Awesomenauts is a great game for people that like dota-like games but want somethign more cusual. I personally got 45 hours into it and they are still updating it with new free characters at a regular basis.

You could try Penny Arcade pack if you like fun indies RPG (but without 8-bit graphics).

I am willing to give you a dota for your friend if you want too :D

or you could get fable,,, it's AMAZING XD

give those 3$ to someone who needs the money. Seriously. :)
