Powers in the Basement is an indie point & click adventure game, in the style of King's Quest, Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island games of yesteryear ... and it has just been added to the GOG store as a freebie game that can be added to your GOG account's library and downloaded DRM-free.

Note that this is just free, not as a limited time offer. It's also available for free on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2520280

(The soundtrack isn't free, though, and it's required for an achievement.)

Please keep in mind that [FREE] refers specifically to paid content that is free for a limited time or in limited quantity (and therefore is NOT equitable with permanently free/free-to-play content), hence the need for highlighting it with a special label (so that people don't miss out). Likewise, please note that the Deals forum as a whole is just for limited time/quantity offers, and posting content that doesn't fall within that framework spams the forum's feed on the site's main page, and can cause users to miss out on actual Deals.

Typically, content of this sort would be in a condensed thread (eg, one covering free games or one covering freebies on GOG specifically, both of which are threads that exist; Note the "The OFFICIAL Coupon Thread!" in the recent Deals feed as an example of such a thread [albeit obviously that's one related specifically to limited time discounts and therefore properly categorized] ), though you wouldn't be out of line posting directly in General (or clicking the green Open in the top right to change category to General) if you feel the game warrants the special attention.

But please, be considerate of those of us with limited time who rely on being able to see important offers quickly. I've honestly lost track of how many offers I've missed just 'cause I didn't see them in time. ..well, at least it's a break from not getting freebies because the promotional website is broken (ala Amplitude's most recent offer) or inherently BAD (ala Alienware and anything at all remotely related to Alienware's online presence). 🙄

TL;DR version: Please remove [FREE] and change the thread category to "General". It'd be appreciated!

he is right tho. we don't post every game that's free in the deals. general category would be much more appropriate, as in just letting people know that a new freebie has been added to the site.

@Sooth @Baffi - fair points. I didn't find an existing discussion thread on GOG freebie games, but apparently my initial keyword search attempt, before giving up and proceeding with writing this discussion post, was not thorough enough.

I edited the discussion post's Title and changed FREE to General.

If a moderator is reading this, I'd be happy to have it merged(?) to whatever is the most appropriate, existing, discussion thread about GOG freebie games

You almost got it right. ^^

They meant to remove [FREE] and change the forum category from Deals to General, not to put [General] in he title.
