Paradox Interactive sent a mass email out today with a free Steam code for Europa Universalis III. Its an open-ended key and I've already seen a bunch of new gifts here for the game.

Point is that users are getting $30 of Contribution for free. Seems a bit shady, unless moderators allow it.

Thanks

rather make it a game. some people may still want it, and it's not accessible for free to everyone like Metro 2033 was for example. Also every user gets only 1 code, not infinite shtload acquuired via fake accounts.

I would like one, so I'm happy that there are plenty coming.

And if someone gets a "free" 30$ contribution, who cares? It's not a competition anyway.

the difference to metro really is: Only some get it (the first subscribers to the newsletter),its not free on some site to grab for everyone. Its 1 code per user (except someone really got their newsletter more often before they gifted the keys) and therefor it is more compareable to the free gifts you got from steam during their sales. Maybe something in between. Still no way compareable to Metro or Dota

It's not like Metro 2033, where you can just click something and get a free key. And then click it again. And again. :)

Only people who were previously subscribed to the Paradox newsletter were sent keys - so signing up today will get you nothing. But who cares about the dollar value; I already owned this thing, so this is a way we can pass a great game along to someone else, hopefully someone who gets hooked and buys a bunch of other Paradox stuff.

If you're a fan of this sort of game, Crusader Kings II is another great one. It's more polished than Europa Universalis III, and a different style of game, with different ideas of "victory" - but still good Paradox fun.

just checked, Europa Universalis III Chronicles is a * game, so shouldn't give contributor value

I'd say allow them to give it away. It's a one-time thing -- you get one and only one key, you can't milk it for tons of them. So the flood will rapidly subside as everyone gives theirs away.

I never got it, so not everyone is getting one that signed up at the forums. Maybe around 10k max. only 1k or less of those people actually visit this site, and even less will give it away. My guess is no more than 500 will be given here from this event.
