Should I buy Diablo III + Addon for ~40€
I'd say yes. 200 hours in Diablo 3 and no cash for expansion, which would most likely bring another ~200. Worth it's money after all the updates they've made past 1 year.

I played Diablo 2 for few years. Went on to D3 soon after release, played for few months and quit. Started playing again last year, when I got Reaper of Souls. And I can recommend the game at its present state. It feels more like "real" Diablo now, you can even compare it to D2. There are many differences of course, but enjoyment is similar. I've already spent more than 100 hours in the expansion, few of my friends, who also were devoted D2 players, spend much time in D3.
I'm by no means Blizzard fanboy, I hate WoW, quit it in 2013, and the only way you can make me play it again is by paying for the subscription. I'm not giving them a cent. But D3+Reaper of Souls is worth it. If you really love h'n's games you won't be disappointed.

^^^ This.
I played D2 from the time it was first released until the time D3 came out. D3 was prettier, but not as good as D2 LOD. With the changes they've made, however, and the expansion, D3 is finally measures up to its predecessor and is worth your time and money.

I'd say yes, I have put a lot of hours in D3 Reaper of Souls. But I know that many people don't like it that much.
But as I said, I recommend the game. Only thing that I dislike is that solo is not really enjoyable IMO.
If you can get it cheap you should absolutely give it a try!
I hope you have fun :D

it's a definite get if you are into H'N'S in my opinion. Its tons of fun and replayability. It has a lot of differences with D2, but not in a bad way. You still have to be online though.
For the ones that think it's not a good game, post here your arguments, im interested to see why you don't like the game (in it's actual state).

Play Path of Exile before buying D3. Every source I've seen says it feels closer to D2 than D3 does. It's free to play (microtransactions are ONLY cosmetics and stash space, but even the latter is only for convenience's sake because muling is legal and you can open two clients per PC with no modifications). It's got a massive expansion planned circa April (adding a fourth act and bringing supposed massive changes to the rest of the game).
I haven't played D3, but everything I've seen points to that game being a cash out on the Diablo name with very little in common with D2 mechanically. I played D2 for an estimated 5k+ hours, and I still have no desire to switch from PoE to D3.

I know there's quite a lot of hate for D3 but honestly, I enjoyed my time playing it. I started playing post-auction house and so far the game is pretty much fun to play! I've spent near to 100 hours on my Witch Doctor. I'm considering top start a new run with the Crusader. Oh also, there's a seasonal challenge or something. I didn't really get into that but if it's your thing, that's definitely a plus point!

Despite what people have been saying here. Diablo 3 has not improved at all over the years and the expansion, Reaper of Souls, has made things even worse.
The game is a dumbed down ARPG that makes the loot grind feel unrewarding and the classes are boring cookie cutters(there are only 1 feasible skill layout per class in D3 still).
You're much better off getting one of the better (and cheaper) ARPG out there, like Grim Dawn or Torchlight 2. This is coming from a long time fan of the Diablo series and someone who has put over 500 hours into Diablo 3.

How much is 'pretty cheap' and how long? I have some interest in it, but given the PS3 version has been as low as $25 (and I have a preference for gamepads anyway), I haven't bothered thinking about getting it for PC ($40 for base + $40 for expansion is just awful).
Edit - Oh, saw it on the poll. **** it, not cheap enough. :P

And I'm happy with that. :P
Provided I have the cash next sale. I missed the one last week.

yes the 360 and Ps3 versions are cheaper because those will not get any future patches and I think don't include Reaper of Souls by default.
Xbox One / PS4 versions will get patches as PC is getting it, but you still can find those cheaper than the PC version.
I bought my Xbox One Ultimate Evil edition for around 30€ new in retail, it includes Reaper of Souls.
The game was quite fun and lasted me around 60hours (I did one playtrough while adjusting difficulty throughout the game and another run on Torment II / IV only switching between those two depending if in coop or in singleplayer )
Only downside in the game is like mentioned above the need to change the difficulty all the time.
You need to start on normal difficulty, because If you do not its too hard without any equipment.
But if you don't rise your difficulty slowly whilst leveling up, the game will just become way too easy to the point where you are invincible.
Later on in the game if you play in torment difficulty, you still need to change depending if you play singleplayer or coop (singleplayer is much easier so I go to torment IV there while coop did have much stronger enemies and I only play it on torment II)
If you dont mind changing difficulty all the time its a pretty solid game and I definately can recommend it.

" I think don't include Reaper of Souls by default"
True that. For consoles you need to (re-)buy the Ultimate Evil edition to get the stuff Reaper of Souls introduced..

D3 isn't a bad game, if it's the right game for you it's fun, HOWEVER:
If you say you hated the Beta then don't bother. It still doesn't have much in common with its predecessors aside from the name.
The auction house may be gone but the always on copy protection is still a thing.
If you're on the fence try the starter edition, if that doesn't convince you the full game likely won't either.
As has already been said there's other games that manage to carry on the spirit of the old Diablo games, among them Path of Exile.
PoE also requires you to be online but it's free and is miles ahead in character progression.
If I was in your situation I wouldn't throw 40€ at a game that I initially didn't like just on the off chance that it turned around.
I know I had a lot of fun with D3 but then I also didn't mind it taking off in a completely different direction compared to the rest of the franchise, I had other games to give me more of that Diablo 2 feeling.
UItimately the decision is yours to make, though.

No, it's terrible. If I've ever thought about the worst game I've ever bought it's always Diablo 3. I could write you a whole page of reasons why you shouldn't buy this horrible game, but It's pointless. I just say you this: in every aspect you can find better games - not one, tones of them! And if you really love Diablo 2, play Torchlight II - only h'n's, which can match legend. D3 is just retard mmo-clone.

I preordered D3 back in 2012... and it's been a total disappointment for me. Yeah, apparently, things have changed since the release of Reaper of Souls, but I still don't know if I'll ever get the add-on as I'm not convinced that it'll turn the game from meh to yay for me.
That said... I would probably wait for a better price if I were you. Or I would buy Grim Dawn instead. Even if it's still early access, the reviews are really positive. Plus, if I'm not mistaken, it's the people who made Titan Quest who are working on Grim Dawn. Also, it would cost you less than D3+ Add-on.

So, Diablo III and Addon is "pretty cheap" right now and I kinda love Hack & Slash games and especially the old Diablo games.
I really hated the D3 Beta and how the game was dumbed down, the Auction House and the always online bullshit, but much has changed since then I guess.
So : buy it or not?
