The series went downhill after CoD4, especially from a PC gamer's standpoint. CoD 1 and 2 are the best games in the series as they were made primarily for PC. They are better gameplay-wise too in my opinion. I don't remember them having any clown car moments like CoD4 did. I never even bothered finishing the single player in 4, because of the clown car moments. I'm not a big fan of progression in multiplayer games, because it makes the games unbalanced in my opinion, so I didn't like CoD 4's multiplayer that much either. It also had the stupid killstreak stuff too, which I'm not a fan of. Those things have also become big part of the later CoDs, so they're not something I'd consider playing.

Once a year i indulge myself by buying this game. I find it very similar to action movies. You go in knowing exactly what you are getting and you should not expect more. I spend the rest of the year buying and playing much better games but Call of Duty is just the type of game you go in and relax. Easy to pick up, easy to play.
That is not saying that the game does not have flaws. It is riddled with them. Firstly it is often a rehash of the same game over and over again; this is something that plagues IW a lot more than Treyarch. Treyarch has actually tried to change things up in their games and I commend them for that. Black Ops 2 SP was actually different and tried new things that I wish Ghosts would have built upon.
The engine is extremely dated. No matter how many times you updated it, the base of the engine is still 12+ years old and it shows. The way the dlcs are monetized is also awful I believe. The price of each map pack is pretty high for what it delivers and compared to the whole package.
Lastly the community. COD fans are annoying, COD "haters" (i truly dislike this word and how it is used in everyday talk but its the best one for this situation) are annoying. The hardcore fans cannot see anything wrong with the game and will attack anyone with valid criticism of the game which does not help it at all, the comments while playing the multi is also painful (thank God for mute). The haters will take any opportunity to attack not only the game but also those playing it not seeing or wanting to understand that some may find any fun in the game.
At the end of the day the goal of a game is to provide entertainment to the person consuming it, for those who buy COD every year they are seeing that value in it and that is enough for them to buy it year after year.

Extremely big price tag, 1$=1€ logic, the same things over and over in every game, no actual improvements from the last game in the series (not even graphics), much worse than the games it's competing with, rakes in money because dumbasses keeps buying it.

I loved CoD 2 and WaW, Black ops was fun for a while. After that I quit CoD until now since I bought ghosts for the hell of it. I dont hate it but I refuse to buy it annually. Not to mention playing it all the time gets pretty boring. If I played every CoD when they came out I'd be going on for 8+ years and I dont think I can handle that.

I'm not that experienced on the series myself, only played the old WW2 games and the first Modern Warfare, the rest I know from different friends around about the story and about what they didn't particularly like.
First of all, if the multiplayer is the same as CoD4 or just very similar, then it's what sets the deal for me on never buying them, really. The game will reward the better and more experienced players with stuff like air strikes and whatnot, and I found this to be extremely unbalancing. Granted, I only played it on a few occasions with RL friends through LAN, and I lack the experience needed for it (i.e. hundreds of online hours), so I might be wrong about it. Hey, I hated CS:GO at first too, now it's definitely among my favourites.
Second, the stories seem to be focused on what makes me loathe these kinds of games, including the Battlefield series as well, and that's the glorification of war and the demonization of anything that is russian/terrorist/etc. Again, I'm judging only by what I've heard about the games, but I'm not a fan of these things. Hollywood seems to suffer from this problem, and now arguably the most popular game that exists these years focuses on that. Also, you NEVER glorify war, it's not fun. It was kind of what I felt throughout the first game and its expansion... where did that bit go?
Lastly, let's say I'm absolutely wrong about both of these, and let's say that the multiplayer is actually as good and skill-based, yet balanced and learnable as a Counter Strike match. Let's say I'd enjoy sinking in hundreds of hours into these games too. I'd still not pay 60 bucks for it. Nuh-uh. Sell me a digital copy for half a price as a base one, and I'll still raise an eyebrow. You can't justify that price even for one game with the length of campaigns the later titles have, let alone for even TWO; 5 years in between or not.
I don't hate the series though, I just don't give a flying fuck about it. The only good thing about it is that it's a gateway game, and it brings more players to the real playground here. Judging by /v/ that's a mostly unwelcome thing to have, but not by me. The more, the merrier.

i used to love cod, but if you have played it as long as I have you realise how similar the scenario in multiplayer is, lots of quickscoping clans (all think they are the best), that 1 gun in every cod that was overpowerd (usually a smg or shotgun). my favourite part of cod was the zombies, it was hours of fun but im not gonna spend £40-50 on the new cod just for that. the biggest problem I have with the franchise is the release of a game every year, that means the old versions get outdated quickly and just ignored by the creators, and that means its a hackers paradise on multiplayer.

Cod is an action movie that you get to participate in.
You're not supposed to think about whether it makes sense.
You're not supposed to be challenged in any serious way (unless you crank the difficulty).
You're supposed to follow the linear maps and enjoy the action movie-esque plot.
Cod is popular for the same reasons that "dumb" summer blockbuster action movies are popular.

I hate COD...Because they spit out a new piece of garbage each year. Everyone is like "NEW COD?! ERMAGAWD SOOO COOL OMG!" Some people only buy it because its the "Popular Series" When really it has to depth, the company is lazy, they only wan the $$$. Indie Titles are the best, like Starbound for example! They are VERY devoted to their community!

It's practically the same game ever 'new' release.
That, and everyone is an arrogant dick online.

I don't hate CoD. I just never liked shooters that much, and compound that with the fact that Activision (likely working in tandem with physical retailers) price gouges their games and rarely has good sales on them...I'll pass on CoD every time.

Ya know, seeing people bash Call of Duty can be fun, so can bashing it. But it can be annoying when people don't give legitimate reasons for hating it. So I want to know- Why do you hate (or not hate) Call of Duty? Now, I want to clarify that "Call of Duty" has 2 categories. 1. The Franchise, 2. The Individual games. The franchise includes its fanbase and would include the classic "Same game every year" reason. I expect it to be easy to bash that section. But what about the games? I want to know what makes each Call of Duty game bad. They're well made, albeit a short Campaign. They have tons of weapons, classes, maps, and game modes. So I want you to give me reasons for both. And if you can only bash the franchise, well then we can safely say that your opinions mean nothing. Here is where I stand:
I like the games. While I don't think buying a new CoD every year for $60(Prices are included in franchise), buying a game every few years is perfectly fine. I think the games are pretty fun, and I would play them when I could, just not buy them. As I said before, lots of weapons, maps, and game modes. It's addicting and fun to play with friends. The campagin can leave something to be desired, but I play it for the multiplayer anyways.
