Hello everyone!

I've recently reached level 10 and my birthday was earlier this month, so this is a cause of celebration!

Celebrating giveaway (Level 5)

Cool, now that we got that out of the way, I need y'alls help. So, what I'm doing is planning a cross country trip for this summer. It's something I've been wanting to do for a while now and I've got everything already taken care of as far as accommodations/food/traveling stuff. I could use some help in the planning department though, as I've not ever been this far west.

Here's the route for the trip. (May load slow cause Mapquest is slow)

Here's a list of cities along the route:

Atlanta, GA
Birmingham, AL
Dallas, TX
Fort Worth, TX
El Paso, TX
Albuquerque, NM
Grand Canyon National Park
Lost Angeles, CA
Yosemite National Park
San Francisco, CA
Eureka, CA
Seattle, WA
Butte, MT
Yellowstone National Park
Rapid City, SD
Denver, CO / Rocky MTN National Park
Atlanta, GA

The main goal of this is to visit the National Parks across this route and to see the Redwoods in the middle/northern California. Outside of that, I need suggestions/advice on some attractions to visit on the way to these destinations, as this is probably the only time in my life I'm gonna take a trip like this, so I want to make it count. So, if you live anywhere near any of these cities or are fimiliar with them, please share some advice on what to visit when I come to the area. :D

Tips and suggestions for general traveling is welcomed as well. I'm bringing books with me to help pass the time. :D

Wow. That is one long-ass trip... I love it

Not from US so cant suggest anything.. Congratz on lvl10 and birtday greetings to you :)

I love driving around. This summer me and some friends are going to Poland for a week. Thats around 1000km for us. For you guys from US it probably seems like a childs walk.. But we have to drive across 3 countries just for that :D:D

Are you going by yourself with a car ? Or taking some kind of public transportation ?

It's not particularly en route, but if you ever get the chance my cousin and his wife just did a similar cross country trip for their honeymoon and one of their favourite spots was The Angels Landing Trail at Zion National Park (Utah), their most unforgettable experience (though quite intense). There's also The Narrows (Virgin River). Basically I've heard (and seen loads of pictures) the Park is a breathtaking experience.

Hope you have a wonderful trip, sounds like you should have an awesome time regardless where you go! Happy belated birthday btw. :)

Between the Grand Canyon and Lost Angeles, you should visit the petrified forest and the painted desert

In Rapid City, the Badlands are absolutely amazing to visit. If you don't mind a bit of a detour, head north for the enchanted highway.
Also, be mindful that in the Dakotas it could literally be 100 miles through dirt roads to the next gas station, so fill up at every opportunity happened to me. when my car said I had about 90 miles of gas left, I searched for the nearest gas station, and it was 105 miles away, through a dirt road, where I didn't see any other cars or humans, and I was literally comparing my GPS to my fuel gauge hoping I'd survive

That's a huge gap between Denver and Atlanta at the end of it... but a fairly direct route takes you through Kansas City, St. Louis, and Nashville, with plenty to do along the way

Congrats on reaching Level 10! D

With the exception of Wyoming, I have some familiarity with the places through which you'll be driving. If I were taking that route, I would make time to explore the various cities and towns through which I was traveling, but that would make the trip much longer in duration. Just feel free to pause anywhere along your route (with two exceptions) and you're bound to enjoy discovering "the local scene." Those two exceptions I mentioned? Those would be L.A. (you'll learn why) and most of Kansas (where what you see is what there is to see).

It looks like an excellent trip on paper. I hope you thoroughly enjoy it. )

Los Angeles -- avoid Compton, be prepared for horrible traffic, but good food. If you're into art, I highly recommend the Getty Museum. (The Getty Villa isn't as cool.)

And if it doesn't take you too far off schedule, I'd recommend driving up the coast as much as you can instead of going through Bakersfield/Fresno/Modesto (large desert cities, very boring), so you can hit up Big Sur, Monterrey, Morro Bay and other nice coastal stuff.
