If you consider buying doom 3 during the gmg sale, you may prefer to buy Doom 3 and its expansion rather than the BMF edition. The reason is that Doom 3 BMF cant be modded, while the oldest version can.

Oldest version and expansion=cheaper price and mods.

apparently the BFG edition has some graphic changes.. the flash light is permanent..

Me im planning on getting all of them and the BFG version even though i own the physcial disk of Doom 3... unsure if the cd key will work though?

The FL is permanent? That was a significant gameplay feature.

Wiki says: "The BFG Edition also features the ability to use the flashlight while holding a weapon".

That is true, its now a feature of the gameplay now in the BFG Edition.

I just prefer the hardcore style on Doom 3 also if BFG Edition has graphic improvements.

Yes, get the original games. If you can deal with minor .ini tweaking (for resolution) and can use sikkmod + wulfen texture pack, the game literally looks next gen (except for the polygons), compared to BFG edition, which is a lazy port where they turned on the lights too high, has no graphics options except for motion blur and AA (and the updated graphics are basically a lie), and has a shitty flashlight mod that breaks immersion a lot.

I agree with the flashlight breaking the immersion, it added some fear to the game to have to back up while switching to a weapon before the Imp gets you, as opposed to BFG's "shoulder" mounted flashlight where you can illuminate and blast at the same time, otherwise, i like that the BFG edition comes with all or most of the Doom games in the BFG menu.

Or be dumb like me and buy both! The BFG edition does include a very short narrative that was added. Worth $5 to any big fans.

I bought a retail copy of Doom 3, then got a Steam copy, and bought the expansion, THEN i got the older games, and finally BFG was released! And i couldn't pass it up

Same here except I also have a retail of the expansion. So...yeah...Rust (360) and Quake 4 retail and soon to be Steam if the sale goes my way. Id owes me a lot of money.

Jah, i have all the Quake too except for maybe a few Quake and Quake 2 expansions but only Q4 retail and Steam.
I also have a retail copy of Enemy Territory which, i believe, was on Steam.(Code doesn't activate on Steam)
I think id and I are about even as far as dollars spent and fun had.

lol. Hell, now that I think about it, I've bought Doom 1 and 2 numerous times...and Wolfenstein for that matter. Lets just not speak of this ever again.

Haha, agreed.
Though reminiscing has made me remember the "Ultimate Doom" or some kind of a box set that was updated with a windows 95 interface launcher that i got for christmas when i was a lot younger, i guess adding that, id DOES indeed owe me a bit of cash ;)
I have only bought bought 1 RTCW though..

I have every id game on Steam except Commander Keen and Quake 4. And I have Quake 4 retail, don't really care too much about playing Keen. I really need Q4 CD-Key support pls.

I would be pissed if they added retail key support for Quake 4 since the fact that they don't led me to buy it on Steam. Enemy Territory on the other hand...

Commander Keen is was a wonderful game. Not sure how well it holds up if you have no nostalgia attached to it.

I think there was a demo for Commander Keen on the Duke3d CD i had roughly 18 years ago though i can't specifically remember, but considering i had Duke, there was nothing else of interest on that disc, oh, except for a little top down shooter called....Raptor? i think...

Steam tells me the only id game I don't have is The Scorchers DLC for Rage. Looks like I better pick that up to complete it all. Just bought Wolfenstein The New Order this morning, though...

In fact, checking the Quakecon 2014 Bundle, looks like The Elder Scrolls Online and the Imperial Edition Upgrade are the only 2 things I'm missing.

Also, the Commander Keen games are spectacular. However, I have a large amount of nostalgia towards them, so there's always that :)

Not dumb. Not dumb at all. I have each individually on Steam as well. Also bought Doom 3 and RoE for PC back in the day, as well as both for the original Xbox. I never knew anyone else with these games for that console. Sounds like you're a huge fan as well. Maybe you did, too?!

I system linked two XBOXs in my living room to play Doom 3 Co-op. Had a great time with that. I still can't believe they never released it on PC.

you mean Co-op? there is/was a Mod, but it was buggy as hell, haven't searched for or used it in a year or two so maybe it still exists and is improved

XBOX version had a custom Doom 3 co-op campaign that could only be played through system link. It was sweeet. Here's a link to a playthrough if you missed it.

For the premier Doom 3 experience, yes. It has higher res textures than Doom 3 BFG by far.

If you care about "fun" mods, then get OpenCoop or Hexen: Edge of Chaos.

What I like about the original doom 3 is that the flashlight is separate and not attached to your body, it makes the game more tense, and I guess more frustrating!
