Congratulations to level 10 and happy belated birthday!
If you are willing to take a 1ΓΓ mile detour, I would suggest to visit the Very Large Array (y-shaped radio telescope array), near Socorro, New Mexico.

Visit the Los Angeles Science Center if you want to personally see the space shuttle Endeavor (picture below). Also, there is a King Tut exhibit that recently opened.
Edit: I just remembered as a kid I found the Homeostasis room exciting because there is a 50 foot/15.24 meter robotic woman lying on the ground (picture below). The Homeostasis room is in the Bodyworks section I think.

Congrats on Level 10 and Happy Birthday!!!!!
As for the road trip...you're going to go to freaking Dallas and Ft. Worth, as well as El Paso (because you just like being close to Juarez and uberviolence? π€£) but not Houston, Austin, or San Antonio (all superior to where you're going)? Methinks that you are missing out on some of the best parts of Texas. Hey, if you change things up and make it to H-town (and assuming that I'm not travelling for work), I will come meet you personally and show you around...it's a really, really big-ass city (as in the largest in the US land-mass-wise).
Additionally, if you are not hitting Acadia National Park off of the south coast of Maine, you're missing one of the best National Parks in the country. Seriously, go there. It's gorgeous, and there is so much available hiking, you could do a different trail every day for a month and not repeat anything. Also: cheap lobster. :)

I've only been there once, ages ago, so locals will probably have much better suggestions but if you're going to San Francisco hums Fisherman's Wharf is a really nice location to take a stroll if the weather is good and eat some crabs from one of those sorta-like hotdog stands. Haight-Ashbury, which is famous for being a centre of the hippie movement, is also really cool and if I remember correctly has one of the most gorgeous parks I've ever seen (including a Chinese garden) and an amazing museum (not the one for Psychedelic Art and History) in the vicinity.
And for the LA area maybe Santa Monica Pier.

If you decide to take Hwy 1 instead of 101 north of San Francisco, I can offer advice for points along the way - it would add about 2 hours to the trip from SF to Eureka, but as I mentioned above, it makes it more of a coastal drive and has a number of points of interest along the way.
Bandon OR is home to the Bandon Dunes, if you like sand. Probably the best steak I've ever had was at the Bandon Dunes golf course (that may be too pricey, but in my case it was on the company dime). You've got a pretty long stretch in northern CA and southern OR, so I'd recommend planning a stops at beaches, parks and towns along the way so you're not just barreling through without a chance to enjoy it (though you can also make up time on I5 if you find you're falling behind - it'll be moving much quicker than 1 or 101 along the coast).
The Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum is a little out of the way, off 99W instead of I5, between Salem and Portland. It's easy to miss it, but it's surprisingly well-stocked considering its low-profile, and is home to Howard Hughes' Spruce Goose. They close early (5pm), so factor that into your plans if you go. Seattle's Museum of Flight is another option in this vein.
Up in Seattle, right near the Space Needle, is the Museum of Pop Culture/Science Fiction Museum, which has added an indie game exhibit since I've been there last. It used to be the Science Fiction Museum and Experience Music Project, started by Microsoft's Paul Allen. It looks like music (rock and roll, specifically) is still a big part of it, though with the name change they've expanded the scope to include exhibits on gaming, horror movies and comic books.
You drive right past Snoqualmie Falls when leaving Seattle. It's just a waterfall, but an impressive one and worth a little detour or side-trip while you're staying in Seattle.

Happy birthday!
Don't have any specific advice since I never did a cross country trip like that. But some general advice when it comes to trips is to have fun and to not stress out when something not goes as planned, which in trips like this tend to happen sooner or later.
Hope the weather is in your favor and you have a great time.

Happy Belated Birthday, Fyantastic!
Congrats on getting to level 10, that's a long slog...
I've been to a few of the cities in your list but I can't think of anything specific that I would consider must visit locations. (Or it would be the very obvious touristy stuff like World of Coca-Cola, the Georgia Aquarium, etc.)
I hope you'll have a great trip.

For Birmingham, AL:
Definitely visit Vulcan . If you are interested in its museum then check that out too but mainly go for the best view of Birmingham!
Other neat things around town:
Ruffner Mountain - Hiking/Nature
McWane Science Center - Neat Museum/Science Exibits
Red Mountain Park - Hiking/Nature/Ziplines/Climbing
Birmingham Civil Rights Institute - Monuments and a museum
Since you are headed to Dallas after that you will most likely pass through Tuscaloosa, AL. Take a second and look off to the right when you do and check out Alabama's stadium! (Roll Tide)

Hello everyone!
I've recently reached level 10 and my birthday was earlier this month, so this is a cause of celebration!
Celebrating giveaway (Level 5)
Cool, now that we got that out of the way, I need y'alls help. So, what I'm doing is planning a cross country trip for this summer. It's something I've been wanting to do for a while now and I've got everything already taken care of as far as accommodations/food/traveling stuff. I could use some help in the planning department though, as I've not ever been this far west.
Here's the route for the trip. (May load slow cause Mapquest is slow)
Here's a list of cities along the route:
The main goal of this is to visit the National Parks across this route and to see the Redwoods in the middle/northern California. Outside of that, I need suggestions/advice on some attractions to visit on the way to these destinations, as this is probably the only time in my life I'm gonna take a trip like this, so I want to make it count. So, if you live anywhere near any of these cities or are fimiliar with them, please share some advice on what to visit when I come to the area. :D
Tips and suggestions for general traveling is welcomed as well. I'm bringing books with me to help pass the time. :D
