Just got Steam's message about this game releasing today, it looks pretty cozy, if anyone's interested :D

I always considered Calico as the game-pet of the Cozy Corner.
We should make a group only for Calico. To enter, you must either have Calico either in your library or wishlist. And only Calico giveaways exclusive to the group are allowed. Thus eventually all Calico lovers will get the game. Since I got Calico the first time, I've got it four times again, all giveaways here.
That said, the total playtime of my 3 Calico winners (the fourth giveaway still not finished) is 59 minutes. That's 6 times more than mine!

"with lots of fetch quests" - Now you've piqued my interest, i may have to finally give Calico a try :D

Hm, on the screenshots it mostly seems to be the dialogue box in the bottom left. The rest of the GUI seems ok. But I know this might still be difficult when you're sensitive to light. Maybe ask the devs. They might reconsider and change it.

Just saw this one thanks to a giveaway here on SG but I wanted to share it here too for those that missed it. I don't think it has been shared here yet. It looks really nice and cozy.

Swap: first with third, fourth with second. After that, hug whoever you love, pet or human being: you'll feel much better ;)

Thanks, Ellendyl! I am afraid this is a momentary, passing return.
I think I'll be away again for a couple of weeks (or months) and hope to be back again for the big train event in September.
I just stopped by to wish you all a happy Easter :)

It does have some alarming reviews about the daily grind and cash shop though. I'd recommend reading those beforehand for everyone who's interested, just so you know what you're getting into, in case you're prone to fall for stuff like that:

Thats a shame.
Basically, uninstall after the main story.

Aw shame. That looked so cool and relaxing. Guess they can't help themselves.
I'd rather pay for games tbh than having "free" games harass me and FOMO me to death (even though that doesn't work on me but that doesn't stop them from trying)

Only got a Steam page for now, but surely interesting for cozy/farming players: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2016460/Tales_of_The_Shire_A_The_Lord_of_The_Rings_Game/

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

I am sure you'll like this one then... or maybe you'll hate it... not sure. ^^

Just wanted to leave a word about Monorail Stories since it has a "relaxing" tag and there's no "triggering" tag on Steam (I wish there was)
It's not a relaxing game at all. Mostly slow-paced and uneventful yes but relaxing? Nope.
I won't spoil since some of you might still want to play it but let's just say there are circumstances that are outside your control and lead to an extremely stressful and triggering, tense situation toward the end, and depending on your choices, you are pretty much powerless to change it too.
Not to mention several confrontations during the rest of the gameplay that involve physical violence or verbal abuse.
The worst thing is that the devs themselves described the game as "a special story about humanity, friendships, and intertwined destinies"
It's like playing Monster Prom and having a school shooter ending...
Played the game to relax yesterday after a high anxiety day and it only made me feel worse.

Saw spoilers on the Steam forums (don't read unless you want spoilers, but there is a bomb on the monorail event), that's definitely something that would be out of place for a relaxing game. I'm not sure there is an applicable tag for a bad ending/event in a CYOA game, though. Also, I'm not sure if the devs tagged the game that way or people who only played some of the game did. Seems like a lot of people only played for 1-2 endings in their reviews. Either way, sorry to hear.

Also, I'm not sure if the devs tagged the game that way or people who only played some of the game did
I'm not sure either but a full play through is about an hour long so I don't know if there are that many people who would have played only partway through. If they did, they probably abandoned it out of boredom so they wouldn't tag it as relaxing.
I'm not sure there is an applicable tag for a bad ending/event in a CYOA game, though.
And it's a shame because games that appear relaxing and cute but have triggering elements should really come with a warning.
The big issue here for me, especially, is that it's not just one ending, it's the main ending so unless you manage to unlock one of endings that end the game "prematurely", that still leaves you with 5 out of 8 endings that are related to that specific event.
Just looking at the achievement completion, the tragedy ending, which is the worst, is the one that most people will stumble into while playing casually their first time through (it has the highest achievement rate of all the endings), and the people who felt like playing again (not that many), like me, ended up with a "Character X dies" achievement which is not any more fun.
Understandably, the other endings have very low completion rates because who wants to put themselves through that again and again, hoping that one random conversation along the way is the key to actually lucking out into one of the two good endings?
Comment has been collapsed.
I skimmed a few reviews and I saw several mention not beating the game due to boredom and a couple mention they only completed 1-2 endings. Maybe people didn't care enough to beat fully but still wanted to support the dev with a review.
Either way, it is odd.

I think there's also that it's a frustrating experience. You can't really tell what random conversation actually can fix the clusterf*** that is the "naturally" occurring ending so after a couple of playthroughs, you just give up.
Most of the game is literally spent having completely innocuous "conversations" (as in literally exchanging pleasantries in 2-3 lines) with other regular passengers over the course of 8 scenes and "solving" puzzles like "the cat lady's cat ran away, where could she be?" or "my friend has a headache, let's see if someone on the train has aspirin" and there are maybe 6 or 7 people to interact with at the most so there is very little that points to the apparently resulting situation and it makes it hard to replay to change the ending.
Comment has been collapsed.
Sorry about that. There should have been some warning, since it's apparently marketed, as far as I can see, as a slice-of-life relaxing game
Comment has been collapsed.
I think there should be. I get that nobody wants a game spoiled in the description but maybe a tag would be cool.
For sure I wasn't at my best when I played it but I can imagine such a dramatic tension filled situation would feel jarring even to the chillest of casual players.

Good advertising, i already like this game, lol.
Hey to each their own. If you're looking for thrills though you might get very bored by the first 85% of the playthrough though
PS - Why didn`t you just turn it off?
It really just came as a surprise. I was 50 mn into the gameplay when the triggering situation happened out of nowhere and I thought "ok that's very weird, was not expecting it to go that way". Then it was pretty much over in a matter of a couple of minutes and everybody dies so I really felt bludgeoned.
I tried to do another playthrough right away thinking "I'm going to just do everything different and it'll all be ok" but nope, again, tragedy, conflict, violence...
At that point I just gave up entirely.

I loved playing all of the Humongous games so much as a kid. They still make me feel nostalgic. Hope these three games can also do that for someone else :)

Soooo many upcoming games!! And some have demos!
I have a special place in my heart for Monterona because I wish I could build the worlds for my grandma's stories. It has a demo too.
Others I am really looking forward to (for those who don't have the time to go through the whole thing)
Albatroz (Demo) is a gorgeous looking backpacking game based on exploration and trying to unravel a mystery.
ILA: A Frosty Glide (Demo) feels very much like A Short Hike... except with a witch on a skatebroom? Yes please.
On Your Tail (Demo) looks like a chill seaside narrative detective story. Just looking at the screenshots make me feel on vacation.
SOPA - Tale of the Stolen Potato looks just awesome and like the perfect game to tickle your nostalgia oblongata with a childhood adventure, full of magic, creatures... and gliding... and it's set in South America, which I don't remember having seen much in games... (except for the games in the Latin America Showcase I guess?)
Wax Heads (Demo) is a "cozy punk" narrative game about managing a record store. Has a bit of a Coffee Talk feel but in a much more rock and roll setting.
OPUS: Prism Peak, the new OPUS game is absolutely gorgeous and seems heartbreaking. I can tell and they don't even have a demo yet.
Undusted: Letters from the Past (Demo) is a casual game about cleaning and restoring old objects (with a side of narrative obv.) which is sure to satisfy that OCD itch.
Map Map - A Game About Maps, a game about um... maps. I have played many exploration games but never as a cartographer creating the maps. Looks chill and fun.
Less on the cozy side (there is some combat) but I think mostly based on exploration and puzzles, Dungeons of Hinterberg also looks pretty cool and it does have a demo.

Welcome to the Cozy Zone, the corner of SG dedicated to sharing and discussing cozy games. Get yourself a blanket, some hot chocolate or herbal tea, get comfy in your chair and enjoy the good vibes and the good gibs too.
I'm certain most of you are familiar with the concept of "cozy gaming/games" by now, but to avoid any confusion here are some excerpts I stole from articles written by people who are better with words than me, which should give you the idea:
Links: 1 2 3 4
With that out of the way and skipping the whole "in these hard times we all need more cozy time in our lives" preamble (heh), let's get straight to what the Cozy Zone is
supposed to beabout:❣ My giveaways of cozy games. To be honest (at first) I just needed a place for my next gibs, as it so happened that I was in possession of some amount of keys for this particular type of games, but instead of going with just another one-time train I decided to make it an ongoing thread. So
for nowthe plan is to do GAs for this thread with games of the cozy kind on a somewhat regular basis.✽ Your giveaways of cozy games. Everyone is welcome to join me in making GAs for games that fit the theme. No strict guidelines, use your own discretion when deciding if the game is good for this thread. In general, fitting games usually have one or more of these tags on Steam: Relaxing / Family Friendly / Cozy / Wholesome / Cute / Comedy; and here are some tags that these games usually don't include: Violent / Gore / Survival / Psychological Horror / Hentai / Dark / War / Military / Dystopian (these are just some examples of some of the most popular tags). In any case, if a game seems cozy enough to you, feel free to give it away. Just make your GAs private (aka invite-only).
Special Cats tag exception: as a result of the FCDSCGC-2023 event, cats were proclaimed the mascot animal of our thread and thus any game that has a 'Cats' tag on Steam is allowed to be given away here, whether it's cozy or not.
Every active giveaway will be featured in the OP (if I'm around at the time it's running).
☯ General discussion of cozy games. Random cozy games discoveries, thoughts on latest games you've played, discounts alerts and everything else related to games of the cozy kind.
◒ Recommendations for cozy games. Do share your favorite games, well known or not. Hidden gems are especially welcome though, cause many niche games often go largely unnoticed.
✧ Cozy events. So, events have become a semi-regular occurrence in our thread, and I'm looking to make them an integral part of the Cozy Zone experience moving forward. If you want to host an event in the thread which requires some coordination or have an idea for a future event, please contact me on Steam; otherwise, feel free to post your cozy trains, celebratory GAs, puzzles and whatnot at any time. You can also contribute by either partially or fully sponsoring the prize pool and/or by donating cozy games for events (as I might struggle to fully cover these prize/GAs-wise on my own, so some help is always appreciated; again, contact me for this).
If you wish to just bump the thread, feel free to so, but keep in mind that the recommended way to bump is the cozy way, which is achieved by posting:
♦ pics of your adorable pets ♦ pics of your cozy gaming space ♦ pics of anything cozy or cute ♦ light-hearted memes ♦ links to relaxing music (make sure to check out our own cozy playlist ♫ too) ♦
One rule in this thread: good vibes only, so please let's make it comfy for everyone and keep the negativity to the minimum.
