The games that i like and find extremely good:
-post apocalyptic setting: fallout series.
-Might and magic 6 & spellforce series for the turn based, building and rts :) Both are HUGE games with endless hours of fun.
-SId meiyers civ series and the age of empires also for its building empires and beating up barbarians.. and the occasional annoying other civ.
-Borderlands series for shooting but also post apocalyptic setting .
-RPG: the fallout series and the elder scrolls series .
-MMORPGS: Star wars the old republic: just because of the HUGE diversity in the storylines each class has a specific main quest and side quests that are just awesome. Also server maintance is soo fast and they let you know before they do the maintenance. Most of the people who desinged the game are actually playing it whitch is fun. nice space battles :)
LORD OF THE RINGS ONLINE: just because of the HUGE scale and the beautiful design of that game. lets bash some orcs in middle earth or just do some travelling and visit all the places from the Lord of the rings :) Though there is a drawback. There are A LOT of trolls on TLORO.

Games that were great advertised (hyped up like hell) but were in fact a disappointment.

• Total war series. Well not all of them of course but total war empire, napoleon were a bit fun but not that engaging as other games... and the recent ROme 2, Yes I was one of those idiotic people who PRE-ORDERD that .. euhm game.. was totally hyped.AI is broken, when enemies attack well its ONLY 1 legion, problems with sieges of cities and walled towns( need to wait to the last man is on the ladders before they can advance ) Just look up angry joes review on youtube.

Games top look out for:
GTA5, Assassins creed 4 (arg me mateys where are the wenches LOL) , COD ghosts.

Haven't seen anything that would be even close to the level of awesomeness of this game.

For all-time favorites,I'd say Masquerade:Bloodlines, Morrowind and Bastion, though my current preferences can sometimes outweight these ones.
