I played crysis 2 without playing the other crysis and i followed the story fine. There will be time that you know are a reference to the previous crysis, but most of the plot can stand on its own.

It's mostly a new plot yeah, although the only thing i know that are the same is 1 character, nothing major

There's several years difference between Crysis 1 and 2. The only real linkage is the character Prophet. Other events are indirectly linked or mentioned.
