Steam tags I hate, whcih is what the OP reminds me of even though I'm running a bit off-topic here on a tangent.

  • Anime - If it is not an actual anime, based on an anime, or has an anime based on it, it's is not related to anime AT ALL. The words you are looking for are "Japanese art style"

  • Story Rich - WTH does this even mean IN CONTEXT. I know what the words themselves mean. Many games have stories, the tag is meaningless

  • Singleplayer - First off this is not a word, it's two "Single Player", and is completely worthless as a search tag on Steam, 99% of games have a Single player mode on Steam.

  • Great Soundtrack - Says you. That shit is entirely subjective.

  • Difficult - Same thing. Maybe for you and not someone else.

  • Female Protagonist - This shouldn't be on any game where you can randomly pick a female character, like fighting games, but it is.

  • Funny - Subjective once again

  • Nudity - 75% of the time or more the games with this tag don't have any and are just being trolled by peopel whom hate VN's.

  • Education - Do you mean "EducationAL"? WTF.

  • Sexual Content - See: Nudity above.

  • Replay Value - No, I almost never replay a game twice there it has none, no matter what it is Therefore subjective yet again.

  • Illuminati - This one can just fuck the right off. Troll elsewhere like 4chan.

There's plenty more, but that's enough for now.

Language changes. Get over it. It evolves. It lives past the people using it. There is no such thing as language decay.

Feel free to rail against it, it'll move on without you.

Now you're just that old guy complaining that people are using You instead of Thou ;)

Wait, no scratch that. People are using English instead of French/German/Welsh/Dutch....

Oh wait... Sorry. I'm getting too academic here.

Argument by analogy isn't a necessarily a strawman. If an apt analogy makes you look unreasonable, then you're unreasonable. Is there a principled, relevant difference between insisting others use 'thou' and your insistence that others use 'fewer'?

Actually, 'you' seems like a perfect example of replacing clear language (of the sort found in the informal register of many Romance languages today, e.g., 'tu' in French and Spanish) with ambiguous language (as with 'you' in English, which can be singular or plural, necessitating constructions like 'you all' and 'you guys' to distinguish singular from plural uses). If anything, 'you' is more ambiguous than a construction such as 'less people', which is almost impossible to misunderstand.

So I still don't see why the analogy isn't appropriate.

The quality of your shitposts is declining. 🙂

'un-' is reversing. 'non-' is 'not'

It's unattainable, not non-attainable.

Wouldn't you say our word choices are atrocious? I mean, assuming you're referring to an overarching gross misuse of multiple words and not a specific instance where a single word is used incorrectly.

Also this song comes to mind, especially the 'less vs. fewer' bit.

So, I feel like the key components that make Rogue what it is (and yes, I have played the original) are the procedural generation and the permadeath. Grid-Based and turn-based is just the form it took. Naturally, the first iterations on the formula took on a similar form, but as the genre gained a wider audience, it was adapted to more forms. Eg. the FPS roguelike and the side-scrolling platformer roguelike.

By contrast, the rogue-lite is defined by having an rpg-like or other progresssion system that transcends the permadeath nature. I.e. each time you play, some factors are carried foreward making each successive game progressively different (typically easier), not just randomly different. Whereas in the standard roguelike system you are forced to start from scratch in every playthrough.

Rogue-like is a game like Rogue.
Rogue-lite is a game that takes mechanics like procedural generation and permadeath and does something different with it.

Let's start using that correctly.

This reminds me of a joke that a comedienne made about the usage of "fuck". She stated, "Why do we use "Fuck you, buddy!" when we want to tell someone off? Wouldn't it be more appropriate to say "Audit you, buddy!"? I mean, fucking is something pleasant while having the IRS on your back is not!" (paraphrased since I couldn't find the original on YouTube or Google)

Someone sent me a link that suggested you might be qualified to join this group. That made me chuckle almost as much as "Audit you, buddy!".

When we begin to take ourselves too seriously, life becomes intolerable. Consider this for a moment, ambidot...and then maybe go hunting for your sense of humor since it appears that you've left it somewhere.

I agree that finding deeper meaning and understanding of our fellow human beings and indeed, the world at large, is important. but when we fail at being able to laugh at ourselves, then that search is futile... humor is one of the key things that makes us human. Anyway, thanks for your considered response...
