details about the game. Right now, I know that it's a sequel to Dark Souls and that's it.
That's all I need to know.

Honestly I'd wait. The summer sale will hit 2-3 months after the game releases and it'll hit a 25%-50% off sale during the summer sale. You'll be able to save enough money to buy another game during that time so if I were you I'd wait. There are tons of games that you can play that will take up your time until the summer sale.

Dark Souls 2 could be considered 4th game actually. First one supposedly(never played it myself) be Kings Field, not same world but prototype for next which was Demon Souls, then Dark Souls which is more or less better and polished version of Demon Souls, in yet another different world.
And since i love both Demon and Dark souls i broke my rule not to preorder games... and for PS3 even :>

King's Field is actually a franchise. There are multiple King's Field games. Some even had PC releases, if I remember right. They all had persistent elements, like the Moonlight Greatsword (as seen in Dark Souls, other iterations had different names and functions, but similar appearance). There was even a game creation tool, Sword of Moonlight, released for PC.

didn't know they released a PC version of King's Field. Which one is?

Idk if one of their vouchers are working, but I'd wait until the summer sale. It's about 2-3 months after the game releases and it'll most likely hit 25%-50% off sale during that time.

GMG is offering $10.00 cash back or $12.00 in GMG credit.

Yes. Just got an email from them. With the pre-order you 'can choose between $12 GMG Credit or $10 Cash Back'

Interesting to see how the south american version is region restricted.....
I'll buy it when it's out. No need to prepurchase.

Russian version seem not to have onlyallowrunincountries at steamdb, it would mean i could activate russian key with RU ip or give it to a friend to activate.

I pre-ordered, because I will get an artbook, a silk map, a 30cm figurine and a steelbox.

I dunno about you guys but fuck I'm looking at DS 2 with a mix of anticipation and pure hate. I loved Demon Souls, recently got Dark Souls on Steam, but fuck, the community and fanbase is just so damn horrible.
"lelelel git gud"
Now everytime I hear someone starting to talk about anything related to Dark Souls I get the urge to punch them.

Ugh, I feel the same freaking way.. I cannot stand these types of people. They are just awful..
They are also usually the types that do nothing but cheat, abuse glitches, abuse lag (backstabbing), build their characters based on the best PVP builds posted on the internet, and use walkthroughs to show them where/how to obtain the best gear at the lowest levels. Then, they go and invade the least prepared, lowest possible level players they can (with a lot of those poor guys/girls being people that have never even played the game before, or any others in the series) and then go on their forum of choice and start bragging about it/look for posts talking about such things, then act as if they are some kind of god, and everyone else that doesn't do what they do is inferior.
Some people, including those that do such things, may say things like; "It's just a game" or "It's just the internet", but really (and this is true); They are showing who they really are on the inside. Anybody, online or in the real world, that gets off on humiliating others/hurting them physically/mentally)/or act like a damn screaming cave-man beating his chest, are just terrible people.
It really just.. ugh.. I cannot even begin to describe how much I hate these pieces of crap that act this way. I feel pissed off and sick to my stomach just thinking about them..
Why can't people just be friendly and play fair? I just cannot wrap my head around it. It's a simple thing to do, yet people still go out of their way to be complete asses to others.
If it wasn't for these types, I would actually enjoy online gaming.

When I played Dark Souls originally on PS3 I eventually learned that playing it offline was my best choice.
PVE the game is great. Bosses are fun, maps are challenging and cool, but when you got into PVP... ugh.
Between lag-stabs, Dual Magic Shield Invinc, Gank Squads, Dragon Mask Spam, and general dickery I just couldn't stand PVP. (I admit I sucked badly at it too, which didn't help, I like PVE nuff said.)
So if I wanted to co-op I'd either use someone like Solaire or had to go online for help with a boss. I did everything I could to not be bothered with the online because one part of it was broken. That meant no hints, no blood. But those were minor so it wasn't too big of an issue.
Though with all that said, I played and did JUST ENOUGH PVP to Platinum trophy the game. That was far more annoying and time consuming than grinding souls, stones, and weapons.
When I decided to re-buy it on PC I knew I was going to run into the same problem. And I did, except worse.
If theres anything I'm not looking forward to in Dark Souls 2 its PVP.
P.S. Oh and I pre-ordered the shit out of Dark Souls 2. If the weapons are meh, then they're meh. Hell I used the starting thief dagger on my main through the whole game, +15'd it too. Weapons in that game aren't always like other games where things you pick up later are clearly better.

I really love the idea of the PVP in Demon's Souls and Dark Souls. It adds a lot of suspense to the game because you just never know when somebody might come invade your world. Once you saw that message.. your stomach just drops, and it's like "Oh, boy... Here we go..".
But, the majority of those that invade (at least in my experience), they killed it, because for them, it's not about putting up a fair fight, or even a challenge for the other player. No.. They do whatever they possibly can to purposely ruin the experience for those that they invade. Their goal is to make themselves feel superior, and to make you feel awful and like you never want to play any game ever again. It totally ruins the intended experience.
I love these games, but I am not looking forward to this always on PVP in Dark Souls II. Especially not on PC, where there are more people abusing things/hacking.. Things may be fine at first, but shortly after release, things are going to go downhill, and fast.. I really don't want to have to play offline, though. =/

This is the reason I hate being an invader. I try to be fair, and then hosts assume I'm trying to be cheap, or another invader comes along and BAM instant unfairness. That's why I mostly just do costume PvP (dress up as characters in the game) so that I have fair(ish) gear and try to stick to the character, with nasty tricks up my sleeves for hackers/gankers/healers or anyone else who wants to fight dirty.

I believe the weapons you get on the pre-order are simply for looks, they're a bit stronger and give you a small help at the beginning of the game but that's it. In early pvp I believe that it won't make the duel one sided due to making a little bit more damage. (I believe I saw a video on YT explaining this, not sure though.)
So, in my opinion is not worth pre-ordering, I would if I could but not on Steam. I'd rather buy it from amazon or some other store cheaper and get the box, etc. Loved the first game, will definitively buy this one as soon as I can!
Edit: Even if you don't get the pre-order, I think the weapons are still obtainable later on the game, you just won't start with them on you inventory.

Pre-ordering is always a crap-shoot, and it harms the game-publishing industry because it promotes bad practices. Even after Sim City 4 and Aliens: Colonial Marines, some people have yet to learn their lesson.

Would be funny to see all the butthurt, if DS2 turns out to be a bad game or it has been made easier to attract casual players.

Since I didn't see a topic regarding this...
So Dark Souls II is released on steam as pre-purchase and it already seems to be the top seller. Do you think the pre-order bonuses are worth pre-ordering for? Or is it pre-ordered so much because of the hype? Have you pre-ordered it or are considering doing it?
It's a good thing it's not blocked here like the first one (I suspect due to GFWL).
