he's talking about the sub genre of adventure games, usually called point and clik, not the style of gameplay

Sam & Max: Hit the Road, The Dig and all games by Telltale. I haven't managed to play any games by Wadjet Eye or Daedalic yet. I haven't managed to play many of the classic games either.

The Walking Dead, Deponia, Chaos on Deponia, Yesterday, Sam & Max Series, Back to the Future, Wallace & Gromit, Machinarium, Botanicula, Broken Sword Trilogy, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, Monkey Island Series, Gemini Rue, The Next Big Thing, The Dig, Loom and many many more.
Maybe you can try to get some classic ones like: Maniac Mansio, Zak McKracken, Indiana Jones Adventures, Day of the Tentacle, Grim Fandango, old Sam & Max, Old Monkey Island.
Serious, there are so many good point and click adventures these days. I love it!

Start with the oldies:
Monkey Island series, broken sword series, day of the tentacle, Beneath a Steel Sky, Discworld, Discworld II - Missing presumed...!?, Indiana Jones series (Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis <3), Loom, Flight of the Amazon Queen.

Some of these aren't easily bought.
If you can tolerate 320x200 graphics, Beneath a Steel Sky and Flight of the Amazon Queen are free, and available to download on the ScummVM site.
You can try The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition and Broken Sword: Director's Cut, both of which are available on Steam. If you like them there are more games in the series.

Stupid Invaders! I got that at a garage sale once. I got stuck on that game right away in the bathroom. I don't know why that game was so challenging for me as a kid...

Battlefield 3. I point at enemies and click.
No, seriously, I have no idea - maybe the Longest Journey. Lately The Walking Dead was really good but it had some flaws (still the best game of 2012, imo). Primordia was lovely but a little bit short (especially at the last stage of the game), Ceville is really funny and Botanicula has cool unique art style.

Dead Cyborg, Botanicula, Resonance in top of mind

I enjoy playing "point-and-click" adventure* games.
One I like a lot is Edna and Harvey: Harvey's New Eyes.
What are some of your favorite/recommended point-and-click games?
