Can I refuse using a Steam key I won if it's sent by someone with VAC ban?

You have to activate all games won.

I think you're allowed to refuse the game, and then the giveaway creator may do a reroll.

Yup. I just rerolled one this week like that.

But why can't he accept a key from someone with a VAC ban? Is that a rule? Just asking, cause I'm not aware of it, if it is a rule.

Nah, to be honest, I'm not quite sure why he wouldn't take it myself. But he can choose to do so. Maybe he's a bit too afraid that the key was acquired illegally or something?

Ah, okay. Yeah, that's understandable. I mean there's no harm in taking the key, if the key does disappear through a chargeback or some other form, he could mark it as not received.

It's not about a chargeback. If a key you used obtained illegally your account will be in jeopardy.

Why would you? VAC bans mean next to nothing.

What are you, high? A VAC ban means someone tried to use hacks on a game so as to either scorewhore, or ruin others' enjoyment of said game. People with VAC bans are scum, fuck 'em. And yes, I do know some people get VAC bans for innocent things like using certain mods etc. That still doesn't account for 90% of people with bans. Most of them are no-good hackers. Really, fuck 'em.

As for OP's post, I for the life of me don't understand the connection between someone having a VAC ban and him not wanting to accept a key from them. Worried that the VAC ban means he's probably some no-good scammer with stolen keys / a chargeback lined up?

Not sure if sarcastic.
I meant in the context of giving away games and such.

That's not apparent from your original post. You made a general, blanket statement. "VAC ban means next to nothing", period.

True, I just assumed OP would understand in the context of the thread.

That doesn't really make sense. It would take mind-reading powers to deduce that meaning from your post, as it was so succinct and direct..

Aside from that, you know what happens when we assume, right? You make an ass out of u and me :P

Don't forget the people who got VAC-bans for enabled console on COD:MW2. That's probably 50% of the bans out there.

I look at it this way: Our government is crooked as all Hell, but I'm not going to turn down the Obama stimulus check or my tax refund check either.

He's probably worried it's somehow a bad key and might get his Steam account jeopardised, or someone who'll just do a chargeback after he activates it.

If you're talking about a giveaway, you can decline the gift. Talk to the gifter, send a ticket to support, and the giveaway will be rerolled.

I'm certain that this is not the issue, but just saying: The gifter does not have to send you a Steam gift of the game. If it's a key, it's a key.
