I have returned! Finally.

SpeedTest time
Old was capped at 150GB a month (shared, so I got 75GB)
New is uncapped

Urban Trial Freestyle was currently the only game in my inventory, but I'll see about getting my hands on some other stuff when I can farm cards that popped up in the last month.

Past posts

I need a new ISP, hate that this keeps happening.

If I win any giveaways, use this as a reason for a reroll. Not sure when things will be back up.

If you are in the Summer Madness group and win my giveaway, it might be a while before delivery. I'll do my best.

Not sure when I'll return, don't have a PSP collection to sell off this time around.

Cellphone browsers are not fun, and I need to walk in the rain to use the library WiFi. So don't expect updates until I can pop up with a few hundred or whatever my ISP wants. Really wish they would offer what I want. A cheaper cap.

Alright, since I have a couple of dollars to spare, I can go to the library to deliver Gauntlet to my winner, and also accept any wins I might get if lucky with the Summer Madness event. Yay.

Got the equipment, but won't get some setup details until Monday. They create my account at the expected arrival date. Guess I can wait two more days.

So, on my first call to my new ISP, I had to correct my address, since the call guy thought I was in a different part of the country.

Secomd call, turns out correcting him didn't work. Still entered the wrong address. Corrected it again.

Got a package with the gear. Turns out I still need a tech to set things up.

Today the tech calls to see if I would be home. Said yes. Got to waiting. Half hour later, tech calls to ask where I am, since the house was unoccupied.

Yes, they sent the tech to the wrong address that I already corrected twice.

So, now I'm waiting another week for a new tech. I'm in a poor mood.

Tech showed up today. Set stuff up.

Connection not working yet, but was told it might just take a few hours for everyone to do their stuff on the other end. So hopefully I'm back tonight.

Tech didn't submit their paperwork. I have nothing until they do. >:(

I need a new ISP too, shame all I can pick is Bell or Rogers, two of the worst ISPs in Canada.

That's a monopoly joke for you non-Canadians.

Stay safe Delta.

Try coming higher up north. I have a choice of 2 ISP, both owned by Bell Aliant. They have the exact same pricing plans an policies. And the same tech support people answer for both companies. Now talk to me about monopoly again.

Good ole Rogers.... I had a cellphone in with them not contract just pay like so much a month can cancel any time, so that was a year ago. So I get internet, goes good for a few months, till last month. They are like Oh hey you owe us for that cellphone! Never signed a contract and they are like well you owe us 1000$ for breaking the deal, and where like.. oh yea by the way your internet is getting shut down if you don't pay in 5 days! Have a good day! So, now I am with Start Communications.

Don't you have Telus and Shaw as well? We have all 4 here in British Columbia. Not that they're really that much better. Telus I don't like for being dick bags. Currently with Shaw and they're alright. Not fantastic. But okay.

Vodafone NZ. They have tiny cap and low speeds or less tiny cap with high speeds and higher cost. Not a fan, but they still offered the highest cap here.

I'm not sure about the speed, but they (like pretty much every other ISP now) have an unlimited plan.

I get 100/100 for free ... I'm happy to live in a country were high speed internet is not only reasonably priced, but also common and data caps are something people laugh at. Thanks to a healthy market I suppose. At least EU did something right.

Much as I hate our internet, I'm not moving to another country over it.

That costs money I obviously lack.

I understand the cap thing.
$66.00 month is horrible at this speed @ 2TB cap
I just point my yagi antenna to free wifi hotspots if my isp goes down, and then they get a nasty call... 24/7 always on ...ya right.
Anyways good luck!

This is something I feel lucky to be here in Vietnam, where Internet is considered one of the cheapest in the world. We have unlimited packages for just about $10-$15/month with no data cap. Of course the speed is not so amazing, but still good.

American ISP's overcharge for what they offer. I know the feeling and it's total BS.

I'm paying nearly $100/month for 15mbp/s download and 1.5mbps upload. So only a couple hundred KB upload and 1.8MB download(of which I only get 1.6MB download). I don't even have a TV, but if I didn't get the cable bundle it would be over $170 just for this 15/1.5 internet. Although the 250GB monthly cap is semi-reasonable, I guess. I just can't download too many games per month. Not like they give you any way of tracking how much you've used per month... Which is how people can easily go over monthly caps.

Anyways, best of luck to you in getting internet again.

Use something like Network Meter. Gives you a visual of your cap and current usage etc.

That's fucking outrageous. How can there not be alternatives? I can't believe there isn't any other options. In a town in the West of Ireland, there are about 4 or 5 different ISPs available to a town of maybe 3000 people. And this is one of the least densely populated counties. I can't believe there aren't smaller companies available in the US.

i have been paying $104.00 for five years . 50mbp/s download and 15 upload.. Every time they try to increase it . . i call them to cancel it as i am interested in going to another provider . . ..they re-initiate the promotion to keep me as a customer.

Comment has been collapsed.

Call them, say that you want to cancel the service. Wait for the first call, when they make you a deal, reject it. They will call you a second time, with a better deal. It is always like that, in almost every country: They will offer you 2 deals, and of course, the second is the best.

At least lack of internet at home is letting me work on my game and book backlog. Beaten Bastion and Escape Rosecliff Island already, and knocked out 10 of the Endworld series of books. Only 5 left though, and then I'll be short on reading material. Bah.

Also been playing with RPG Maker, putting together some horribly unbalanced game that is sure to suck. Hopefully I can upload what I've made soon.

If you're looking for more reading material, I will happily recommend The Long Earth/War/Mars by Terry Pratchett & Stephen Baxter. It's about the discovery of travel to parallel universes, and it has both the whimsy of Pratchett and the hardcore sci-fi of Baxter.

I don't know if it was a limit or just a bug, but in my case when my Internet went down like a year ago, Steam Offline mode "went off" after 2 or 3 weeks I think.

It's a bug that was fixed recently. It should be "good" for about 6 months now. They are also working on it to keep it up for longer than that even.
