You got me with Q2. It's a pity that Nadal lost, his body just can't endure his style of play anymore.

Was Q2 really that hard? Sorry, It wasn't meant to be :-/
Well his body seemed quite intact at the Swiss Indoors. But of course it is clear, that his style ist taking much more out of his body compared to the style of i.e. Federer. But that makes it even more impressive that he seems to come back yet again.

It wasn't hard, it's just an issue of a non-native speaker. :)
Yeah, it's impressive that Nadal is still competitive, but I don't think that he'll be able to play at his prime ever again. It remembers me of Guga Kuerten.
You think that Federer is the best player ever?

Yeah, and then it all is created by a non-native speaker, what makes everything even more complicated :)
It's gonna be hard for Nadal to return to his old greatness. He hasn't gotten any younger and there are much more great players around today than there were some years ago (Djokovic, Murray, Wawrinka).
But yes, I think that Federer is the best player ever even though I find it kind of hard to compare a sportsman with others from other eras, because most sports change in some way. It's the same for me in football. Is Messi or Ronaldo better than Pelé or Maradona? That's kind of incomparable.
But still: The numbers speak a clear language. He holds so many records and he was dominating tennis in general (with the exception of sand) for so long that it is simply amazing and hard to find any other similar dominances over such a long period of time in any sport.

I'm inclined to agree with you and you can't ignore stats, but there are types of performance that you won't measure in numbers. IMO Pete Sampras was the tennis GOAT because of his talent and the high qualified opposition he faced during the 90s. From Ivanisevic to Agassi there were different threats all over the season to deal with. He didn't have that many trophies as Federer, but the scenario he played in made his trophies more valuable.

That's what I mean with "it's difficult to compare". :) I think Sampras is definitely one of the greatest as well. There are pros and cons for every of the very big stars, but in the end, it is a matter of personal evaluation and taste which player to see as the greatest ever. Soit's a good choice to give Sampras the attribute of GOAT. Is he really better than Federer? Well that we only can speculate, because nobody can proove his opinion.

That's right. Anyway it's always nice to have a good conversation about tennis, thanks for that!

Ok, so here's the deal. I had some very cat-astrophic days speaking in SG-manners. On saturday I had a job interview that went very well. Today I preached at church on a very challenging topic in a pretty unusual way. This went well too. And then I went to my hometown to meet with a friend and watch a tennis match live in the stadium for the very first time. And it wasn't just any match, it was the finals of the Swiss Indoors, a ATP World Tour 500 tournament. By that I not only got the chance to actually see Roger Federer playing live, one of the best players this sport has ever seen. play live. His opponent was Rafael Nadal and so I got a final with two players that are thought to share one of the most epic rivalries in sport at all. And on top of that, they both played an awesome match, with the perfect winner.
And as if all of this wouldn't be enough already, I had an absolutely major win-streak on Steamgifts with nine (!!!) wins within 3 days.
So yes, the cat was very, very nice to me on Steamgifts and in real life. And therefore it's payback time! I created a cat-astrophic thankfulnes train to share my joy.
To better keep out greedy people without any care for the reason of my giving you have to answer 5 very simple questions.* They're all easy to answer by reading my explanation and with one little and obvious googeling. Users on my wishlist or from the groups "Positive Thoughts" or "German Giveaways" can access the train directly by using the ticket in their exclusive Giveaways.
Here you get your ticket to the train.
The train is on its rails until next Sunday and starts low with Lvl 0 and goes up to Lvl 4.
* the questions are intended to be simple. It is not a puzzle! If you're stuck nevertheless or if one of the answers/questions is too unclear, please write a comment! For help with Q2 (especially if English is not your mother tongue) refer to this comment for help
