Thanks to everyone that took part and added to my event, but the competition is not over yet. We still have to decide on who goes home with a gold medal. I picked a champion from each nation that participated, and then looked at their wishlists. The top most wanted game was also a game none of athletes had yet, so the choice was easy. To find out what they are competing for, check the bottom of the post.

Winner: Portugal!

That concludes this years events. Just trying to sort one key out that IG had messed up (if anyone has a spare key for Pixel Arcade that they want to trade for let me know), and waiting for one winner to log back on, but otherwise everything seems to be in order.

Here's the list of our final athletes and their entries that made them able to compete for a gold medal:

Aww i just tried to hop on the train, only to find out that I have been blacklisted. Not sure why though. I haven't circumvented the sgtools check, nor done anything shady.

I've never won anything from you previously, nor did you win anything from me.

Ah well, I guess you can't please everyone.

No matter.

I lost all my notes on blacklist a while back with a browser reset. Main reason I put someone on blacklist is for cheating at a puzzle event or trying to get information from people other than the puzzle creator about puzzles. Or breaking some SG rules. I very rarely blacklist for other reasons.

Never entered any giveaway that required puzzles. Never broken any rules of the site. Never been banned. Never won more than one of the same gift. Never not activated a gift I won. Never been rude or offense here either. Barely post on the forum though I pop by sometimes to read and enter the very rare train (or start one). I do bump those threads I enter.

So none of those apply, so I have no idea why I landed on your blacklist, but hey, you do you. It just puzzled me why I landed on your blacklist, but if you think I belong there, I'm sure I'll live.

Actually, now I remember. You were horribly rude when trying to participate in one of my puzzles.

I'll quote what you wrote: "In short, fuck you for being a smartass."

Oh yeah I actually remember that. I suppose I was dead wrong on me never having been rude. That was the one time. Typical.

You were though. Very, very much a smartass, and you got under my skin with that comment of yours.

I asked for clarification on what was even going on, and I was very civil about it, even referring to my puzzle skills as something like "shit" or so. I never entered a puzzle giveaway before (that I remember) and your post had 0 explanation, and instead of being a normal helpful person, you went with lmgtfy to something that didn't clarify anything. I had never heard of that puzzle game.

Well at least now I know. Mystery solved.

I'm in no way asking to be removed from your blacklist. I fully stand by my remark., because let's face it, you were a dick to me for no reason.

It was a puzzle. I gave you the tool to find the rules of the boardgame. By having the information that you needed to google for codenames for the rules you could figure out how to solve the puzzle. That link gave you everything you needed to know, it's the fact that you didn't understand how to use it that made you unable to progress.

Puzzles comes in a wide variety, and each will be different how the puzzle creator decides on what information to provide and what clues to hand out. It's called a puzzle for a reason, you have to figure some things out for yourself, and I'm a big proponent of those kinds of puzzles.

It's an unwritten rule to always respect a puzzle creator's choice in how they've designed the puzzle. If you're unable to solve it, it simply wasn't meant to be. But you should never be rude because of how they decide to hand information out.

Yeah but then you chose to be a smartass about it by making the link as a letmegooglethatforyou. At least you can be honest about it. If you wanted to help, you could have stated the name of the puzzle and said that was all the help you were prepared to give. Just something as simple as "hey, so the name of the puzzle is "x" and you can google the rules if you're unfamiliar. That'll get you started. Good luck."
Leaving someone with a lmgtfy if another way of flipping someone off and being a smartass.

If you behave like a jerk, expect not everyone just taking it without some push back. Just because we're all "anonymous" here, doesn't mean we should be rude, lest the rudeness come right back.

The name of the game was in the thread title. LMGTFY is honestly more fun than a straight to google term. The design was minimalism. No information, user has to find their own rules. I sometimes do experimental puzzles. This one was based on communication, or lack thereof.

I'm far from anonymous and I'm widely known for my puzzles and different takes on them. I always think a lot about how to provide hints within the theme of the puzzle. This one craved something that would lead the user on the right path without me having to explain it.

You perhaps have a bad experience with LMGTFY. I've always seen it like a lighthearted joke. You seem to think the site is made as an insult.

And I had obviously never heard of the game, so I didn't make the connection, or I wouldn't have said that I didn't get it, and that I was shot at puzzles.

And don't fool yourself, lmgtfy is absolutely used as a sarcastic response akin to telling someone to RTFM.

http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/sites/let-me-google-that-for-you-lmgtfy

edit:
All good though, I've gotten my question as to why it happened answered, and perhaps you will think twice before being a smartass to someone who's clearly lost and asking a simple question. Life goes on.

Indeed it is.

Well, this was literally a case of RTFM. :P I provided information on how to find said manual. As said, different puzzles calls for different methods. You may have been brought up in a different world than me, but where I'm from getting told to RTFM is actually solid advice if the information is in there.
It's better to learn by your own than being told what to do and learning nothing in the process. I've been brought up to think for myself and gather my own information. How and why are more important than what.

Also, you still think it was a dig at you specifically. This was the overall hint for everyone. Hints can be obscure, hidden or as in this case very direct and to the point. Sure, I could have given you a link that looks like this: https://www.google.se/search?q=codenames&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b&gfe_rd=cr&dcr=0&ei=56OKWp30BYmxX52ToKgC
But honestly, what's the fun in that and what does it teach the person getting said link? As shown in the Reddit-discussion up above a lot of the commentators thinks that providing a LMGTFY is a way of telling people that it's not hard to do your own research when there's plenty of information on the subject available. I think this quote sums it up quite well for me: "It's sarcasm, but it isn't hostile, as they are still helping you"

If people don't like my puzzles and how I create them, they aren't forced to take part in them.

You can't help yourself can you? I didn't say you should spell it all out for me, but I was thoroughly lost, and exclaimed to be. You weren't helping, you were being a smartass. It was sarcasm, and served to do nothing else but to sit there and smirk at someone who asked for help, like you couldn't be fucked to spend 10 seconds to be nice to someone on the internet, but instead chose the shittiest way of going about it.

If people don't like my puzzles and how I create them, they aren't forced to take part in them.

Obviously, but I was obviously curious, but helplessly lost. I did not expect to be hit with a shitty reply from the OP, like it's somehow beneath you to deign to help someone who's possibly interested in something you've created even a tiny bit.

And yeah maybe you were raised in a different world than me. I was raised to be nice to people, or at the very least not be rude or a smartass for no reason to strangers, and treat people with a tiny ounce of respect, even if it is on the internet.

I gave you the tools to figure it out on your own. You're clearly easily triggered by LMGTFY. I've never heard of anyone so offended by that site before and I've seen it used quite a lot, especially in programming forums where information is readily available but the OP haven't even bothered to research it.

The value or moral of the site is to let people know they can find the information they want on their own if only they spend a few second looking for it. It's not about being nice or rude. It's about telling people to think for themselves, research things on their own and figure out the problem they are working on. That is something we need more of in today's society.

Is there an adjusted scale with medals per athelete? ;)

I think you misunderstood me, I meant X amount of medals per athlete.

Like the US has 242 athletes, and have won 12 medals, so they've won roughly 0,05 medals per athlete. And Sweden has won 7 medals among their 116 athletes, which means 0,06 medals per athlete. Norway has won 29 medals among their 109 athletes so they have 0,27 medals per athlete (insane).

Yes, I did. Sorry about that.

That's a great ratio for Norway and an impressive total medals count.

Probably a human error by those communicating the results to those that update the pages or by those that do the updating of those pages.
