What should I buy?
I use Avast, but can not really recomendt it to everyone, since devs use some scam tactics in advertasing their products.

I have AVG, paid version. Before I used Avast, free version. Both were good for my needs. However I don't "kill" my pc, as your wife does. I browse the Internet very little, just SG and couple other pages. So I don't know. For "safe" user I'd recommend both free Avast, and paid AVG. For PC killer though... :D

I use Norton (Internet) Security since was called Norton Antivirus 2003 or something like that... it was a short time in 2009-2011 when I've changed to COMODO because at that time Norton was eating 1/3 of my ram but they released a better version in 2011.. and I'm using it since.
Happy customer ^_^
There are also some good free alternatives if you like.. like comodo, bitdefender, avast or avg.

I normally would say get CIS from Comodo but unfortunately their drivers weren't digitally signed by Microsoft with the Anniversary update which caused issues for a lot of people and they still haven't resolved it. Once that's resolved I'll say Comodo's CIS but till then go for the best paid AV and that's Kaspersky. And of course get malwarebytes antimalware free version so you can scan occasionally to check to see if Kaspersky let something through.
I want to add that Comodo isn't for novices.. so if you don't have some understanding of things relating to security suites you might want to get something else.
Do you need to get Kaspersky? No. You could get Avast, which is really good honestly. Kaspersky is one of the best paid AVs, but honestly there's free security suites and AVs out there that are just as good, some even better tbh.

I've been using AVAST free version on some windows machines for years, it's free and works quite well. Only annoyance is that they try to sell you the paid version on a regular basis, but it's not that terrible. While good pratices are the best protection (and virustotal.com in some circumstances), it's worth installing some AV software if you have a "bad" user at home :-)

I have read recently a test of security suites in a local consumer magazine and Bullguard (67%) won out of all they tested, but I never used it. I myself use Eset (62%) which ended up in shared 3.-5. place as being least resource hungry and I would say it's... decent.

Windows Defender, never had a problem.
Before that, it was Vipre Anti-Virus.

For 2 weeks now I'm getting pop-ups from Panda internet security 2016 telling me my license is going to expire in few weeks. Before I met my wife I never used antivirus but she always ended up killing the computers so I started buying them. I haven't had any problems with panda. I searched the discussions first but newest I could find was commented 7 months ago, maybe there are newer things I missed.
The question is simple is it worth paying for antivirus/security suites or go with the free ones. And which one are you using or do you recommend?
Thanks!
