The guy who called in still hasn't been found. I hope he does and gets charged, seems a bit too over the top for a prank. Makes for an interesting news story though.

Until someone gets shot over this.

Yeah would be real funny if someone got hurt in the process right? Imagine if someone got shot in the scenario which could very likely happen if a person is oblivious to the cops even being there.

It's not funny at all. Someone may eventually die or have their life ruined because of this. Police and SWAT have been known to shoot and kill innocent people during mistaken home entries. Just recently I read about a guy who was shot and killed when the authorities went to the wrong house by mistake.

I can't find the article I was reading before, but a quick search yielded a few related results.

http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2013/07/robert-farago/wrong-house-raid-cops-kill-texas-homeowner/

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/05/25/jose-guerena-arizona-_n_867020.html

edit: ah shit. the last one is a 404. I think because the board changes underscores around text to italics. let me see if I can find an alternate source.

edit2: http://abcnews.go.com/US/tucson-swat-team-defends-shooting-iraq-marine-veteran/story?id=13640112

edit3: hmm that jose guerena case does seem a little iffy. there is a wikipedia article on it as well if you care to read that.

I find it amusing that the kid was oblivious of the swat team for 20 minutes before noticing.

Im honestly the biggest cod nerd out there... but to lose and call the swat on the kid... well that just takes it too far xD

I hope they find out who he is, make him pay for the cost of what he caused and give him some jail time or juvenile whatever it's called or something. This can't stand!

0.o Just... wtf?! I've never heard of swatting.

It's actually quite the common thing. For example popular streamers even have to notify their local police because they get swatted or anonymous "disturbance" called often.

If there was any truth to it, the police could "trace the IP" from the Skype call and find the person who made the false report!

Someone should bring that up to the office who made the statement and watch them stumble over their own words.

LMAO! A two-hour standoff??! ok, so the kid had his headphones on, what exactly was his mother doing for those full two hours? she never heard the sirens, least of all the microphone used to call her son's name to come out?

Maybe that's why it took 2 hours? The offer of a duet of "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" with the Sergeant simply wasn't enough to prise the victorious squeaker away from his beloved COD...

Swatting is nothing new and if you're dumb enough to give your home address to randoms on a video game, then you probably deserve a wake up call.

The person called in and said "I just killed my mother and I might shoot more people" and gave the victims address.

What exactly would saying "I'm actually TrIcKsHoT420!" do for the kid? They have no clue what the situation is until they clear everyone out and take a look through the house. For all they know, he could have made the call himself and is attempting to blame someone else for it.

Could you imagine if all it took to make the police leave was "Don't worry, I'm not the person you're looking for!" like you seemed to suggest?

Guys guys guys, it's not the game, it's the parents fault!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah it's the parents fault for letting the kid buy the game :p

No but seriously, parents do not give a shit what their kids are doing and generally let the TV or computer or video game console act as a babysitter, so the parents are definitely to blame for this. But the kid who did it is also responsible, so let's not forget that.

He'll get a lot more than that when he's found... Hopefully some jail time.

He cost the city a lot of money with this pointless "prank"... >_>

Kids like this need to learn that the world doesn't revolve around them.

The guy who called in must be killed or shot in the head. That'll teach people a lesson should they do the same trick in the future.

Permalink

yeah, totally good idea. and everyone who makes stupid forum posts, should also be shot in the head. and that guy who took my favorite seat in the bus this morning? they should definitely put a bullet in his head!

I'll be a bit lenient and propose a direct shot in the heart.

Though I believe in the head means insta-death. Or so.

This story seems like total bs. A 2 hour standoff? against who? It also says they "rushed in more than 60 officers with weapons drawn" and then says "Cops tried for 20 minutes to call Rafael and get him to come out, but he had headphones on and was still glued to his video game console." Yet “He didn’t realize anything was going on, he couldn’t hear anything,” his brother said. “I told him that there’s a bunch of cops outside that are looking for you.” So... the cops get a phone call saying he killed his mother and brother... so they stand outside for 2 hours and NO ONE in this house has any idea yet they let his brother go in and tap him on the shoulder to get his attention???
