Yeah it also felt ages for me that it seemed to be stuck at 19000, steam purged loads of games the last months that keeps making your count go backwards, so for you it might actually be true.

With 4000 games i still knew exactly what i had, after 6000-8000 it kinda muddled.

Sometimes i feel bad that i can't immediately play a won game, or a special gift from a friend, but i am certainly hoping to become a 100 years old and see no reason why i can't play them in a future.
I mean all those people that have a library with books, most certainly won't read all the books they have either right?

I have no problems with choosing games, i got 800 games installed, but more that i keep getting new ones, and the other ones drop to the bottom of the list, sometimes i see a game in my newsfeed with an update, and then go like oh yeah i really wanted to play that too and then start the game so it goes back to the top.
It's hard to make a good dig into those installed games yeah, phsyically now it's limiting me to play games shorter then i should, i hope things get better again.
There are some top achievement hunters that really played a lot of games and gotten a lot of achievements, so it's possible.
