Today I realized that I had completed 100 perfect games on Steam, so I took a screenshot and sent it to my beloved little sister (to brag myself).

Shortly after (3~4 hours) that I completed another game (Framed Collection, which I got here about a month ago and it's an incredibly fun game) and I thought "woah! 101 perfect games!?! I need to show this to my sister right now!", so when i went to take a new screenshot I noticed that Steam updated the count to... 94!?! What!?!

Has this ever happened to anyone? (ok, it's not something we keep noticing all the time, I think)

Mandatory GA here.

P.s.: And as always happens... I just got blacklisted because of this post. 😀

You must have missed the purge when steam removed counting all removed games.

The consideration of removed games aside, it apparently can also happen whenever new achievements are added to a game; At least, I've seen a fair number of posts on Steam complaining about that having happened in the past, notably following when a game added new DLCs (but set the achievements into the base game).

  • sometimes the % seen in the library filter can stay at 100%/latest % until you reinstall/restart the game (or maybe only reset steam cache)
& you can only see the real % when going on the game itself.

Sometimes Steam glitches out and counts “profile limited” games for a little while, like an hour or two, before it’s fixed.

I've had that happen before as well. Sometimes there can be an actual reason (such as what others commented already) and sometimes your profile showcases can just be glitched out. For example I have a glitched 'Game Collector' showcase which claims that I have 299 DLC, which absolutely is not the case. :P

I just made a tab in my library with my 100% games, since Steam is finicky and doesn't like a few of them. (Steam is still learning about this game, this game was removed, etc, etc...)

I have one too, but more so I don't mix the finished games with the ones I haven't started or that I've haven't finished yet.

But I think it's easier to manage the games with the help of other sites like the ones that users recommended here in this forum (take a look at the posts by hbarkas and Formidolosus below).

Hmm... good guess. I didn't notice it at the time. I'm used to using both, but I'm pretty sure I saw the change in the client.

When I turn on my computer I compare the two to see if there are any differences.

This has happened to me a few times (I think the last game I realized this was the Guild of Dungeoneering, that is a great game btw).

It's fun when these new achievements are accompanied by some new element, like a new map in the case of PayDay.

lol its god punishing you for touching yourself.

i stopped caring about achievements after a few games on steam and/or play station added more achievements. that and trophy hunting leads to turning a game into homework, with a guide/wiki at your side. or purchases of small simple quick ez games so people can earn more cookies.

But...but...the pope said that's okay now!

I don't really care about that (the achievement thing, not the touch myself thing) and I tend to describe myself as a casual achievement hunter: So if an achievement can be obtained in some fun or challenging way I can give it a try (because it can somehow make the gameplay more interesting), but if one achievement requires grinding or some exceptionally complicated method (like replaying the same game from the beginning on insane difficulty with one hand tied behind the back) well... then I'm out.

Games are about fun first and foremost.

Sometimes by "moving" a number on your profile (i.e causing it to change by completing a new game for example) you trigger the steam process by which it updates those counters and they get recalculated according to whatever the latest changes are (games getting banned, deleted, etc.). This happens in addition to the usual periodic updates that happen every interval.

I noticed the same with achievements

I assumed this could be happened. I thought I hit 100 at some point and in the time course until I got the next one the stats changed somehow (a game might have added new achievements or it might have been pulled from Steam etc.).

You could try listing a group of your achievement games by %completed and see if you have any that are now at 99% or close.

I consulted the BLAEO website when I saw the change on Steam, and there they show the second number. On completionist.me they show 98. 🤔

But I found it strange that the change occurred on Steam itself, showing different numbers in a short period of time (but the other users gave some very plausible answers for this case).

Steam Library allows you to group your games that have achievement, and to sort by % complete. That might be an easy way to see whether one or more of your completed games had more achievements added.

Yeah numbers keep changing, like droj mentioned above. Every now and then steam screws up and readds your stats from delisted games (not sure about profile limited). So like my achievements go from 17k to 54k all because of that. Then the next day it would return. So congratz on your 100 just sadly some of them are removed so it appears less

Oh, I don't really care about the "milestone" (I'll just keep playing and soon I'll pass 100 again 😀). I just used it to tease my sister because that's what brothers do, and then I thought the change was weird.

Permalink

Oh, it happens... But what I found strange is that the change took place on the Steam page itself in an interval of about two hours.

You should use this site https://completionist.me/
Useful to show you if any games get achievements added (look for 'previously completed' in the top right), but also to show you how many games you've completed, including profile limited ones. As others have mentioned Steam does glitch out between counting the 'profile limited' ones and not.
Completionist tells you how many of these there are at the top right. So in my case I have 15 'restricted' games, and my completed count then changes by 15 depending on the day. Very useful site overall if you enjoy finishing your games.

Nice stats. I bet you're cursing those 5 games that added achievements after you'd already beaten them.

somewhat, but not entirely. depends on the game and what's added. if it's (free) content, then i'm usually pretty happy about it. in the case of graveyard keeper though, they've added new achievements for each dlc released.. so i need to spend money to get it back to 100%.
for mo: astray i initially beat the game on hard mode, then they added an even harder mode with a new achievement for beating it.. so that's a headache as well. it was already hard enough.. i'm not looking forward to getting this achievement, if i ever do.

in my experience though, it's usually just some free update. this happens a lot with early access games, too.

also in the short amount of time since you replied.. it's now up to 6 games lol. thankfully it's just an update for vampire survivors (early access). in that case, i'm super happy because it's a really fun game and any excuse to keep playing it is good.

Yeah exactly. I don't mind if it's a free content update for a game I enjoyed, so Human fall flat gets a pass. Paid DLC and grindy achievements being added on a game I didn't enjoy are a pain. But the worst on my list is "Tick's tales" which after years had an update that added 2 achievements and then these were never implemented and the dev ghosted everyone. So now the game is broken and it robbed me of a game I'd previously beaten.

Dude, what a great site... Every now and then (very rarely) I used to check my games on BLAEO to see if any beaten game had changed the %.

Yeah it's my favourite stat tracking site. Great interface, plenty of ways to break down the stats and they don't have a leaderboard or anything. I'm of the opinion achievements work best when they are personal milestones and reminders of games and challenges you've beaten. Not trying to 'beat' others.

It can be shown in one of the profile customizations. If I'm not mistaken, from level 10 you can already show something different on your profile (favorite game, rarest achievements, etc.).

Yeah, Steam clears out a lot of games that they feel haven't met rules, especially older cheevo spam ones. At one point, I had something dumb like >300,000 achievements and I was at like 400+ perfect games. That plummeted dramatically about 1.5 years ago...and frankly, I'm ok with that, because a lot of it represented garbage games that I won on SG, and so those things were inflating the stats pretty badly. There is likely some decent spam in my current stats, but they're a lot closer to actual reality at this point. Well, except that they're not, because I've 100%ed a bunch of other games legitimately, but since a lot of those are in a "profile features limited" state, I don't get any credit for those. So, technically, I guess my current stats are a bit low or, worst case, the lack of credit for games I completed perfectly balances out any remaining spam in there. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

And hey, you have a good giving ratio. Here's a whitelist to balance out whoever gave you a knee-jerk blacklist. 😎👍

I think at some point we all realized that it's not worth accumulating junk games (I realized this when I found the BLAEO website and noticed that I had several games that I won at SG that I would never play).

Thanks for the blue heart. You've been on my whitelist for a few years now, because of a comment made on another of my posts. 💙

That perfect game tab doesn't work properly for anyone. Everything showing with no achievements has achievements. The games that actually don't count because they're removed or in profile features limited mode aren't in the list at all. Mine would be twice as long (at least) if those things were showing. I also suspect that there are other perfect games that actually do count toward my total that aren't showing up in that list. I mean, why would Steam be consistent in the way that they calculate and present their data? 🤪🤓🤣

Yeah, that reminds me that it's not even really possible to get a definite answer to the question "How many games do I own"... Which I even further complicated by accidentally forgetting to stop the "Add free licenses" script on steamdb -_-

"blacklisted because of this post" That's something I will NEVER understand. Why blacklist? Seriously. I have a few people in my blacklist, but that's people that have clearly broken the rules or acted really bad.

Anyway, here, have a blue heart from me as a little compensation

Hm, ages ago there were a few extremely trolly posts that actually got me to blacklist one or two people for their posts, but that can't be it in this case.
The only other cases where I could vaguely use "blacklisted for a post" to describe what I did were cases where people wrote stuff that made me take a closer look at their profile and notice that they clearly broke some rules or were abusing the system in another way. But this does not fit this case either.
Something I've never done but that I think has happened to me was people being annoyed with posts containing GAs with limits they did not like, i.e. too high level, overly specific sgtools rules, annoying puzzles, etc. Another thing that does not fit here.
The only other idea I have could be that someone considered this bragging? Which it isn't and even if it were would be okay by me. Or maybe people are just weird, who knows... 🤷‍♂️
