Yet another reason to not get yourself hacked.

Edit: Despite word "permanently" it seems to be possible to restore (at least for limited time).

Click in steam on your name (at the top right) -> accountdetails -> show licenses and productionkeys (it´s not my main language so i don´t know how it´s called in real) -> if needed you can use ctrl+f to find the game that you want to delete faster and now you only need to click on delete and that´s it.

Do these removals refund your account if you do them within the 2 hour window? If not, I don't see the point in removing a game since you can just hide them from your library.

Removal is not refund. Ask for refund if you want your money back.

There is a temptation to remove a game where I have 1 of 300+ achievements...to maybe increase game completed percentage...but naaaaaah

I don't think this actually removes your achievements or affects your completion percentage. If it did, I'd be overjoyed and would immediately remove a few games.

Oh well that removes any temptation on my half then, not sure I would've done it though.

Baron is right. Steam still keeps track of your playtime, card drops and achievements even if you remove a game.

Please remember not to remove any SG wins. You risk a suspension if you do so.

Here I am. I'm very, very sorry but, in a total unintentional way, I removed a game that I didn't remember I won here, the game is RobotEX. I've already hidden all the giveaways for that game, just to clarify that it was not to win another copy or sell it. I won that game a long time ago and I really didn't remember it; I don't know if there it's a way which can allow me to repair that, and if I deserve a suspension, I'll take it, but rest assured that it was non intentional and was not for abusing purpose. Anyway, here I am, if I need to be punished, because in a site like this rules are important.

Why did I remove that game? Because I figured out that I never played it, the win was totally random, it was the beginning of my journey on this site, and I entered all giveaways, not only the ones I was interested in. And believe me, I really didn't remember that win.

I wanted to post this in a sort of private message, so that we can discuss without disturbing other users, but that's all. I hope you will understand :)

EDIT: was able to restore it, nothing changed, thanks steam support :)

if you buy a game why would you remove it from your account, sounds pretty useless in all honesty, but I guess some people have games they don't want others to see.. I wear my barbie dream house, and DIsney Fairytale princess games with pride..

The same reason you'd sell a used DVD or book, but in this case you cannot sell the game. Because you thought it was good and it turned out to be not good. And with so many 90%+ sales, the instinct purchases are abundant, are so are the regrets over them later.

If you could really erase them, then you could just buy a 17-cent game from a 96% sale, idle for cards, remove it, buy again, idle for cards, and so on. It would be small, but tangible profit. Multiply it by the tens of thousands of accounts some Chinese and Russian groups hold, add on some automatated script, and you have a way to make actual money for nothing from 5-cent cards.

The only game I wanted to remove is Dear Esther and apparently it came with a big pack of games that I love, so I can't get rid of it since you have to get rid of the whole package.

What if this is a precursor to allowing games to be given away from your account or traded, or sold in a secondary market? That'd be cool. And yeah, would never happen, I know.

did they put the option for remove a game from my statistics and delete the achievements? like really totally remove a game from the account?

Permalink

No, they cannot edit statistics, so all stats remain. And even if you use SAM to remove the achievements, they will still count as 0% to your total.

It can beneficial too, from a certain degree. Usually anything over 95% is thought to be achievement cheating, and now I am almost surely to stay in the 91-93% range all the time. :)

Is my understanding correct that it will remove the game license but the Stats (time played and achievements) will remain? Because I'd like to be able to wipe stats clean more than I want to remove a game.

Useless feature IMO.If one activates/buys/wins the game..it means that at one point they wanted the game. And it's stupid to delete games from your account, since most games can have cards which means profit from the game even if it's terrible and later on booster packs. The only legitimate reason I see for this is to remove REGION LOCKED games or CUT versions of games.

But this feature will 100% generate more problems than solve.Since now hacked accounts can get from 1000 game count to 0.

I'd say a mix of both with the first one being a larger factor.
On a related note: you are lucky it was implemented now. Removing that large list one by one, by yourself… that would have taken some time.

I wonder though… can you really remove game-by-game basis? I saw it accessible from the purchases window, and it still thinks in bought licenses, packages or games.

Yeah, I know. I too, had my rounds with them with game removal, this is why I would be surprised if you could now remove games from packs. That would require the restructuring their entire database architecture.

My first thought: AWESOME! I did some mistakes by activating free games I'm not interested in (I'm not the classical collector, even if I have... a couple of games ^^.. but I want a clean library). Now the question is: I won The Slaughtering Grounds here on SG. I want it to be gone from my account so bad but then the SGTools checker will show it as I haven't activated it, right? Btw: when I won this game, it was during a time I didn't know I have to activate games I win (I learnt that on the same day as it was some Groupees Chat private giveaway event and people were mentioning it there).

I will definitely make use of it and remove some games, it's just sad I will need to have to have Slaughtering Grounds forever on my account it seems :/

yes http://www.steamgifts.com/go/comment/2RtwQxa

you can contact the GA creator, give him a key/gift for that game, and ask for a reroll or giveaway deletion.
only way to remove it safely from your account.

Comment has been collapsed.

It's probably going to be a pain as I won it from someone with close to 10.000 giveaways but thank you for the advice. So it is possible to reroll even if the giveaway ended over half a year ago? Giveaway deletion is not possible as 35 copies were given for that game..

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

as far as i know the reroll will be possible only if the ga creator agrees since you need to give back the game you won.

if you are interested you could send a support ticket asking what to do in this case, i'm just repeating what i read here. :3

Oh, you've been to the Groupees chat that day too? Wasn't that a blast??? XD

I must admit, in hindsight I wish I wouldn't have won some of those games too and wish I could just remove them.
Carlmundo is a nice guy, maybe he'll reroll if we provide him with new keys. But we would have to get them somewhere reliable, that means we might probably have to buy them and support those devs ... meh.
