Trailer focuses too much on the action sequences for sure, but that's what trailers do...
And it doesn't show any sort of dynamic between Robocop & partner - something that was pretty important in the original version.

Don't mind the new design, but they should have kept that metallic silver throughout instead of going to ninja black in a number of scenes - that was a conscious design choice in the original to evoke the image of a knight in shining armor.

Do not like high-tech criminals. Large groups of faceless goons just don't work as well as small gang of individually recognisable crooks.

Can't really judge from a trailer, but in this remake they'll also probably strip out all the social commentary from the original (which actually is still mostly relevant today)

But really, if they did want to reboot, they should have started at Robocop 2, and work from the original Frank Miller scripts without rewriting them too much (Those scripts also form the basis of the 2003–2006 comic book series, which are better than the original movies).

I'm not really a fan, but what's the problem with the screen ?

RoboCop is supposed to be clumsy, silver cyborg, not a Batman with armor.

It looks so generic, they could have called it anything but robocop.

Hollywood should stop with the reboots, remakes and start to make some movies about some game franchises.

Don't really remember what the movies were like but if they were anything like the series ... a reboot can't be worst than that. I liked the movies and the series as a kid but I recently saw a rerun of the series .. and omg I can;t believe I liked something so bad.

ACtually his suit looks close to the orig in the trailer.
Link

Looks like part of the movie he's chrome and part of it he's black.
Trailer looks fine to me honestly.

Honestly, it just seems like most movies coming out of Hollywood are remakes/sequels/comic book movies.

You know what? I'm sorry, but in general, just fuck reboots. They're just slapping an old label on garbage and trying to make money.

What is worse .. This is PG-13 movie... Robocop was my childhood's movie. It was violent ,brutal, dark . I remember that when I watched it for the first time (being a kid) I was even disgusted . There is a lack of brutal , bloody, dark movies these days . It is like making LOBO movie with PG-13....

I read a leaked draft of the screenplay last year, and it was pretty awful, particularly in the third act, which has Robo and Lewis (who is male in the film, and banging Murphy's wife) bombing around in a GTO armed with revolvers. I shit you not. The method of Murphy's death is different in the trailer from the script however, so it's possible the draft I read wasn't the shooting draft. I've been a massive RoboCop fan for almost 25 years, and I'm not fundamentally opposed to remakes (of anything), so the idea of a new Robo film is pretty exciting for me.

i think i remember that the screenplay you are talking about was not recieved well at all and was scrapped in favor of what they are currently using.

It wasn't scrapped entirely, based on what we see in the trailer, but they obviously went with a subsequent draft. Most people assumed that the leaked script was basically the final draft since it was dated Janury 2012, which was shortly before production began. They must have done rewrites mid-filming.

I enjoyed the original RoboCop. But the trailer for the new one looks pretty cool too. I'll hold judgment on it until I see the whole movie for myself (Although no doubt Joel Kinnaman will never take the place of Peter Weller as the best RoboCop actor!)

I don't really condone the whole movie reboot trend myself, but who knows - it just might turn out to be a good movie...

Ya I was a big fan of Robocop in my younger days. I was somewhat worried about the reboot when I first saw a pic many months ago of the suit but after seeing the trailer finally I'm excited to see it. Looks cool and action packed so I'll be watching it.

that might have been terminator 2 for NES which i played A LOT LOT LOT of. one of those games of course no saving since NES, but this game didnt even have codes to put in to get to the same level again. I would always get to the cyberdyne building easily but then it would get harder and i made it to the steel factory 10 or less times but i dont think i ever beat it. If i did it was just once and i quit after that.

It was on SNES, Gameboy, Sega Genesis, and Game Gear. Each was a different game from a different developer.

While I understand they want to retain some of the human elements for the moviegoing audience, the one bare hand and half mask are just silly on something designed for combat.

Anyway, I guess I'll wait for the Alien, Jaws, and Close Encounters reboots - we all know it will eventually happen...

When I discovered Shadowrun, the first thing I tried to do was to make a Robocop-style cyborg viable in Shadowrun. Kind of difficult since Robocop never went up against anything much faster than himself. He's mostly durability and focus in the films, and kind of stiff in all appearances.

After seeing the reboot trailer, I have to say that there's enough of the old Robocop remaining that I'm looking forward to this. Except for that helmet.
