I would actually say ninja-whitelisting is rather the norm and not the exception.
You see there is a certain protocol to whitelisting: When you whitelist somebody and ideally ocasionally make some WL gibs they'll usually whitelist you as well.

So when you publicly say on the forums: "He! I liked that comment of yours. I have whitelisted you for it." it can very easily give the impression you're just fishing for a return whitelist.

That's why most regulars normally do it without mentioning it.
