Congrats, and thanks!
I endorse Carlsbad Caverns, if you can fit it in between Fort Worth and El Paso.

Happy belated birthday, and congrats on level 10!
I've only been in San Francisco once, but it was really nice. The Redwoods are cool, I think you'll like them. As far as the city, I honestly don't remember what restaurants I went to, but everywhere I went was good. I thought the Japanese area of the city was really cool and fun to explore. I also really enjoyed walking around the city, thought that is not for the faint of heart or fitness-challenged. And taking the bus is way faster.

Thanks!
I need to break out a map of the major cities I'm visiting to jot down areas to swing by in. Places like Little Toyko in LA.
Anyways, thanks for the suggestion! :)

ROAD TRIP!
There are some great places on that list! I did a Yellowstone / Grand Teton / Rocky Mountain National Park trip a couple of years ago. It was awesome. Last year, I did two big road trips: one from eastern Texas to Colorado Springs (about 1000 miles) in a single day. Stayed in CS for a few days and then did the 1000 miles in a single day on the way back also. Then I did a trip from eastern Texas to upstate New York, then down to northern Virginia, and then back home. That trip took 4 driving days, 2 days up and 2 days back. (And in the middle I saw some family and friends). I would have preferred a slower trip, but I didn't have much time off from work. It was still pretty fun.
Anyway, some thoughts for your trip:
Avoid Interstate highways; try US highways or better yet, county/state roads.
If you can, set aside at least three full days for Yellowstone. Try to do a couple of planned activities, but also take some time to just drive around and/or hike a couple of trails.
If you have time to hit the North Rim of the Grand Canyon (rather than the much-more-well-known South Rim), do that. And if you're into animals at all, head up a little ways to Kanab, Utah to visit the Best Friends Animal Society.
Bring a variety of music, or at least have a way to access a variety of music.
Don't hesitate to change your plans if you see something or someplace that makes you think "hmm, that looks cool". Go check it out!
Drive the Pacific Coast Highway. Better yet -- have someone else drive the Pacific Coast Highway so you can focus on the view.
There is literally no reason to visit El Paso, TX. Avoid it. (Source: I actually took a vacation there once! Yeah. Not smart). Anyway, when you leave Dallas/Fort Worth, take US 380 W and go through Roswell, NM instead. Definitely a more scenic trip than I-20, you'll bypass El Paso, and you might even see an alien in Roswell. :)
Find someone low-key and easygoing to bring with you. Road trips can be fun solo, but they can be epic if there's someone else with you. (They can also be terrible if you bring the wrong person).
Alright, that's all I have time for right now. Good luck and have fun!
EDIT to say two things:
1) Mapquest is still a thing?! What do you have against Google Maps?!
2) I heartily endorse Carlsbad Caverns because it dovetails pretty well with my demand...I mean, suggestion...that you bypass El Paso. :)

His current plan is LA to Yosemite up 99, which is an under 5 hour drive. Going from LA up the PCH to Monterrey, then cutting inland to Yosemite would mean a much longer drive - I'm guessing over 10 hours. That would mean time spent driving (beautiful as the scenery may be) that could have been spent in Yosemite. If he adds a day for it, that would give him time for the PCH drive with one or more stops (such as Morro Bay, Pismo Beach, Big Sur, Carmel, Solvang or the Monterrey Bay Aquarium), but that would mean adding a day.
An alternative to get in a coastal drive is taking Highway 1 instead of 101. That'd add about two hours to his drive, but it would mean the drive from SF to Eureka's mostly along the cost instead of mostly inland. It would also come out of time at Eureka, which I think is easier to sacrifice than time at Yosemite. He could do San Francisco to Bodega Bay (breakfast), Point Arena (to see the lighthouse), Ft. Bragg (glass beach and lunch) and then Eureka in about 7 hours. I think that would leave him with plenty of daylight to take in the big trees and have dinner in Eureka.
He's got a coastal drive from Eureka up to Coos Bay, in any case, so having a coastal drive further south may be redundant. PCH does have a lot to offer, but ultimately it comes down to how much time he feels he can spend on that leg of the trip.

They're boring, and you're usually pretty far from small towns or places of interest.
They're useful if your only goal is to get from one point to another, but if you're on a true "road trip" where you're hoping to see and do interesting things, interstates are not your friend.

This all looks amazing! You've definitely given me a ton to work with in the planning department, and I commend you for it. I added you to thank you again personally for the time you put into thinking of all this, it's really appreciated!

I was just talking to a girl in one of my classes that told me the same exact thing. She travels alot and mentioned one of the most exciting aspects about trips like these is not to overthink or over plan it, but to talk with the locals and take an adventure looking for cool stuff in the area.

It's funny you mention Mount Rushmore, because I literally only put down Rapid City because going through that city was the fastest route back home. I didn't even think to visit MR at all. I will now though! :D

For LA, you probably want to go to Hollywood, you can go up near the sign at the Griffith Observatory. Santa Monica is nice. Venice Beach. Little Tokyo in downtown.

Hello everyone!
I've recently reached level 10 and my birthday was earlier this month, so this is a cause of celebration!
Celebrating giveaway (Level 5)
Cool, now that we got that out of the way, I need y'alls help. So, what I'm doing is planning a cross country trip for this summer. It's something I've been wanting to do for a while now and I've got everything already taken care of as far as accommodations/food/traveling stuff. I could use some help in the planning department though, as I've not ever been this far west.
Here's the route for the trip. (May load slow cause Mapquest is slow)
Here's a list of cities along the route:
The main goal of this is to visit the National Parks across this route and to see the Redwoods in the middle/northern California. Outside of that, I need suggestions/advice on some attractions to visit on the way to these destinations, as this is probably the only time in my life I'm gonna take a trip like this, so I want to make it count. So, if you live anywhere near any of these cities or are fimiliar with them, please share some advice on what to visit when I come to the area. :D
Tips and suggestions for general traveling is welcomed as well. I'm bringing books with me to help pass the time. :D
