How GamePump works

We partner with video game veterans of today and yesteryear to reclaim lost gaming artifacts.
Which is a really fancy way of saying, we revive classic game libraries from the proverbial basements of some of the top video game publishers in the world and help bring them to modern hardware.

FAQ

Q: WHEN ARE THE GAMES RELEASED?
A: The first Friday of every month starting in January 2017.

Q: WHICH PLATFORMS ARE SUPPORTED?
A: We guarantee all games will be optimized for Windows PC. Some games will also support Mac and Linux.

Q: HOW WILL I DOWNLOAD THE GAMES?
A: Every month, you'll receive an email letting you know the new game has been unlocked. Soon, all subscribers will have user accounts which will automatically unlock their game. By default, you will receive a DRM-Free version of the game, however you can elect to instead receive a Steam key.

Q: WILL MY CREDIT CARD BE CHARGED MORE THAN ONCE?
A: Nope. This is a non-recurring subscription. You pay once and that's it. We don't store your credit card information and will never auto-renew. There is no need to cancel because once your subscription expires, it's done.

Quoting...
Lastly, we're excited to announce that we've been working with GOG.com to ensure that every game that appears in the GAMEPUMP service will be available first on GOG.com as a DRM-FREE version of the game. Subscribers will now have the option to redeem their DRM-FREE GOG.com version of the game by default and will be given the option to forfeit their DRM-FREE copy in exchange for a STEAM key (once available on STEAM).

Thanks will edit the post. ^^

I wrote the topic in advance, before the announcement of January 6th the info was a bit vague.

As long as they don't make a habit of this, I'm okay with the delay, especially with the consolations they've offered.
And thank you for the update!

I feel the same way, but more game is always better.

I was waiting for the first game to drop before posting this topic until I saw the announcement, I wonder why they didn't sent out an email for it. (or I just didn't receive it)

So...we have to wait a couple of weeks extra, but we get two more games? Sweet! :)

Sadly you won't get the two bonus games (1 this month and 1 next month) if you buy it now.
You could just wait until they deliver the game for the first month, just to be sure they won't run away with the money =P

They said they want to keep the $20,- for the whole year as long as possible, so it's unlikely you'll miss it.

  • How long will the discounted 12-month plan last?
Undetermined, we'd love to keep that discount as long as possible.

Shame about the delay, I was starting to wonder about that. Looking forward to Lit though. I only played the demo on Wii.

Wonder how the GOG / Steam choice will be made for users.

From what they mention. I assume there would be a way to select whether you want to receive the GOG key or to decline it. If you decline the GOG key then once the game releases on Steam you'll get the Steam key.

I'm wondering how we pick. Right now, there isn't an account system, they just send emails to my knowledge.

Well they mentioned wanting to create some kind of account system, if I remember correctly. Maybe they'll unveil that closer to the release of the first game. If not maybe they'll handle it similar to their "Refund Request Form" but in the subject you'll mention if you want GOG or Steam.

Wii version of Lit looked interesting.. but it looks like it's going to be a lot closer to the iOS version which looks like crap in comparison. I completely lost interest in it after I saw that.

I have a feeling we will be waiting a long time for Steam keys after the DRM release.

Good old games... hmmm... I think I have every half decent older game either on GOG or Steam already

Edit: Ok, read some more. Seems like a good deal with "new" games and who doesn't like a surprise one a month?

They said it will be game which are never brought to a modern marketplace.

We only publish games that have never been on modern PC marketplaces.

Errrrrr... What do they mean by "forfeit"? You'll lose the GOG, DRM-Free copy if you request a Steam key? Why would they do that if one could backup the GOG DRM-free game and keep it forever even after requesting a Steam key.

Sounded so simple back when they announced this. Now there's a delay and a complicated process of redeeming the game (at least on Steam).

Personally, I think it's more like how Humble dealt with The Legend of Heroes: Trail in the Skies unlock in this month's Humble Monthly. Basically, you are given an option to choose whether you want to receive the DRM-FREE copy or the Steam version. You'll only be given the access of the option that you accept.

EDIT: That is, unless Gamepump decides to make a standalone launcher and implement new policy themselves.

Decided to cancel the service. From what they've been saying it seems like they'll focus more on NES or even older games and I was hoping at least for PS2 era. Also the fact that they didn't even announced when they'll release the Steam version of the games, which seems weird considering they first announced them for Steam. It's nice they are also offering GOG but it shouldn't be the focus.

It always looked more like a NES than a PS2 revival.

Well at first they mostly mentioned that they would be classic games that never released on PC and I subscribed almost at the beginning.

I just cancelled my subscription. 20$ is just too much if they fail to keep up with their own schedule and change the premise that much.

I figured as much. I also noticed that the email they sent regarding the delay had another address on it.

1810 Selby Ave · Los Angeles · California · 90025

Both are Los Angeles area, but neither seem to be an office space.

"This delay could be as short as three weeks (by the end of Jan) or as long as a month (early March), we are working to get it shippable as soon as possible."

Their maths need some work. >_<

I'm not surprised that this got delayed.

Not only is it a launch of a new service, but they also have to time the release of new games with it as well. The advantage was not on their side.

Honestly, I'm not too impressed by the delay and I have the feeling I won't be able to redeem any of these games on Steam for quite some time.

But, all that being said. For $20, I'm still willing to give it a shot.

I would definitely be interested in a "Classic Games / GOG" subscription BUT having such a high price tag which is double the money of a Humble Monthly Bundle (on which I can be sure it's almost new and good Games) it's way too much and with just one Game per month for $5... :(

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Subscribing for one month is indeed a bad deal. But a year subscription is at the moment 20 bucks, which equals to $1.54/1.67 which is a much better deal than $5,-.

But I must admit at this point it's kind of a shot in the dark But you could always wait a couple of months ^^

Kinda glad they got delayed tbh. Tried buying it before leaving on vacation and kept getting error messages. Theor support didn't get back to me in time and my connection has been spotty at best since I left. I wonder if I can talk them into giving me the bonus games as well ...
